Visiting any of these gaming community websites is like watching TV late at night with a full subscription to every cable channel known to man; you just keep flipping through channels in the hopes of finding something worth watching.
You are being barraged with a plethora of choices; with some equating to the level of Premium Channels--- while others are relegated to what amounts to a station that has gone off the air and is now being sustained by Infomercials until regular programming can resume.
Some people fall asleep with those Infomercials as a fuzzy background noise, some people find they can't fall asleep because they might miss that ONE program that (in their minds) makes their ridiculously expensive cable subscription worth the price they pay, and despite the mocking laughter of their friends and associates, some people actually like those fluff programs on the stations like LIFETIME and VH-1.
In the privacy of your own home, no one else is paying for that cable subscription, so flip away and extract every penny of pleasure out of it that you can!
Since my priority is PvP and Tera has better combat I will be prioritizing it.
If I get bored or want a timeout I will most likely try out guild wars 2 for the PvE.
Don't know how good GW2 really is but it is definately not as good as the hype suggests (no game in existence has ever been). Only a play test can tell.
--- Insanity: Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.
Actually, while I agree with you, I will knitpick this one a bit. Most folks who are complaining about pvp are talking specifically about open world pvp. I rarely hear large scale pvp mentioned, but specifically pvp centered on their own people on their own server, which GW2 does absolutely not have. To my understanding, at this point, not even duelling.
I am going to play this game, but really, if I am honest with myself, do not hold all that much hope for it. That may be good in the end. It will probably make me happier with it than a lot of people will be. It does not have a lot of negatives for me, though I have to say, in watching pvp footage, I really felt a lot like I was watching WoW pvp, at least aesthetically.
I am on the fence about it because I absolutely hated the first one. With all the things that are promised to be in the sequel I am very interested but am keeping my expectations low. I prefer to be blown away instead of let down.

what does GW1 have to do with GW2? GW1 didnt even qualify as an MMO, whereas GW2 is THE next gen MMO.
I know... this is like saying you don't like chicken because you're afraid of velociraptors.

I admit the combat in Tera sounds intriguing, however the fact that skills root you in place leaves a foul taste in my mouth. By comparison, GW2 allows you to cast and shoot while actually moving, with very few skills having a rooting action. GW2 simply sounds like a more active, dynamic combat system to me personally.
Ppl QQ that firms promise "revolutionary games" and they don't deliver.....but when 1 actually delivers it in an epic way, ppl don't want to accept it....tough luck for them.
Woah, woah, woah.
I'm just as excited about GW2 as you seem to be, but lets face facts here. The game has not released yet. ArenaNet has delivered on exactly 0% of their promises at this point in time.
Sure, the game looks really great in beta, everything that ArenaNet has been saying about their game seems to be there, which is why I'm really excited for it. But I also know that something could go horribly wrong before release.
I mean what if they can't get WvW working correctly and have to scale it down, like only having WvW instead of WvWvW because the amount of people crashes the server. I'm not saying this will happen, but it isn't completely crazy either.
If you say that won't happen I have 1 example of it already happening. Scouts and renown hearts.
Originally ArenaNet came out to say they were really excited to not have quests and you were going to be left up to your own devices to find the dynamic events. Then a few months later we find out they added traditional-ish quests and NPCs to talk to because some twats who apparently have never played actual RPG games before test the game out and run by all of the screaming villagers and houses on fire because they don't have a quest to help those people.
Now personally, I liked the way it was before. I like the feel of having a completely open environment to just explore. Don't get me wrong, I understand exactly why ArenaNet had to do what they did, and I also understand I don't have to use the scouts or complete the renown heart quests but they are there, and that bothers me.
Edit: I'm also quite leery about the Mesmer in it's current state. Mesmer was my favorite class from GW1, but in GW2 it seems really boring. I mean, I don't see the need for 2-3 different skills in every weapon set that uses clones. It almost feels like ArenaNet gave up and just said, "I'm tired of thinking of skills, just make everything clones!"
"There is as yet insufficient data for a meaningful answer."
The only reason why you wouldn't want to play GW2 is because you think you know better than everyone else who is excited for it, you think you got it aaallll figured out don't ya? You think we are all fools 'cos you think this game is going to fail... Well, let me tell ya something, we're all fools biache and nothing is going to change that. Where you're standing or how much you push your chest out is not going to change that.
WvW is one of their main features, and it is laggy and choppy as hell. That can be a pretty big deterrent for wanting to play the game.
Well, lets tell the whole story here. It's still in closed beta with an unknown release date, at this time. There were SOME of the press that had lag issues, others stated they didn't notice it at all. And, last but not least, the videos WE have seen had fraps running in the background, which would certainly affect the performance. They've stated that they still have alot of optimizing to do, obviously if the game launches with a ton of lag in WvW, that would be very detrimental.
Reading the various posts in this thread can be very frustrating, to be honest. There are alot of half-truths and flat out incorrect responses in this thread. Now, play whatever game you want, it's your money...but honestly, if you don't even know what you're talking about and post anyway, you're setting yourself up to get flamed by 'fanbois'.

