But all you just said is EXACTLY what i'm saying. The ONLY THING i find in Guild Wars 2 that is symbolic of the term EDNGAME is the fact that you reached the END of a leveling curve lol. the only thing that ENDS, is leveling. you still have just as much to do as you always have on the way to 80.
Glad we agree though ^_^
Haha, my mistake.
I'm still kinda waking up over here. =/ Completely misread your post.
That's a short list. My list goes something like this.
1. Level scaling. Have never experienced it in an mmo. Have never been able to play with my friends consistantly due to differing schedules, therefore they always outlevel me. this is my biggest YAY.
2. 3 faction pvp. Not one sided like SWTOR.
3. No gear treadmill. Halle-fuckin-leuah.
4. No hoomungous skillbars. one skillbar. important skills.
5. Dynamic content. No more running for the '!' Enjoy the world and come across things to do as you do so.
6. Explorable content. The jumping puzzle stuff looks fantastic. Something OTHER to do than the standard 'fightfightfightfight"
7. B2P. Buy to Play. NEver seen this.
and that's my list of things im most interested in in GW2.
No, i havent been playing mmo's since their conception, so EVERYTHING about GW2 could have been done before, yada yada. It's new to me, and i'd garner i've played abit more mmo's than MOST people, as i'm a stay at home dad and well. Stay at home. lol. So if it's new to me, chances are it's new to many many others.
Well, does the game allow me to own a shop? What about gathering resources to make potions to sell at my shop? Can a group of players get together and build a town and then have to defend the town? What about mounts, does the game have mounts? Is there swimming? Can we explore an underwater cave and find a treasure? How about own a ship - a boat? Can we go fishing?
So what exactly do you do at end game in GW2 - can someone tell me?
I don't know about most of the things you asked, except the underwater cave with treasure, have seen video's of that.
You asked for 'a list of features in this game that would indicate this game is anything more than another themepark with a different flavor', and i gave you mine. I don't want to sell you on the game, nor am i claiming it's more than a themepark. I get that you don't like that it's a themepark, and it's probably not for you. But calling this game shallow when stacked against all the other games that ARE shallow is odd to me. Just my opinion.
What about end game? What will you do when you hit max level?
I think you are starting to troll..
First of all you have done almost no research in a game you so called shallow... at least if you had you'd be more aware of underwater combat which is a good chunck of the game and know that end game is not like WoWs..
Second of all you are obviously excited about Archage.. which is sandbox...
If themepark is not your cup of tea, then don't expect it to have the ability to create towns, ships, houses, etc.. all the good features that sandbox should offer
People gave you numerous good answers on how its different.. I just don't understand the point in telling you what end game is when you probably don't even have enough interest to get half way there...
So instead of answering my question...you attack me. Typical. No they didn't give me an answer other than we'll be doing dynamic events for end game - tons of events - I guess that means tons of RIFTs huh. LOL! Oh well...whatever. I am not trolling I am stating an opinion. The game looks shallow and dead end. This is not a persistent open world - and has nothing to keep me interested.
sorry teala....but you are being a troll...you know what the game will have to offer, then you bait with the things missing to make it a "real MMO", then move on to call their quest system nothing more than RIFTs...which, if you do follow the info about this game, would make it nothing but a troll comment...its the whole basis of this game.
stupid thing is Im almost 100% certain you would praise this game if it had been a singleplayer game...

