1. It's e-sport approach and everything that follows with it: Bad community and classes being balanced for PvP. If you are mainly a PvP'er i expect you to have fun in GW2. I have put more time into Dota than any other game, but i want my mmorpgs to be mmorpgs and e-sports to be e-sports. 2 different games, 2 different ways to play. And did i mention the community in competetive games usually is crap?
2. The setting. Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaawn.
Other than that seems like a great game especially since its F2P, have fun
In my post I explained that the E-Sport aspect is limited to a certain game mode. I agree that this may affect the community and I had not previously thought of that, it's a really great observation. But I feel the World versus World could not sustain itself as an e-sport with the sheer size of forces available, castles, camps, keeps, etc... Community has not yet been determined, we're getting a decent view into the possibility, but remember that MMORPG.com is itself an extremely hostile community.
Setting is personal preference and I can't argue with you about that.

Yeah the community doesn't have to be as bad as in mobas for example, but im sure it will be affected to some degree. How much we don't know.
I was asked a long time ago this very same question. Only instead of GW2 it was replaced with "WoW". I simply replied the game isn't for me because I played MMOs before WoW came out. When playing an MMO meant something, and you actually "felt" like you achieved something. Then WoW came out, and muddied up the MMO genre.
Similarly, the answer to your question is that I simply don't know enough about GW2 to "want" to do anything with it. When an Open Beta, or if I get into Closed Beta, comes about I'll know from hands of experience if I "want" to do anything with it. Until that time I won't allow mere speculation, Hype, or overzealous consumers decide my own opinion of GW2 for me. Unless of course a user on here that I know has similar views of the game posts something constructive about how poor GW2 is. Then, I'd at least have some frame of reference before trying GW2.
Again, how can you "want" to do anything with a product without having tried it first? Developers, even kind ones, lie all the time in order to keep their jobs so their Publisher makes a buck in the end. Even developers are people, and people are flawed human beings.

In answer to the title of the thread: I do not want to play GW2 because of both the insane hype of this game and the rants of the fanboys on how this is going to be the best game ever. I have fallen for that in the past and now it just turns me off. Besides GW2 is just 1 more fantasy game - ho hum. And no I am not a TSW fan, too many questions about that game also. f I get another MMO I will most likely return to one that's been out awhile and not try an untested game. Maybe in a year I will look at GW2 but now, all I have seen is hype. That's my honest answer to your question. Flame on if you wish but flaming me isn't going to spark an interest that ins't there.
What does this have to do with anything? Just turn eighteen and felt like sharing?
1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical.

7. It's NCSOFT...I find NCSOFT games to be too grindy and boring
NCsoft is the publisher. Arenanet is the developer. Arenanet is an American company. There will be no grind.
6. I hate the artsy graphics
Obviously that's your opinion. But I find it odd that you don't enjoy beautiful graphics that will run on older computers.
5. I know it isn't the same game, but I loathed GW1. I tried GW1 about 10+ times hoping it would be better each time...but it was garbage everytime I tried it.
It's not GW1. It's not instanced. It's a different genre. GW1 was not an MMO.
4. Underwater combat (I completed 1 quest in WoW's underwater area and I never went back)
Because it was an after-thought in WoW. It's a joke. Very well could be in GW2 but I doubt it, I've heard about underwater combat for a while now.
3. No Holy trinity (why mess with it if people are liking it?)
You still need someone dedicated to tanking healing and dpsing, it's just that any class can do any of those.
2. I am totally sick of fantasy games with the same old ranger/warrior junk
Your opinion.
1. And my number 1 reason for not wanting to play it is..........If people from this site are playing it, I don't want anything to do with it. The way that GW2 fanboys hijacked the ToR pre-launch threads was an embarassment to the real GW2 fans. If you weren't one of those people, this was not directed toward you. I sincerely hope that the respectful GW2 fans have a great time playing it.

Won't even give that an intelligent reply.
yes, his opinion... which is pretty much what the thread asked for - why you are NOT going to buy it. Dissecting his opinion like that isn't going to convince him to buy it. It is hype- a-tudes like that that have already turned me off to the game. Not everyone likes every game. I hope you enjoy it... I hope it doesn't have a bad launch - which is possible. I hope it is ALL you want it to be, but from all the hype I think that is pretty hard. But when you dissect someone's opinion like that you are not being graceful. (and for the inevitable why are you in this thread if you don't like the game - I posted earlier and I wanted to see if there was a reply) My question to the op is why ask a question like that if you disagree with the answer before you hear it?
So? Name more than 3 MMO's where you never teleport anywhere. It's still a seamless open world.
- No mounts (unless they added or promised them in the past months).
- No sprint abilities (?)
- No pvp in the open, main game world, only in dedicated instances. Everyone is supposed to be eachother's bff in the main game world; you can't even steal someone's harvesting node, let alone fight over it V_V (A lot of the games I left early was because of the world not giving me the thrill of "player danger" due to lack of pvp freedoms, incentives and suffiient death penalties).
- Another high-fantasy game with the text book representations of high fantasy racial archetypes.
ON THE + SIDE (BECAUSE IT'S NOT ALL GRIPES AND LEMMONS IN PONY'S MEADOW!!!!1111):
Graphics, general gameplay, underwater content, dynamic questing and WvWvW all seem appealing to me.
My personal conclusion: Carefully optimistic but sitting on the fence until after launch. (Also because I recently took a nose dive out of the Swtor tree and hit every branch on the way down).
7. It's NCSOFT...I find NCSOFT games to be too grindy and boring
NCsoft is the publisher. Arenanet is the developer. Arenanet is an American company. There will be no grind.Wrong on grind part... there will be grind in PvE to reach max lvl but endgame will not be the main focus of PvE for once the journey is what really matters. Also you are right NCSOFT has little to do with GW2
6. I hate the artsy graphics
Obviously that's your opinion. But I find it odd that you don't enjoy beautiful graphics that will run on older computers.I like the stylish painting art of GW2 as well.
5. I know it isn't the same game, but I loathed GW1. I tried GW1 about 10+ times hoping it would be better each time...but it was garbage everytime I tried it.
It's not GW1. It's not instanced. It's a different genre. GW1 was not an MMO.

