I read some bad news...

YamotaYamota Member UncommonPosts: 6,593

I read on another MMO news site that GW 2 will support consoles... for me that is definetely bad news because we all know what happened when games like DCU also targetted consoles. It lead to dumbed down and crappy controls catered for those stupid console controllers rather than mouse and keyboard.

More over, consoles are targetted at a younger or atleast different audience than PC players which could lead to more action centered instant graficiation type of play and less depth and complexity.

Its been posted and confirmed here that it will be on consoles. But I highly doubt it will be here with launch. We have not even heard about this until just recently, and it isnt easy to port a game this big over to console. Not only that but the PC ui we see now is what we are going to get.

I wouldn't worry too much about this right now.

The biggest question I have is 'will console and pc share the same servers?'

With the amount of ground targetting abilities I've seen in GW1, I can't see how they can make it work on a gamepad without 'assistance'. And 'Assistance' normally means auto-aim or assist aim.

Auto-aiming AOE is just ridiculous but without it, how will console players compete?

Just opens up a slew of questions but I will still buy GW2, ANet has served me well so far. GW1 + 3 exp. :)

Theres been a few MMO's out recently that have stated they will be ported over to consoles but it nevr happened so quite frankly im not worried about it

If someone is talking in general chat in a language you dont understand, chances are they're not talking to you. So chill out and stop bitching about it!

Age of Conan was also gonna be on consoles :D But we all see how that went.

I dont mind if a game gets ported to consoles aslong as it gets ported FROM PC and not the other way around, like DCUO, great game imo, but the UI is horrible cause it's made for PS3.

If the game is designed for PC from start, like GW2 obviously is and they keep the consoles player apart from the PC players i don't see how that is "bad news"  It should be considerd fairly good news at it most likley means alot more income so they can spend more money on patches / expansion packs.

Same exact thing can be said about Champions Online.

It's very possible that GW2 on consoles is nothing more than a pipe dream at the moment, and wont ever come to fruition.

When I heard about that it kinda threw me for a loop as well. Did some digging and it isnt as bad as feared. Too late and too lazy to look up and post links, but the basics is that they told investers that they have a small team working on it to see if it was possible. I know there is another thread just like this about it with more yelling and stuff.

concole and pc games should be separated, i know its all business and everyone needs to maximise their winnings.

i dont mind if they make console port later but if you do same version for both platforms im not gona even buy it.

it also happen to skyrim you can see the whole consoleness all thru the setting menus via game and you needed to enchant your pc version by user customized mods wich is sad and lame.

i know yeayea we all gamers but there is difference between console gamers and pc gamers period.

I'm pretty sure pc servers & console servers can't be shared. I don't know of any game that is pc & console that share the same servers.

The only important thing is that it wasn't designed for consoles from scratch

GW I was also anounced for consoles at some point btw

This generation of consoles support mouse and keyboard.

i say no need to worry about console. PC is the lead platform ArenaNet is dedicating all their heart and soul into.

I doubt GW will ever appear on console. Consoles are just not suitable for mmo gaming.

Never been confirmed, people are so easy to manipulate. Someone, somewhere has talked about this and BOOM its comfirmed...

Anets reply on this subject is that:

    • The game is primarily designed and built for PC
    • They have a small team looking in to a console version

So no need to worry about a console to PC port, it's the other way around.

well its not about mouse and keyboard ffs. do not mix console and pc simple.

The console version won't be released together with the PC version. The interface for the PC is already nicely simplified when you compare it to most other games with toolbars all over the place. When a condition procs the action button will automatically change to the follow-up skill. This way the peopIe with programmable keyboards won't have that much advantage, and console players shouldn't be at a disadvantage. I doubt the PC version will be affected to accomodate consoles.

What is it then? Open my eyes! Which one is the super complicated mechanic that cant run on console?

Afraid of change. People don't even understand what they are afraid of most of the time.

unlike Blizz who completely changed the D3 title, Anet has stated they will be converting the title to console without converting the pc controls to console controls only. So, it won't affect pc players on GW2 so it's not bad news, they are likely to release the pc version first and then the console one instead of delaying and instead of changing the game drastically.

    FFXI.

PC players had a huge advantage in that game but there wasn't any real pvp.

Only course it comes out for consoles does not necessarily mean it will be played with a gamepad tho maybe you will need a mouse and keyboard to play the game on consoles i admit its unlikely but we cant know yet so its as much a possibility as the gamepad.

Even if it comes with a gamepad control i fail to see the problem in it.

In fact i believe the gameplay of GW2 (at least what i saw of it) is well suited for gamepad controls and i for one would like a gamepad control for the pc version very much

To FFXI i played it on all 4 platforms and i found the gamepad controls vast superior to the mouse keyboard control its all only a matter of getting used to in my opinion.

The difference being XI was designed for consoles and ported to PC with all it's limitations.  PS2 limitations was a huge hurdle that XI never overcame.

Like a previous poster stated, as long as it's built for PC and then ported, i have no issue.

Precisely. The decimation process always comes with the designed-to-support-consoles phase.

But please, ArenaNet, don't dumb it down :-(

I am very condfident that GW2 is created for the PC, and may be ported to a console.

So we shoulnt even notice it.

Iam sure Arenanet aint going to put their triple A flagship into the clips.

Would be diffrent if it was created on a console and then ported to a PC.

Totally agree man. Not to tell the advantage to never think about specs or whatever chat client. It can definetly be playable to his maximum even in a console and i hope to get the controller support for pc anyway.
