I'll still probably buy GW2 although, I'd love to know if PC and Consoles share servers.

Not sure about that as the mechanics (esp the aiming) has to account for gamepads on the console version.

God, no auto-aiming players in my server! :(

No idea how they'll compensate for AOE abilities on a gamepad though. Auto-aiming AOE just sounds ridiculous.

If they indeed intend to adjust the game for a console, those changes already happened years ago, and we've already seen them in the game in the demos.

Just a reminder, we've know for more than a year that there is a team investigating a console port.

There is not a bit of sense in expecting wild changes or makeovers in the game now just because a NCSoft employee made an ambiguous statement in an investors call.

What exactly do you consider auto-aiming? GW2 has click/tab-targeting for long range, like most other MMOs, short range doesn't require a target at all, and ground-targeted skills can be aimed with an analog stick with little effort.

Have you tried playing a 'tab-targeting' MMO with a gamepad?

Trying to substitute the analog stick with a mouse when it comes to targeted skills just doesn't work for the majority of players.

Also, tab-targeting is not a good way to select a mob. It works when it doesn't really matter what mob you have to kill first (IE trash mobs) but in a situation where you have to 'do stuff' to a particular mob or the group dies; a mouse is quicker.

In all cases, you can force it to work, but it is inferior. If they do share servers, ANET will have to compensate for that.

So far that compenstation has been auto-aiming / assist-aiming.

This thread is out of control. (but it's funny as hell)

I don't mind console for the road, and desktop for the home.  This way I don't have to shell out thousands of dollars for a gaming laptop and can upgrade my rig instead.

I played FFXI on ps2, x360, and PC, and can definently say the console was much more comfy and could play much longer without getting fatiuged.  I did a lot of Ballista which was a PvP minigame and totally kicked ass playing monk with a controller.  Once you had your macros set up correctly with the bumpers etc... for me it was actually faster than keyboard + mouse.  With GW2 being more streamlined, I'm sure the controller will be a viable option.  (I lol at all the PC folks claiming "free kills") how do you know? Maybe it will be you being facerolled by a 'lolconsolecontroller'.

Xi lasted so long (I played for 7~8 years), I am a huge fan of cross-platforms.  There are so many butthurt people in this thread that have thier panties all in a bunch.  - I cannot believed I almost missed this thread

    =)

They are basically exploring the possibility of a console version, they've barley tested it. So chill out, besides it's not like it's using the xbox or w/e as a lead platform.

And if it will happend it will be a long time from now.

Since Guild Wars 2 combat is going to be like Dragon Nest and Rusty Hearts (which both can be played easily with a controller) I can see melee classes having no problems. I think the ranged classes will have some trouble with targetting/tabbing their target though.  Im not worried about the controller scheme, Im just wondering what the graphics are gonna look like.

I dont think a console can handle 100 people on screen.

Think about it.. you go out and adventure in the land - you don't even need to form groups for the most part.  The combat is twitch based so controllers could totally take advantage of that.  Yeah, considering everything I know about the game's design, I could totally see it happening and even working.

    I'll stick to PC though...

How would skill casting work, considering that it utilizes the full [ten] numbers on the keyboard?

    Oh no, not 10 keys...

In FFXI you had like 100 keys and it worked fine across 2 generations of platforms.

Though GW2 seems more fast paced, which doesn't bother me, I would rather it take some skill.

I'll stick to PC i'm sure though. lol