Because it was an after-thought in WoW. It's a joke. Very well could be in GW2 but I doubt it, I've heard about underwater combat for a while now.Yea in GW2 it's much different since your skills change when you're underwater and there's no breath meter i've also seen some cool underwater hidden tunnels that lead in hidden places.
3. No Holy trinity (why mess with it if people are liking it?)
You still need someone dedicated to tanking healing and dpsing, it's just that any class can do any of those.Wrong! there's no need for tanking it's really more support/dps/control if you try to tank you're going to be a huge failure in your group. Learn to dodge and place your skills to support your group.
2. I am totally sick of fantasy games with the same old ranger/warrior junk
Your opinion. This is something I don't agree with because it really doesn't do much in a mmo since there has been WoW it's like people just reskin guns over magic and call it sci-fi but guess what it's the same. How it plays is what truly distinguishes a game and I don't care if it has flying vehicles or dragon riding so long as it's actually good.
1. And my number 1 reason for not wanting to play it is..........If people from this site are playing it, I don't want anything to do with it. Won't even give that an intelligent reply. Yea this doesn't warrant a reply because you should never have played any mmo that ever came out if that was the case because there's people on this forum that played every game, besides people thought SWTOR was going to change things up and since that didn't happen and the next release that would shake things up was GW2 it's only natural that this happened.
How could you not want to play Guild Wars 2? Uhm .. let's see ... - Teleporting galore So? Name more than 3 MMO's where you never teleport anywhere. GW2 is. - No sub = nice but open to a relatively younger, more vocal audience. - I played but didn't like GW1 Cool but this is GW2, not GW1. Completley different genre. - Crafting not really deeply involving it seems - Cash shop; you can't be really sure what they are going to offer through it post launch. They promised only cosmetic items will be added. - Another themepark game where the stuff that you can do and the places where you can do them, are all very much predetermined. That's true, there is no open world PVP as follows the standard definition. Maybe ANet realized that the types of people who love gankfests are the types of people they don't want weighing down their community.

Hate to burst your bubble, but the world isn't seamless. It also doesn't have the open world PvP as most players mean by that expression.
You're right, but I think a lot of people confuse "seamless" and "non-instanced."
All seamless means that there are no loading screens between zones (like most of WoW). You can still have a highly seamed game that is completely non-instanced, like Everquest.
Personally, I always saw seamless as something that was "nice" but not completely necessary. Waiting to load when you zone is a little annoying, but it's not like it has a massive impact on gameplay.
That's true, there is no open world PVP as follows the standard definition. Maybe ANet realized that the types of people who love gankfests are the types of people they don't want weighing down their community.

That's true, there is no open world PVP as follows the standard definition. Maybe ANet realized that the types of people who love gankfests are the types of people they don't want weighing down their community.
The only people who should have an issue with this type of PVP are those who like to gank non-PVPers or noobs, PVP is still going to be unpredictable in a sense, as it's not simply held within a small BG, it's wide open just not in a way that impedes on the rest of the game. PVPers who like to fight PVPers shouldn't have a problem with this aspect of GW2.

Yep, bingo.
I played UO, Darkfall, and even a PvP server on WoW, and can verify that this is 100% true.
In Darkfall, it was common to see people talking about "wolves" and "sheep." The "wolves" (griefers) were always trying to find a way to get more "sheep" (non-griefers/prey) into the game without sacrificing the huge advantage they have for being long-time players.
Even on one of the WoW PvP servers, I think most of my PvP encounters can be boiled down to a level 60 (this was vanilla) wandering into level 30 zones and ganking for the hell of it.
That's exactly it, GW2 offers one less option, but people should ask themselves if wanting it included doesn't say something about their personality. When I played on a PVP server in WoW, I never heard of epic battles happening between like-levels out in the open world, I heard "Lulz, I just one shotted this dude mining copper". I don't want gankers in my game. If you don't like that GW2 doesn't offer you the chance to be a giant dickface, play something else, you won't be missed.

This is funny,
When I first started WoW at release in 2004 - I was on a PvP server.
WoW was my first level based MMO really. Before WoW I had played SWG and UO so I was used to some very different mechanics.
I remember a big battle in the Barrens, everyone was like level 10-11 to mid 20's and there were at least 30-40 people on each side. Alliance had come across the boat through Ratchet or whatever.
Remember this was my FIRST toon in WoW, Orc Warrior, and first toon ever created in a level based EQ style game.
I remember getting absolutely face rolled by a guy on the Alliance side that was at least 10 or 11 levels above me. I remember I couldn't even hit him and I think he two shot me.
Afterwards, I asked a guildy what was up with that, and they said "Yeah dude he's like 10 levels higher of course you didn't have a chance!"
Not too long after that, quit that toon and started playing on a PvE server.

Yep that's usually the tale, especially when levels and gear play such a large part in a players power (WOW). How often in AOC did anyone see an 80 fighting an 80 outside of Kesh? Never, it was always an 80 fighting a 20. Gotta say I loved being a 70 ranger popping out of stealth to help the noobs, great fun no one cries harder than one of those schmucks who likes to gank weaker players.

Gotta say I loved being a 70 ranger popping out of stealth to help the noobs, great fun no one cries harder than one of those schmucks who likes to gank weaker players.