As i edited above, i'll redo it here as well.
IF their was no levels in either Archage or GW2, the endgame would be similar, to me anyways. ENDGAME- to me, is a word that implies gear treadmill, or something similar, something neither game has, as i understand it. So if there were no levels in guild wars 2, you would continue to do the dynamic events, as they have tons of them, even at 80. by tons i mean hundreds of different events .
So, to me, endgame in guild wars 2 is just more game, with no added levels. hope that's clear enough
Nah, I disagree...well at least I disagree on the assumption that Archeage will actually turn out to be a sandbox similar to UO.
"End game" is a themepark contrivance. It does not exist in UO-esque sandboxes.
End game simply means you have run out of developer created content to do, and now they have to keep your busy somehow. So once again, you only have "end game" in games that rely on developer created content almost exclusively (theme parks).
In UO, you simply played the game. You fought monsters, got money, bought houses, made shops, bought ships, created towns with other players, got in wars with other players, etc. etc.
There was no way to "win" the game, so there was no real end to this. You just did whatever you felt like and created your own "game" in the world.
Isn't that the same thing i said kinda?
Once you've reached endgame(Endgame in GW2 being level 80, right?) you still have tons of dynamic events and both of the PVP's to do....they'll be adding more dynamic events as they go , so in essence, wouldn't there not be an endgame in either game? The only thing that defines endgame in guild wars 2, to me, is level 80...Trying to wrap my mind around what you are saying. Are you saying that because you say...take out the big baddie, dragon or whatever it is, that you have done it all and now can only do normal dynamic events? or that you explore so much there is no more exploring to do?
I feel that when it gets to that point, again, for ME, there will already be another expansion or two out to add to that...
Ah I see what you're saying and I did misunderstand in part, but my point also stands in part. Yeah, I think that the GW2 endgame will actually resemble the endgame of Skyrim because of the level scaling. In Skyrim, you can just wander around doing any quests you find without any regard to the level of the quest. Same thing in GW2.
If I get level 80 as a human, I can always decide to experience the Charr starting area with my level 80 character that will get scaled down...the whole world is open to me.
On the other hand, GW2 is still largely based on finite, developer-created content that will eventually be exhausted...with the exception of PvP of course. So it doesn't have the self-perpetuating player-driven system that old school MMO sandboxes had.
I guess it's a mixed bag. I see GW2 has having just as much of "end game" longevity as SP sandboxes like Skyrim have. But not as much as MMORPG sandboxes like UO have.
Nothing to discuss anymore, completely agree with you
Let's just hope that more expansions come out before we hit that peaking point.

Hmm... regardless they shouldn't be attacking you personally for having a different taste in games. However, I think they're being defensive due to the fact that you're stating some horrible misinformation about the game. Even though you may not have any idea about how the game actually is, you're giving the appearance of trolling the GW2 forums hater-style. I'm sure that's not your intent. I think things would be more civil if you didn't make mistaken comparisons to dynamic events in GW2 with the static rift formations in Rift (only faux dynamic due to location/time spawned). Oh, and the mistaken impression that you're giving that it isn't a persistent, open world when those informed with the game know otherwise...
Maybe I'll look up AA... don't really know much about it. I played Eve for awhile, but found that over time sandboxes can fall flat, however that's a personal thing. I simply got bored with trying to force things to happen, especially in wormholes. Well... when you had uninvited guests, that got interesting unless you were grossly outnumbered and had to hole up in your POS... still, it may be worth looking into as long as it doesn't have a sub to waste money on or isn't pay to win.
Ah, good! You may like this one then... it's B2P and the cash shop is cosmetic only, no pay to win items. I agree though, F2P games with cash shops ultimately seem to turn into purchased victories. Hate that. It's a relief knowing GW2 won't be taking that approach, you agree?

I'm not going to pay for a f2p game either. The cash shop will have more than cosmetic items so you people can stop telling that bullshit allready. There will be new maps and packs and a lot of other things. You people need to stop living in the GW1 world and realize this is a DIFFERANT game.
If you really believe you'll never need to spend more money to keep up with the other guys your in for a big suprise.

Well, all you have to do is ask GW1 vets if the purchasable items were cosmetic only or added/changed character power in game.
I don't have the answer, but since GW2 is using the same payment model (as it seems to have worked quite well for them) I'd say it's logical they won't be changing the formula for GW2.

