SWTOR Empire Vs Republic does not have the same feel nor the epicness that Vaniella WoW had with Horde vs Alliance, people loved their sides, people loved being alliance or horde, people loved horde because they were misunderstood, ugly, and outcast, people loved alliance because they were beautiful, and just as misunderstood as the horde.
When the alliance and Horde would clash in azeroth such as TM vs SS or Astrannar vs Xroads, people came from all over as soon as they heard the bell ring that their town was attacked and not just level 60s but every one from level 10 to 60 all joined an all out war to either advance or push back.
I remember one memorable moment when alliance had attacked the horde town in astrannar, I was all the way in STV, grinding on raptors, when I saw a huge fleet of horde all levels riding across the bridge ready to back up the small horde force taking on an even larger force of alliance. Just watching them in aw not even having a mount yet, I went into wolf form and followed the band of horde seeing an all out war in astrannar between alliance and horde.
Just seeing the horde numbers being small holding their own in astrannar until a larger force of horde arrived was such an epic moment and made me proud of being in the horde. Such a nerd moment but I could never feel these epic moments in another mmorpg today, not even in WoWs current state.
Going back, Original WoW was truly the best mmorpg ever. Its sad to see what WoW has become and what every mmorpg after has become. Theres no pride or epic moments in mmorpgs any more
One more person thinking they speak for the entire population of a game. Seriously?
I'm glad you enjoy that part of the game, but it's not for me.
I found the faction element of WoW to be okay at first, but not something I was interested in, and it has become downright ridiculous over the years, for me. There has been too much content in which the factions pull together to defeat a common enemy, only to continue to war with each other essentially for the sake of PvP.
WoW's faction system is actually one of the reasons I may entirely quit playing the game. It's on the list of "minuses" that I will think about after I'm done taking my break, and deciding whether or not to go back to playing it.
Have played: Everquest, Asheron's Call, Horizons, Everquest2, World of Warcraft, Lord of the Rings Online, Warhammer, Age of Conan, Darkfall
My point is you narrowed it down to 2 games without taking into account games you havent played.
We didn't narrow it down. The OP made a claim, we supplied a game that refuted his claim. I'm sure there are other MMOs I didn't play, like Planetside or FoM that had amazing realm pride. It only further supports the argument against the OP.
But, DAoC is probably the most well known PvP game in the MMO sphere.
I think we'll be seeing server pride unlike what games in the past have shown (possibly DAOC, never played it, anyone?). The game is made so your whole server works together instead of being divided amongst itself.
I really, really dont get whats the point of forcing players into two groups and then let them battle against each other in something as artificial as a battleground.
Why cant they form their own factions ?
Just give them something worthwhile to hold and fight over, like Lineage 2 castles, and allow them to form alliances.

As much as find that interesting i don't see how server pride can be same as a faction pride?
Best PVP game is a game built only for PVP and military winnings mean something... andnotgear dependent, rather player skill should matter. PS had that.
As someone else wrote... best faction pride.... PS is up there too. Nothing like gettng a world wide message saying that a certain area needed reinforcement or an attack would start in 30 minutes and players would start marshalling at the rally points given just so we could coordinate timing...
how many game have ppl waking up 4am in the morning for relic raid? lol.
Sleep is for the weak. I waited til 4AM in WF to launch my cross galatic armada and spent 36 hours in a row conquering 1/5 of all the planets of my enemies.

Server pride in GW2 won't exist at all, because of free server transfers.
If you wanted to really see what faction pride was then DAoC was it. Title should have been " No other mmorpgs will have faction pride like DAOC had".
Now that would have been accurate. I played WoW for several years. There is no faction pride, simple two sides. In that game there is no reason to have faction pride simply because nothing you do in game effects your faction.
Unless something has very much changed in WoW. I will admit I do not follow WOW much.

On the surface that sounds true, but think about it... you'll use the transfers mainly to get with people you want to play with. Others may have a little wanderlust, but they'll settle down somewhere. Once people get comfortable with a group of others, they tend to stay put. That's when they all begin to relate to each other and when that sense of server pride will develop. The way WvW promotes guilds and people working together will reinforce that.

Good to be a optimist but all that sounds too good to be true... everyone settling down at one server in perfect harmony and helping each other out for server pride.... unless GW2 community is going to be players from some other planet i just don't see it happening.
Tauren are the master race. The other horde races are slightly acceptable. The alliance races can be my foot stools. I've actually never leveled an alliance to 30. Have a few 85 horde, Everything that can be a tauren, is a tauren.

Wow was your first mmo obvi..Dark age of Camelot had the best faction communities ever u were blacklisted if u were found being a traitor people took alot of pride in factions they played. Wow has no faction pride imo everyone plays everything ask most people and they have alts on both faction this was unheard of in Dark age of camelot unless it was a spy account I played hibs for 4 years and never tried any other faction.
Back when I played WoW shortly after release there was no faction pride at all. Neither side cared about what the other was doing. The typical response to the messages, "Ashenvalle is under attack" was "let them have it".
I never played DAoC so I can't comment on it.
In Eve, players have a tremendous amount of pride in their coorporation and alliance. My guess is because losing has consequences (sometimes very harsh) and players are forced to work as a team to survive.

Meh.
What I experienced in Lineage 2 and what I see in WoW just cannot be compared at all.
WoW forces you to choose either one subset of races or the other.
L2 allows you to play whatever you want. But it gives you really important ressources to fight over with other groups of players.
In WoW, the players you saw where all of your side.
In L2, you really knew your fellow players and you all had to struggle together to comquer a castle and to keep it.
Did you see the blog for GW2 world vs world PvP? This one here: http://www.arena.net/blog/mike-ferguson-on-guild-wars-2-world-vs-world

Oderint, dum metuant.
Come on people, Asheron's Call.

My thoughts as well.

I set my alarm and then slept through it... heh...
But I did do the 3-day long Plane of sky raid... once (I think it was plane of sky but memory fades).

LOL @ WoW faction pride. I find that very funny.

Maybe people will have panda pride here soon tho.
There's no 'faction pride' in WoW.
There's one side acting like 14 year old boys going through hyperaggressive puberty, and one side who whines constantly about anything and everything.
Neither shows any pride whatsoever.

Ohhh boy, looks like it's finally happened.
We've gotten to the point where WoW has become "the good old days" .
Are you team Azeroth, team Tyria, or team Jacob?
