No other mmorpgs will have faction pride like WoW has had.

SWTOR Empire Vs Republic does not have the same feel nor the epicness that Vaniella WoW had with Horde vs Alliance, people loved their sides, people loved being alliance or horde, people loved horde because they were misunderstood, ugly, and outcast, people loved alliance because they were beautiful, and just as misunderstood as the horde.

When the alliance and Horde would clash in azeroth such as TM vs SS or Astrannar vs Xroads, people came from all over as soon as they heard the bell ring that their town was attacked and not just level 60s but every one from level 10 to 60 all joined an all out war to either advance or push back.

I remember one memorable moment when alliance had attacked the horde town in astrannar, I was all the way in STV, grinding on raptors, when I saw a huge fleet of horde all levels riding across the bridge ready to back up the small horde force taking on an even larger force of alliance.  Just watching them in aw not even having a mount yet, I went into wolf form and followed the band of horde seeing an all out war in astrannar between alliance and horde.

Just seeing the horde numbers being small holding their own in astrannar until a larger force of horde arrived was such an epic moment and made me proud of being in the horde. Such a nerd moment but I could never feel these epic moments in another mmorpg today, not even in WoWs current state.

Going back, Original WoW was truly the best mmorpg ever. Its sad to see what WoW has become and what every mmorpg after has become. Theres no pride or epic moments in mmorpgs any more :(

I played DAOC and while it was great, still wasnt on the same level as WoW. In terms of World PVP. Battleground PVP is amaizng in DAOC

"will have" is future tense. DAoC is in the past (yes its still running, but no its not really current).

I caught a little of this when I started wow during BC. Vanilla must have been fun.  Now everyone has alts on both sides. Not having faction loyalty takes a lot away from the potential fullness of the enjoyment you can get from a game, in my opinion.

hmm, wish I would have played the same game as you OP.

I never felt that way when I played. It just felt like a game to be honest.

There are no official factions in Eve so I dont think you can use it.  It does have a lot of corporation pride, but thats not what we are talking about.

I've had a lot more pride in WAR. Especially since after a point I recognised many faces on the battlefield (allies or enemies). I can only imagine what I missed with DaoC going by this site.

Pre-NGE SWG. Was the best to me. Raiding player cities and blowing up there bases to just random running into around the galaxy.

"Has had" and Original WoW are the key words. DAoC might not be current but Vanilla WoW is by default non-existant. So why not use DAoC?

Alliances and Corps are basically factions. Just because its not dev forced factions doesn't mean its not the same.

WoW could never hold a candle to the faction pride Daoc had.when I wish for a game with multiple factions and realm pride I'd be using Daoc as the benchmark, not Wow...not by a long shot.
  • KhaerosKhaeros Member Posts: 452

There definitely was a lot of pride in vanilla.  On pvp servers you couldn't roll the opposite faction without deleting your characters (like WAR did, I think), so you really were stuck unless you were willing to do it over again.  No faction transfers either.  You got to know the guilds and the specific players, which made for some cool rivalries both in the world and later in the BGs.

Cross-realm BGs were a sad thing but for some servers (including mine) they were a necessity.  I still think WoW should have tried WAR's way of giving a bonus to the less popular faction first, but it's in the past now.  When I played during the newer expansions, I made sure to hold world pvp events using my server forums and my connections in-game to substitute for the lack of same-server BGs and world pvp, and most of the players who attended my events appreciated it.

As far as faction pride, did you ever play Dark Age of Camelot back in the day?

That Guild Wars 2 login screen knocked up my wife. Must be the second coming!

^ This.  You have no idea what faction pride is unless you played DAOC during its peak.

Because he is essentially saying that no game that comes out in the future will have faction pride like WoW.  DAoC came out before WoW did so that doesnt really apply to games that come out after WoW.

i dont know about the server you were on but the server i played on i saw very few players that had pride in the faction they chose. most of the time all i saw was "QQ The Horde is killing the Quest NPC's" or "QQ Blizzard loves the Horde more than the Alliance" or my personal favorite "QQ Why does the Horde always when WinterSpring and Tol Barad".

"Possibly we humans can exist without actually having to fight. But many of us have chosen to fight. For what reason? To protect something? Protect what? Ourselves? The future? If we kill people to protect ourselves and this future, then what sort of future is it, and what will we have become? There is no future for those who have died. And what of those who did the killing? Is happiness to be found in a future that is grasped with blood stained hands? Is that the truth?"

I am about to be a condescending prick because WoW clone type threads piss me off. Why? Because WoW is a clone. WoW as far as interface and character rendering and all that go is basically a DAOC clone with some EQ1 thrown in. WoW didn't really invent anything, EVERYTHING that is in WoW was in Asheron's call, EQ1, or DAOC before it. The problem here is that some of ya'll are young and don't remember these games and think WoW was the originator and bestest ever. The fact is not only is WoW a clone, it doesn't do PVP as well as daoc(not even close) it doesn't do pve as good as EQ1, and its graphics are reminiscent of a saturday morning children's cartoon, and I am not talking about anything as cool as pinkie and the brain here.

And the sense of community, pvp and otherwise was better on EQ and DAOC, but hey keep riding that WoW train, you may even convince yourself panderans don't suck.

EQ1 had better PvE? Better Faction Pride? I dont know what your taking to think that but can I have some of it? I played EQ1 for 3 expansions all I saw was snobs who had their nose so far up in the air they might as well be sniffing the ionosphere. 90% of the players in EQ1 defined what it meant to be narcissistic snobs. And dont get me started on the boredom known as DAoC. Also if you read the OP's post you would see that this thread has NOTHING to do on what is or isnot a "WoW Clone" it has to deal with faction pride. please learn 2 read before you make a post. and the only game i have seen with the best faction pride was Lineage 2 during the Seven Signs Event. Closely followed by SWG Pre-CU(this also means Pre-NGE).

You didn't even play daoc if you think pvp in WoW was even close to it and faction pride in wow died the moment they made it where you could make the opposing faction characters on the same server. Wow is mmos broken down to the lowest common denominator and that's why it is so popular. Its an ok game that was too easy to start with and has gotten worse with each expansion.

    DAoC, no contest.

Silly enough, despite not being big on the game and factions being more like 'countries' we actually live in, I had to say it was nice seeing the little competition between countries in guild wars. I know, retro back on something from a while back I barely ever got into, but thats the closest to pride I ever felt.
