Dont fool yourself GW2 is no indie project with a 30 mill bucket
I would guess about 80-100 million, not every developer is a bunch of inefficient monkeys that needs 3 times the budget for the same quality an average budget mmo need tho

I was only interested is GW2 till I read this. Now I am sold I will be trying this one. Brings me back to my DAoC days and just makes me think this is what Warhammer should have done. This is the roots of what made PvP great in MMOs. ANet this looks like fun. And the 2 week event may even bring balance we have never had before. Guess I will be unsubbing from swtor when this comes out. See what one has better open world PvP. BW has what? 2-3 Months to get Illum and the factions balanced?
"Bizarre news that comes to you from far away, possibly via email or the Internet, could be spreading like wildfire among the people you know and causing a lot of excitement, Taurus. Take care that you don't get too excited, since this is very likely to be misinformation that some rather weird minds have garbled. Consider it interesting, think about it, but don't take it seriously unless reliable sources confirm it. "

LOL nice!
I sit on a man's back, choking him and making him carry me, and yet assure myself and others that I am very sorry for him and wish to ease his lot by all possible means - except by getting off his back.
Probably fun and probably well designed. But in DAoC there are lore reasons to fight and the realms are distinctly different from eachother, which to me make this WvW system look meh. I'm not that familiar with the lore though so perhaps someone could fill me in on exactly why I should go to war against these other worlds?

Thats why The Secret World has the edge over GW2's RvR. Three factions tied into the core of the game fighting over objectives that are volatile 24/7. Guild Wars 2 may have more actiony combat, but TSW's pvp lore is more intriguing imho.

Reading about it all does make it sound exciting, but yeah, in everything I've read, there seems to be a big glaring piece missing. Where's the incentive? How are they going to get all these players to actually participate so that it turns out be as exciting as it sounds?
Sure, there are going to be some people who just love to PvP for PvP's sake, and they'll probably care about the scoreboard, but will there be enough of them to make it all that epic? If the game is balanced to require lots of players, what if only a few consistently show up? Just seems to me that the only way to get a greater majority of participants would require giving players reasons to care. Some might be swayed by lore, but I think most would need something more rewarding than that. Something to strive for.
People keep comparing it to DAOC, but DAOC didn't just have lore driving it. It had realm abilities. To me, that seems like an integral component in what made RvR so successful. How is ANet going to get all these players fighting together, without anything like that?
When I want a single-player story, I'll play a single-player game. When I play an MMO, I want a massively multiplayer world.

AFAIK They do have world bonus' for winning WvWvW. However, they haven't mentioned much as to what these bonuses are, you're right about that. They are in the game, though.

I can guarantee you right now that more people will play WvW for the gameplay and fun of it than any lore that ArenaNet might make up.
Where's the deep lore in TF2? Counter Strike? CoD multiplayer?
At the end of the day the mechanics of the game are going to be the determining factor in whether or not people do WvW and there will be server, character and guild bonuses for doing well as was described in the blog post.

TF2, CS, and CoD are all shooters. I'm not sure RPG mechanics will get the same sort of mass enthusiasm out of players, without enough of a reward system.

I have not been a fan of gW2 or GW1 but this article may make me change my mind. I loved DAOC and I love this idea of servers fighting over keeps and castles. It sounds quite amazing.

I imagine they have plenty of funding from NCSoft. And Free to Play is a bit of a misnomer in this case.
Anyway, it all sounds fantastic, hopefully it plays that way too.
STRONG NPC GUARDS?!?!?! has this concept ever worked, Aion plus another faction is just that. Aion plus another faction.

Really?
If this sounds boring to you, there is no reason left for you to play MMO's.
Best MMO experiences : EQ(PvE), DAoC(PvP), WoW(total package) LOTRO (worldfeel) GW2 (Artstyle and animations and worlddesign) SWTOR (Story immersion) TSW (story) ESO (character advancement)

This report is too good to be true. Seriously.

The only reward must be FUN !
Have fun to play, have fun to take a keep, to win a 2 weeks match.
All others rewards are just fun's palliatifs and players seems to forget thats ....
With me being a PVP dabbler this description makes PVP finally seem appealing. I definately will be travelling into the mists.

While it seems it would be fun for awhile, there's nothing here that's very innovating.
I played RvR on WAR because heck, I enjoyed it
Rewards were bonuses
People tend to play things they like
Alas Arena Net could always introduce Hats

I never seen resources being implemented this way on a PvP scenario (other than those 2 kurzick/luxon scenarios on GW1)

It really is funny to watch the rabid fanboys jump over everything anyone says that has a slight inclination of being unthrilled about GW2.
Just like any iother MMORPG fan.....
