Thats not entirely true.... MMO games are big money and currently the only games on the platform that do really well (financially)

The consoles can only be manufactered that cheep because of all the innovations comming from the Game PC world, if you kill PC gaming, there will be no hardware innovation left.

If you include the hardware, PC gaming is still bigger then console gaming on a yearly budget.  Its very important to keep the PC gaming alive... and certain gametypes like FPS and MMO still play a lot better on my PC then on those stupid Playstation controllers.

But, yes, its time for everyone to realise that software piracy is killing the gaming PC market and everything that comes with it... but soon thats over, as all PC games will have an online requirement AND CONSIST OF ONLINE PLAY

I am not talking just in terms of MMOS (WOW is an exception for online gaming on PC not a norm) but overall console sales and amount of players who prefer consoles over PC for gaming is like a me standing in front of Eifiel tower.

There is not evena contest here. Look i am a PC gamer first but i am not going to close my eyes to obvious truth that consoles  dominate the gaming genre.

This man speaks the truth. PC gaming is dying rapidly. Anet and NCsoft wants to make some money and theres nothing wrong with that. They are a business and as much as people likes to pretend that any company is catering to fan first and them second is way too naive. And before you start going WoW lol just think about it Call of Duty:MW3 alone has more players. And that's just one game.

Currently Playing: SSFIV AE, SFxTekken, SWTOR, WoW. Waiting for: GW2, Resident Evil 6.

Yeah where's your documented proof pc gaming is dying? Last i checked Microsoft would have bent over backwards to keep it going so they can keep the DirectX monopoly going. Not to mention everyone gets a pc first and not everyone has a console. I haven't bought a console in years since super nintendo. :P

EA saw a 110% growth in PC revenue year on year. ToR was a boon for that, but even taking that out PC has growth twice as both consoles combined. Steam doubled in revenue again to ~$4bn a year. Not to mention all the non-AAA developers are abandoning consoles and are realising that because of the vastly more powerful PC hardware, making a AAA-looking game on PC is pretty easy. Hell, Dear Esther kicks the teeth out of uncharted visually and that's a £7 game that cost $55k to make.

It's a wet dream of console fans (who HATE, absolute HATE the fact that PC is so vastly superior from a tech perspective) to think PC gaming will 'die'. It's a much bigger platform than console. League of legends has as many accounts as xbox live does.

People have been predicting the death of PC gaming for over a decade now. I'll believe it when Year of the Linux Desktop happens.

They've been saying it since 1984.

    They've always been wrong.

I don't see how a platform which generates as much money as the 360 for EA is a 'dying platform'. In fact, the dying platforms are console if developers are to be believed, a LOT have been speaking out against consoles recently. Many, many developers.

The fact that a dying platform is growing is also a completely oxymoronic statement. The dying platforms are currently the Wii and PS2, with the two main consoles seeing substaintial growth retardation. The most alive platform is the PC. It's undergoing a boom period, has been for 2 years. Just because some retard in a suit isn't shoving in in your face every other month doesn't mean it's not happening.

Oh wow, people still do console gaming?

I have not played a console game in over 10 years. The PC market is doing way to well to bother with a stale console. Who wants to play on something you cant beef up or mod or hell, even build from the ground up yourself while controllin every little detail of the build? PC gaming is alive and doing very well my misinformed lil troll friend. You might wanna do some research on things like GAMES for pc, or even alien ware, or amd, or intel, or amd graphics, or websites like xoxide, or razer, or, well, i could go on and on, but I am busy playing ROI and FE...................on my PC................that i built every scratch of....................myself.

I too have not used a console in over 10 year, but the market is still booming. I think the main audience for consoles is mainly kids and stoners.

Or maybe people with better uses for their money.

I know several people who like games but think it's a waste to upgrade their pc to keep up with games. They would much rather spend a small amount for a console and just enjoy the games that they play.

You may have a point about the kids n stoners. I stopped console gaming when, after driving straight from missouri to virginia with my wife, my console was stolen out of our vehicle. We were tired, so we got a hotel n brought just our hygien stuff in, i went out to the car the next morning to get my wife a bag and found my car window smashed and the console gone along with 3 controllers and 23 games. All the other things in the car and they took only the concole................probably a stoner kid imho.

    Hey now!

