The question is which console? which console can manage all this.
In my opinion I think the WII U could possibly be the console that can manage GW 2, since WII U has been stated to be released this year and that the control has a touchscreen feature, I could say this could work now again this is from my opinion but looking at this I do think this could work.
We'll have to see
After watching yesterday's episode of TB's Mailbox, I also think that the Wii U and possibly the new Xbox will support a console port of GW2, rather than the current generation of consoles.
“[Console] When it comes to Guild Wars 2 as we have announced already, we are in the preparation stage. For other titles we are looking at various options as we speak. So once again, nothing has been finalized yet for me to make specific comments now.”

Absolutely, but of course we will have to see how this works, I mean I don't mind it for console as long as they do it right and configure the buttons to where you want it.

what am i missing? says there in the prep stage of putting gw2 on consoles. He cant make specific comments cause it's not finalized.

To me it sounds like they just started trying to port it to a console. I'm not sure that means that it is definite it will actually appear on consoles.
I've lost any enthusiasm for this game . I will however with hold final judgement until I see it . Granted Win 8 is planned for release which is meant to , as an operating system , tie together mobile , gaming consoles ( This also probably involves the new X-box due out in the next year or so .) and pc's. To date cross platforming has been a failure , imo. We'll see how this goes, I'm not holding my breath though.
While that does at first strike me as odd, after some thought I could totally see it. If it's well designed for consoles and PC separately, it could actually work.
Think about it.. you go out and adventure in the land - you don't even need to form groups for the most part. The combat is twitch based so controllers could totally take advantage of that. Yeah, considering everything I know about the game's design, I could totally see it happening and even working.
I'll stick to PC though...
How would skill casting work, considering that it utilizes the full [ten] numbers on the keyboard?
with modifiers, holding down the top left or right would modify x or a or whatever.
That would put console players at a second or two of disadvantage compared to keyboard users, but it'd work, I guess.
i always hear the debate of controller and keyboard and mouse. if we were all on the same server i guess we would find out. i kind of think using a controller would be an advantage, i used to play a lot of madden football and the combinations of button you have to press at times can be intense.
Judging by the amount of times I've seen AoE skills targeting the ground in a fluid battle, the reliance on free aim in a highly dynamic environment and the compexity of map terrain (especially in PvP), console jockeys will still be playing catch up with their PC counterparts. I don't really mind consoles and PCs mixing on the same servers though. I play with my friends who only use PCs so the console players' crippled PvE gameplay won't effect me. That and it means I can pad my PvP stats by essentially shooting ducks in a barrel whenever someone with a controller shows up on the opposite team (talk about showing up with a knife to a gunfight).
So long as consoles don't get cheats like auto-aim to make up for their inferior control, I'm all for the mixing of oil and water. More box sales for ANet means more content for me. Although realistically, the two platforms should be kept separate. When you put a Honda Civic into a race against a Ferraris, expect a dejected Honda driver. That's no way to keep people playing and buying further expansions.
LOL funny how poeple change their tune! (99% of mmorpg.com gamers seem to hate the idea of console players invading their beloved mmos....now its coming with GW2 its acceptable!!!!!
HA you lot are a fickle bunch. Wish I could turn back the hands of time when this site wasnt rampant with....well ill stop there dont want to get banned again for experessing my opinion.
I've always wanted a AAA MMO released on consoles so I can lounge on my couch with a controller playing an awesome MMO on my big screen 1080p LED HDTV.
Yes, I know I could just use a controller with my PC and hook my PC up to my TV via HDMI...
But yeah, GW2's forced limit on the number of abilities you have translates well to a controller.

Lol, everyone already has auto-aim, it's just that almost every attack can be dodged. Also, it has been said by someone who played the demo that AoEs can be set to wherever you are standing (under your feet) so where you character is will be where the AoE activates or the usual mouse target thing in most MMOs. So I'm guessing the console guys will just play slightly differently but relatively the same.

If Sonoggi has ever said he doesn't like console games then your "opinion" would be valid but he has never said that so.... yea..
While that does at first strike me as odd, after some thought I could totally see it. If it's well designed for consoles and PC separately, it could actually work.

so basically the UI is going to suck.
that's all I get from multi-platform mmos: the ui is going to suck.
has any mmo ever had an ok ui with cross-platform?
Relax. It is made for PC in the first place= the UI will only suck on consoles.
Actually, the way the UI looks right now it'd probably translate quite well as is. Just replace 1-10 with XYAB, Hold Left Trigger + XYAB and RB LB.
Right trigger = tab, done.
And you still have D pad for inventory / map etc. and control stick clicks for like jump, dodge.
Moving to consoles is a bad thing as the UI needs to be dumbed down to function on a console. Then it becomes a question of is it fair to give console gamers a skinny UI and PC gamers more options. That would unbalance PvP and other areas of the game. In the end it makes the game suffer. If this is true its a sad day for GW2. If you think I am off my rocker go play DCU-Online and see what ya think. Its F2P now.

If they choose not to cross the servers, and instead keep the console gamers to their own version of GW2, this won't be a problem.

They still hate it. The servers will most likely be seperate. This idea doesn't change anything for PC gamers as far as I'm concerned.
Just because some game is multiplatform, doesn't mean it has to have the same UI, unless developers are lazy to adjust it to the platform.
Also if this news are true, i wouldn't expect it to come on ps3/xbox before late 2013.
Its not about lazy its about fair. How can you give one set of gamers more options on their UI that gives advantages in combat, crafting so on and so on and not another that pays the same amount. Now its PC gamers win more because they have a mouse. If you have played any console MMOs that run on PCs as well you would get it. Go download DCU-Online and see if you like the UI. Within 10 levels you will want to quit. This is a sad day if its true. Even if Anet says that they will have 2 UIs in the end they will need to nerf the PC UI for balance sake when people freak out and they will.
This is definitely a kick to the nuts for all the people who thought GW2 was going to be the mesiah that saves the MMO genre.
Not that the "MMO messiah" thing even makes sense but I'll just humor you and ask the question; just because it's coming to consoles as well it's not going to be saviour of the genre? What?

Everybody stay calm and read the following:

I've got the straight edge.
To me it sounds like they just started trying to port it to a console. I'm not sure that means that it is definite it will actually appear on consoles.
I'm thinking they would probably put Voice Commands in the console version, as talked about in this thread
http://www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/thread/341098/Voice-Commands.html
For simplicity's sake, when giving commands to teammates etc.
Why would there be a dfference? Server (probably) doesn't handle the GUI, input devices or graphics, that is what the client is for.

I was just wondering if the servers would be merged with each other or if there would be a separating of the console and PC ones.

Heh, after playing the TERA sneak peek I was asking myself if it is possible to play GW2 with a 360 controller on PC. After these news I think it is.
The news raise other questions though.
