He still had some pretty big concenrs about the game. He wasn't as harsh as the host, the other guy didn't really say anything. But the question is, do people who played Tera have the same opinions and and why or why not?

the host of the show is a retard,  ...

if you ask me he is payed to trash talk end of story on the host.

Hmmm... if he didn't like it, he was paid to not like it.  But if he liked it, a h8ter would say that ad revenue pressure made him claim to like it.  According to this forum, no one actually can state their true opinion, anymore... unless, of course, the opinion matches their own.  In which case, they are "honest brokers standing up to the evil hordes"...

he plays to lvl 11? and says the quests all suck, did he take a min to think that all mmo's quest work pretty much the same,

if anyone takes the time to play Tera I promiss you will not be disappointed, and if you don't like it, thats ok!

The "no true Scotsman" argument.  Nice.

Saying "all MMO's quests work the same" is like saying all books work the same.  That the text in the book doesn't matter.

The dude wasn't really criticizing HOW the quests worked, he was criticizing the quests themselves.  That quests are supposed to provide an entertaining context in which you do largely the same stuff to complete them that you do in other games.  He was saying the STORIES were crap.

I haven't tried the game, so I neither agree nor disagree.  But I DO agree that the stories should be interesting or it's pointless to have them in the game.

Well then you should try to get English subtitles and leave in the Korean voiceovers, translating anything from an Eastern language to English changes words and just makes everything cheesy.

It's really upsetting how the English language butchers these things for me.

    Yeah this guy is terrible.

Honestly, he didn't mention the biggest thing that anyone interested in the game would have mentioned.

Nothing agros on the first island. This would be the greatest red flag for boring.

Honestly, they tried to compare TERA's story to SWTOR's...lol. Tera, like most MMOs, has never claimed to have a great story. We also know that we're dealing with translation and that SWTOR's claim to fame was story and immersion and all that jazz. I'll give up "WoW's interface+voice acting+corridors" for different and harder combat.

He also says that "If you can quest without reading text, the game is a grinder." That makes...every mmo I've played a grinder. I really don't care about quest text because I don't care about questing. I was bored with SWTORs voice acting by the third or fourth quest honestly and only actually intently watched a few key events.

Spec'ing properly is a gateway drug.

200 people in the same dungeon trying to farm the same boss? I would love to see how that worked out.

Very simple. They had more than one boss. Is this really hard for people who've only played WoW to understand? wow...

Ofcourse it is. Most people who played WoW will assume that when someone says "no instancing" it's just the same way as in world of warcraft but without the instancing. Just imagine blizzard removing the instancing for dungeons and the chaos that would ensue, thats what they see when someone says "no instancing".

The fact is people want their own loot, their own stuff, tehy don't want to play as a socialist all for one strategy. That is just a westerner thing and asia games don't understand that we don't care if we don't get our own loot, our own boss kill, etc.. Good luck with Tera after Aion I won't be a sucker  for another asian grindfest

GRIND DOES NOT EQUAL MAKING A GAME CHALLENGING!! YES I AM YELLING LOL

Im failing to grasp what you mean by your statement, people want their own loot, and asia games dont understand that we dont care if we dont get out own loot?

    Could you clarify?

On my own interpretation, western market is more about getting loot than Asia that has been the same theme for every MMO till now get better gear, better ship, more gold, better crystals, dont think I have ever played an MMO where ppl didnt whine about not getting an item or that there were no ninja looters.

Koreans are actually not that bothered about loot and PVP for that matter, L2 used to be pretty carebear in Korea ( dont know if it still is ), and people would go for weird combinations like they would give really high end robes to blade dancers ( a sort of warrior buffer class for the people that dont know ) so they could put one more buff up ( buffs consumed more mana the more you buffed ). So they didnt really care the fact that well it would still be better for a caster to get it.

I dont know what you mean by asian grinder, all mmos are grinds if you dont enjoy doing the in game activities to level/improve your character. If you mean having to kill mobs over and over again with no purpose other than XP then no there is no such thing. If anything I think their "westernezation" of TERA put too many quests in game, I find I outlevel an area with tens of quests I havent done ( not complaining it was actually funny I ended up picking the quests I wanted to do on some areas ).

Sounds like a bard (not soooo far from WoW-Wrath's Shaman) in most games and actually it makes sense. The buff the one class brings to the entire raid is probably more than the dps increase one class would get if it was just given to a caster.

Doesn't seem that weird to me.

That statment is so confusing i don't even know wtf you just said. Btw south korea that makes these game aren't socialist either -.-. Tera is pretty westernized, it got instance and its not a grindfest, you lvl up same speed as any other western mmorpg.

True. They don't realize that a game without instances wouldn't have WoW's absolutely atrocious game design.

Funny stuff is that these dudes dont understand WHY you are ROOTED.. I mean come on??? I lose all respect for people who dont get the basic concept why you get locked into an annimation..