How do you validdate your assumption that the cash shop will have things like new map packs? Others assume that there won't be, because ArenaNet has said as much. Unless they are blatenyly lying, larger things will be reserved for expansions, and if you have a problem with those, then you are expcting too much for nothing.
yeah..right. And you be sure to pop back up here when the game comes out so you can explain the need to spend in the cash shop. While your waiting you might want to read some of the interviews and articles so you dont sound like a blinded fanboy.
In GW1 there has never been any item you could purchase that would give you a real advantage over anyone else. Even the PvP skill unlocks (which won't be applicable in GW2 due to a different means of unlocking skills) only sped up what you could already do ingame. Hell, I have every skill unlocked in PvP simply from playing and cashing in Balthazar faction, it doesn't take that long. So, based on history and what was actually stated to date from ANet I'm quite confident you won't be able to purchase power over another player.
Come on Teala, I like your posts, but posting what you did is pretty much guaranteed to be seen as baiting, and you've been here since 2004, you should know that - don't cry about being "attacked". No one's going to be convinced.

It's my understanding that what they said was," there will not be items for sale that give an advantage over those who earn things by playing the game" -paraphrase. That could mean a number of things really, unless they've clarified that statement, it's all guess work as to what they will sell.

One example of this mentioned are T-stones, the thing WoW copied that lets you transfer stats from one set of armor to another. You can purchase them in the store, you can buy them in game or you can craft them in game. If you're in a hurry, you can use the store to look pretty faster.

We all know it will have the same model as GW1 for the cash shop. That means cool clothing, character slots, storage, character recustomization and renaming, and extra content. There won't be anything that gives you a material advantage, ever, and we all know that. The only "map packs" there might be would be single-player things to add to the personal story. They said they don't want to dilute who can play dynamic events by charging for them outside of large content packs or paid expansions.
The thing about Transmutation stones. I just know, deep in my heart where I keep my troll fu, that there will be people complaining Anet stole that from Blizzard.
Also, we all know Travawhatever is a big-time troll, so don't feed him.
I think Teala was really into EVE a while back, and so she's probably looking for something Guild Wars 2 just won't be able to provide. That's fine, people like different things. I think she is just misinformed and probably being a little caustic, but that's just because she A) doesn't know what's in GW2, and obviously doesn't care enough to look and does not pull punches. Yes you can swim. There are straight up buckets of underwater content. Tons of it. No you can't set up a shop. You use the global (across all servers) bazaar system. No you can't create your own keep. You try to take and protect keeps in the Mists from the nameless "other" who roam there. You can't build your own house in the woods, but you can do a lot of crafting and the PvE content is light-years ahead of other themeparks in both content and execution.
But at the end of the day, it's still a themepark. A buy to play (not free to play) themepark that won't let you buy to win.

Just watch, the game will release, and despite its success she'll make 5 or 6 completely obsessive blogs about how it's failing, it sucks, it's unoriginal, etc. and wish for nothing more than it to fail instead of simply letting the people who enjoy it do so.
Honestly, I'd just ignore her.
How do you validdate your assumption that the cash shop will have things like new map packs? Others assume that there won't be, because ArenaNet has said as much. Unless they are blatenyly lying, larger things will be reserved for expansions, and if you have a problem with those, then you are expcting too much for nothing.

People hate apples, they like oranges.
They go to the store, they buy apples.
They go home, complain to anyone who will listen how much they don't like apples.
Logical person says, well, you should have bought an orange.
One example of this mentioned are T-stones, the thing WoW copied that lets you transfer stats from one set of armor to another. You can purchase them in the store, you can buy them in game or you can craft them in game. If you're in a hurry, you can use the store to look pretty faster.

Then forum dude says "Can I haz your apples?"
Oderint, dum metuant.
Then forum dude tries to convince you oranges > apples and you're a simpleton for liking apples.

"There are two great powers, and they've been fighting since time began. Every advance in human life, every scrap of knowledge and wisdom and decency we have has been torn by one side from the teeth of the other. Every little increase in human freedom has been fought over ferociously between those who want us to know more and be wiser and stronger, and those who want us to obey and be humble and submit."
