I thought Mists were PVP exclusive, then why are there NPC? And convince me why it will not be similar to SWTOR's Ilum played out. What I mean is mad lag and republic just sitting in their base and nip-picking one-at-a-time.
b/c they copy from Daoc thats how it is with npc help defend keeps and enemy can get wiped while taking on the keep lord. This prevent stealthers or classes that can climb wall just go in and capture the keep by themselves.
Assuming they don't screw it up by making seperate pvp gear then yes, if they do its just another wow or swtor. IMO everyone should have to raid for their gear whether its for pve or pvp. It worked fine in dark age of camelot, and it actually got alot of pve only people to try pvp, where as wow/swtors take on it with special pvp gear tended to make them stay away from it.
Gear is really all cosmetic and there is no raiding in GW2... so...
It's more about player skill and coordination/team work.
No farming for l337 gear to pwn noobs.
And auto bolstering so high levels won't just one shot everyone else.

Maybe you should look at how GW1 did GvGs... NPCs in that one too.
NPCs helping to defend and 3 different teams instead of 2 factions.
Youtube GW2 farewell party...lot much lag there.
as for why nobody will just sit in their base and not come out...3 servers, point system, supplies, siege units...all of these make that sort of laziness difficult.
I used to TL;DR, but then I took a bullet point to the footnote.

But bolstering doesn't help that much especially for a skill based game like GW2.. if high levels say lvl 80 have access to better skills compared to low lvl say 10 bolstered to lvl 80.

If you're mostly thinking about 1v1, maybe, but in larger scale PvP, it can mean being able to contribute to a battle, rather than feeling completely left out.
When I want a single-player story, I'll play a single-player game. When I play an MMO, I want a massively multiplayer world.
Bigdaddyx that's because it's not made for Structured pvp it's like open world and what not. Not only does it requir skill but also thinking making wise choices you can still impact at any level in WvW. It's stated in the article itself.

Anyone feeling an alterac valley vibe? (as in how epic it felt when it came out). i dont mean how horribly it failed as a BG. but the thought of it originally!!

GW2 was going to change PC gaming and then it took an arrow in the knee and announced it was going to be ported to consoles.
No, the announced that they have a group looking into the possibility of expanding to the console market, but that will have no effect on the PC side of things what-so-ever.
Agreed, my most fondest memories were those Vanila AV's, my longest one was 19 hours straight (fortunatelly it started on a friday night, and next day was saturday), four times each side pushed to the doors of the other four times each side pushed back relentelss fighting non stop. Finally the side I was playing for carried the day, it was one of the rarest feelings of achievement.
GW2 will be awesome!
Cheers!

Honestly, I write here a lot about DAOC and the glory days of RvR combat.
Guild Wars 2 is taking World vs World PvP VERY SERIOUSLY!
I am so excited about this aspect of the game. MMOs have needed a system like this for a long time. Sadly WoW turned the industry away from it for so long.
I cannot wait to play this part of Guild Wars 2!!
I agree with this entire statement 100%
3 Faction weather its Server Vs. Server Vs. Server or as The Secret World and Dark Age of Camelot are doing/did 3 Factions is how you organically balance PvP. WAR WoW SWToR and several other games with afterthought PvP show how 2 faction World PvP is garbage.
You are a part of the many others, just that TB and Curse were the most recent ones I heard about being invited to the press beta. So they were on my mind as I typed. If you want, you could just mod edit your way into my post. I'm sure no one would notice. ;-)
I have some concerns over the NPCs. I saw this in Warhammer. The Keep Lord fights were so tough - it was so hard to take a keep, that factions just avoided PvPing each other in order to capture the keeps.
It depreciated into a PvE fest where everyone would just skip fighting, and run around in ciricles attacking the Keeps. No one really fought each other because doing so meant a stalemate. Better off just attacking the NPC's to get the rewards.
I'm not seeing how this is going to be any different aside from having 3 factions.
I think their fail safe is the fact that even if all 3 servers decided to alliance themselves against the middle keep, and to destroy the keep lord, someone still have to take over the keep or no one can get the server keep points. And since you can't decide who you are fighting against you can never really rally together the enemy servers together to coordinate it. Even if you happen to do it with one server, the other server will still wreck your supply lines, and take all the towers and still come out as winner. Since you spend so much time on the keep without ever capturing it.
And if you want to capture it, the server you just teamed up will probably hate you and will take it back from you, and that results in PVP.
This is all the results of having 3 servers, makes it hard for players to coordinate with other servers and have a stalemate.
The keep isn't the win all objective, as long as you cut their supply routes, they can't fortify their newly acquired keep, and they will eventually fall to another server. Unless they are extremely coordinated, but with ranking, they will be matched with other well coordinated Servers so it will always be fun.
Life is a Maze, so make sure you bring your GPS incase you get lost in it.
I'm generally not into PvP, but this really does sound like a dream come true.
Although after reading the full blog post it occurs to me that 'oceanic servers' (I'm assuming we'll just be on US servers as usual) will have a big advantage (24 hour population) compared to other servers. I guess this doesn't really bother me (as it works to my advantage) but anyone know if they've commented on oceanic servers at all?

Not sure about oceanic servers. I have a feeling that they will have dedicated servers for different parts of the world. Like in GW1 they have dedicated channels for different locations.
I think that the server matching system will take care of any advantages or disadvantages any server has over another. So if oceanic servers are always winning because they can field more people at any given time of day or night, they'll just get paired up with other servers that always win.

Now think of it on a map the size of Azeroth.

Oderint, dum metuant.
Original Alterac Valley was awesome.
Single matches lasting hours... hours!
Players would hop in and out at will.
Big offensives broken by stalwart defense, counter offensives crushed...
Slow, measured progress to summon massive creatures to help turn the tide....
That was the way a battleground was SUPPOSED to be played.
But what happened?
"It takes too long! QQ WHAAA" and it instead became a 10 minute PvE zerg fest.
WvWvW sounds like original Alterac Valley, on a map the size of Azeroth, and for two weeks without end.
B E A UTIFUL

Lolipops !
This whole game is a dream come true !
If Anet manages to deliver with GW2, it's looking to be a real game changer for the MMO industry.
I'm trying so hard not to get hyped but it's not working...
I just cummed my pants, NO SERIOUSLY I JUST CUMMED MY PANTS!