If there were no Lock annimation,  You have to make the game an FPS.. And In an FPS you dont have CLASSes in the same way as you have in an MMO.

SO unless We all want to play the same class we have to BALANCE COMBAT IN SOME WAY.. Or ells we all need to be able to do the same thing or RANGED DPS WILL JUST KITE EVRYTHING TO DEATH..

If anny of you morons on this video are reading this THERE IS A REASON FOR WHY YOU HAVE ANIMATION TIME... THERE IS ALSO A REASON WHY LATER IN THE GAME YOU CAN SPEED UP YOU ANIMATION TIME....

IF YOU DONT UNDERSTAND WHY SOMETHING IS THE WAY IT IS ASK BEFORE YOU SPEAK OR YOU LOOK STUPID...

Im going to ask you something what do you think would happen if you could spam everything and move while doing so?

    Example

we never get rooted, we can spam and cancel all our abilities..

    I have a bow

    You do not..

    You cant Tab target me...

    How do you win?

Even if you have a charge or something like that I can just keep moving out of the way... You would never catch me EvER.. and if you catch me.. The little damge you can do before I just Jump out of the way would not help you...

In an FPS we dont have annimation locks, BUT GUESS WHAT WE ALL USE THE SAME COMBAT MECHANIC. So unless we are all going to use the same Class, that can shoot ranged, do close combat damge.. we cant have some sort of animation timer...

So either we all play like IN COD.. or we find something that makes it possible for diffrent class types... In this case its animation timers... And you can speed the timers up..

This works the other way around also if you take away ranged class ablilites that make you seperate to compensate,, Melee would just close distance and Kill them.. so then ranged would be usless..

Animation timer is the only thing that can Keep both sides of the coin on an even playing field

    Stupid will be stupid..

The same way all that is accomplished in games that don't have animation locks. A lot more emphasis is placed on skills and ability balance.

Remeber animation timer is there for balance... whitout it we must all play this game like an FPS.. or it would not be balanced.. If we want diffrent classes we have to have it. Its there for a reason..

you can try this if you want start Using only your Knife in an FPS game and try to run into people who are shooting you.. see how well that will work.. No sneaking up on people.. do it from the front.. In an FPS game

No, it's there to not have to balance abilities. It doesn't have to be there other than they didn't separate animation on top half and bottom half of characters. It's a cheap way of going about balance.

It's been done with global cooldowns and crowd control. Are you sure you prefer that system over this system that, from my experience, allows for gameplay that relies less on your quickbar and more in what is happening with your character?

No it can't because hello not everyone in the world runs on super high speed internet with perfect connection. The amount of lag that would come from that make it impossible to impliment in to open world until everyone in the world has fast stable internet. Also fast animation focus on your reflex, root animation focus on your stratgey. Its two completley different type of combat if you want to play more reflex game than i suggest single player games or instance based games. Try monster hunter or god eater burst and you see what Tera is meant to be.

There are gap closer but they all run on cool down and all class has their own stun and escape skill. if you can kit endless ley no gap close will help because they just safe their stun when you get close and run away.

  • Timeout77Timeout77 Member Posts: 177

And if I cant get away.. you will destory me once you close distance...

ONLY CHANS FOR BALANCE IS SKIPPING CLASSES AND HAVE US USE THE SAME THINGS..

Remeber you cant AUTO TARGET ME.. SO IF I MOVE OUT OF THE WAY YOU MISS.. SO I WOULD HAVE A CLEAR RANGE ADVANTAGE ON YOU ALL THE TIME...

If you flipp the coin and make it so you cant move out of the way fast enough once melee closes the distance.. it comes down to who can DPS MOST.. Burst damge is the only thing that counts... No strategi Just BURST.. who has most wins..

all and all it will never get balanced enough, unless you do it like we all have the same ablilites just like an FPS game..

That you cant see this just shows your lack in understanding of PvP games...

  • rexzshadowrexzshadow Member Posts: 1,428

Well for range vs melee the chase is the entire fight. If range can't kill melee before they get close than chances are they are dead. Pretty much how most melee vs range works.

There are gab closers But you cant Tab target me.. so as you fly closer I will just jump the other way to keep distance...

If I had no animation timer.. I could just cancel and run the other way as you close.. Only chans you have is if the closer stuns me but then you need to hit me.. and guess what Its Real time and no auto target so I can get out of the way..

Yeep but with no animation timers I would spam all my anblites on the run.. I would never slow down.. Just like in a First person shooter.. Go try a First person shooter and see how well it works to try and close from the front with a knife.. There is a reason the Knife is a one hit death in an FPS.. if it wasent you could never win with it..  So unless we give Melee a much higher dps then ranged.. etc ...

Phh done arguing this Animation timer solves the problem.. Just thinking about this I see more and more things that need to get fixed to even make this work..