How is this Apples and Oranges when it's called "Apples 2" ? I also did not like GW1, but on top of that watching the floppy eared asura skip through the game world did it in for me. I actually wanted to like this game but memory and the visuals of what is coming make it incompatible to my tastes.
List of reasons someone might not want to play Guild Wars 2:
Not much in terms of max level character progression.
No world PVP.
No raids.
Tired of instancing.
Most of the content will likely not be very diffcult (I wouldn't expect dynamic events which by definition are meant to be done by PUGs forming out of thin air to pose any challenge).
Can I honestly tell you why for the longest time I was dead set against Guild Wars 2?
The community. More specifically, the majority of the Guild Wars 2 fans on this website. I honestly got so tired of hearing how much better Guild Wars 2 was than this game or that game. The constant belittling of World of Warcraft or The Old Republic. It just honestly got really old, ,really fast but I couldn't deny that the game at least looked like it was going to be a good game. So, my hope is that I'm wrong about the Guild Wars 2 community once I actually get into the game and play.
I don't believe in perfect games and I believe there's enough room for more than 1 or 2 successful MMOs and it's great to have pride in a game but I think a little humilty goes a long way because it wasn't too long ago that we had legions of people going on and on about how much better Finaly Fantasy XIV was going to be than all these other games and look how that turned out. I'm optimistic about the game and I have no doubt that it's going to be really good but I just hope there's a decline in the elitist attitude about this game.
Firstly, Guild Wars 1 is complete and utter trash to me. I've tried to get into that game multiple times, and each time I get bored and quit after an hour or so. So that right there makes me cautious.
Secondly, all of the videos I've seen of GW2 combat make it look identical to pretty much every other MMO out there, except for the fact that you have to dodge a powerful attack occasionally. Wow, that's soooo groundbreaking and awesome... except for the fact that you have to do that in pretty much every MMO out there already. So that's a bust.
Thirdly, I like playing tanks and healers. Since there's no 'holy trinity' in this game... WTF am I supposed to do? Everyone plays a self-healing DPS then? We tank by jumping around the screen like a squirrel with ADD? Wow, that sounds like so much fun... no wait, it sounds idiotic.
And fourthly, I despise PvP and the community that usually springs up around those types of games, especially the ones that consider themselves 'E-sports' (a ridiculous concept in and of itself, IMO). Since the game doesn't have any form of raiding, what am I supposed to do after I hit the cap? Do 5-mans forever, or will there be the typical slew of daily quests to complete? Neither option really seems all that appealing.
I'll probably end up giving the game a shot, but I'm sure not hyped up for it.
Because it's another in 1000 fantasy MMOS out there.

It's tough seeing games get continually bashed, especially when I'm playing those games. Don't let the small minority of jaded and angry gamers on this website paint a picture of what the community will be as a whole.
So because people offer a critique it makes them jaded and angry?
The thread was asking for reasons not to play and just because poeple give reasons doesn't even mean they won't be playing. I would say with a good chunk of people giving reasons which are based on incorrect information rather than opinion it could only bode well in the long run.

I'd say the two major contributing factors of anyone not wanting to play GW2 are preference... and in larger part, ignorance.
BOYCOTTING EA / ORIGIN going forward.

You could take a look at this and tell me, if you can see the difference between GW2 combat and traditional MMORPG combat.
I can see one and that one rewards skillful play more than any MMORPG out there and to come in this year.