I'm a stoner, and I havent touch a console in 14 years, actually I just gave away all my old consoles with tons of games, my son and I used to play all the time.... Ahh good times!

But I agree, why would anyone choose console over PC, when you can have so much more control and depth?

Keep in mind. I have an extremely good system. You are preachign to the choir.

But some people would rather put their money into a family vacation, their kid's college fund, going out with friends, etc.

I spent $500+ for a video card. the average person would probably scoff at that.

I would like to add, that currently PC gaming is going through some growing pains. There can be no doubt the PC is much stronger when it comes to giving players control of the game they are playing, much more depth than a console can provide with the limited controls.

You can see it with all the F2P games of late, but that is starting to change too, because the players are changing. Eventually the devs and the players will come together, like in the old days.

Then we will see stronger numbers for the PC, probably over the next year or 2, we have several AAA MMO's comming out. Even the free game sites, like POGO and Armor games, are very hot, there is still a huge untapped market out there.

Arena-net saying the game will be on console aswell is a good way to gain more exposure for the game.

Playing a FPS with a controller is like driving a car with your asshole. It's uncomfortable, inaccurate and awkward.

They better not bring GW2 to consoles. It just takes away development resources from the real game. Let the kids on consoles play Call of Duty. Yes, I am a PC elitest. I hate consoles they try and ruin everything for PC gaming.

Was thinking the same thing. I didn't realize that all console players were 13 years old...I guess we learn something new, everyday here, huh? I bet wine drinkers think this way about beer drinkers. /facepalm

More over, consoles are targetted at a younger or atleast different audience than PC players which could lead to more action centered instant graficiation type of play and less depth and complexity.

    invalid example.

DCUO was a WoW clone that tried to cater to consoles to begin with.

GW2 is not a WoW clone, and they are merely looking into it.

also whats the beef? we already know how the hotbars work, there nothing we know of that can't be mapped to a controller so they wouldn't need to change how the game plays (including hotbars)(much). and consoles are marketed at the same age groups as PC, ("younger or at least different"? hello, who are you on about? NINTENDO? because the xbox is rather ironically mostly 15+ games. and you know that WoW thing we mentioned. the thing that IS only PC? yeah thats marketed at 12 YEARS OLDS)

I have nothing left to say to you sir, for you are an imbecile.

  • XthosXthos Member UncommonPosts: 2,740

Yeah, they said they would like to look at putting it on a console...But it is not designed for one...So it will need to be moded to go on one, not the other way around...So I don't see it as a big deal.

Thank you. People are going apeshit with all this game X on pc + console = automatic failure. They act like it's written in blood and stone...that it WILL happen, no matter what. For most of us, looking forward to the PC version, it's entirely irrelevant, anyway. Seriously, the whole idea makes me wish that laxatives were put in the water supply, just to loosen some people up.

I wonder if it's been mentioned that the game is not confirmed to be coming to console at all, a statement directly from arenanet themselves? There has been a team 'looking into it' for 3 years now. Same as there's been a team 'looking into' a console version of WoW for about 5.

Guild wars 2 will never appear on the xbox 360 anyway, due to patching costs and restrictions, but it can appear on PS3 with cross platform. That'd work out fine, you can somewhat map most combat abilities to the controller and the PS3 does support M+KB anyway. The game wont look all that great on console, running roughly medium at 1280x170/30fps, but it'd be a decent way for many players to get into the game.

Little bit of research would show you that GW2 is purposefully trying to give players more action centered instant gratification type of game play.

Anyone who is a veteran of GW1 knows that the depth and complexity comes in the builds.

-GW2 has openingly told us they want the instanced PvP to be very eSport like.

-They have openenly told us they want to eliminate grinding.

-They have openely told us they want action packed combat.

-They have openely told us they don't want you waiting around for fun and instead actively being a part of the world with fun public things going on around every corner and over every hill.

    Point is...

If you can honestly say this OP, and the idea of this game being on consoles is what worries you?

You know nothing about this game and will be dissapointed.

GW2 is going to be one of the most casual, action packed, instanced action, eSport heavy MMOs ever made.

It also looks to be a lot of fun, require no monthly commitment, and offer some pretty innovative twists on the idea of progression and content in a MMO and cool sounding open world battlegrounds.

I normally really respect your posts Yamota, but looks like you've been sipping the hater-aid and haven't opened your eyes my friend.
