The only answer is. If you want WoW in space with a very good leveling experience then play it. If your looking for something new, "This is not the game you are looking for."
"In the immediate future, we have this one, and then weve got another one that is actually going to be so were going to have, what we want to do, is in January, what were targeting to do, this may or may not happen, so you cant hold me to it. But what were targeting to do, is have a fun anniversary to the Ilum shenanigans that happened. An alien race might invade, and they might crash into Ilum and there might be some new activities that happen on the planet." ~Gabe Amatangelo
I read the reviews on game review sites and they seem to give this game high ratings. But when I come here it's all doom and gloom. Should I even try this game or is it really that bad?
A friend gave me the game free... and I still could not play it.
The game is a single player game with multi-player tacked on.
ToR in no way or shape or form feels like a online game world to play in, it feels like a huge empty zone with very linear story driven quests with cutscenes and nothing to do after you finish the class quest/story line.
Oh my bad there is the broken unbalanced PVP on the same boring maps over and over and all PVE has to offer end game is chase that carrot for better gear.
Bioware must have done ToR like this on purpose so that when they make the Mass Effect MMO people will play it and trust me... I look for the Mass Effect MMO to capture that online world/explore adventure/risk vs reward.
I'd be dreaming if I got to play a Mass Effect MMO. (Pun intended.)
As others have mentioned - if you're looking for a fairly generic WoW type experience then this may be the game for you.
It is WoW in Space with half the end game content and voice overs.
Not even the people that are the real boosters of this game can deny that fact. You can refer to my "feedback" thread to see what my more detailed opinion looks like.
Don't be looking for anything dynamic or innovative in content though. You will be disappointed.
What kind of a question is this? Someone can say that a type of sandwich tastes good but you may not like it just due to personal taste. Only way to find out it to try it

Sandwiches dont cost $60+, dont make you subcribe to something and enter CC info just to take a bite . And if you dont like it most sandwich shops will offer a refund

Yes, it's really that bad.
"There are two great powers, and they've been fighting since time began. Every advance in human life, every scrap of knowledge and wisdom and decency we have has been torn by one side from the teeth of the other. Every little increase in human freedom has been fought over ferociously between those who want us to know more and be wiser and stronger, and those who want us to obey and be humble and submit."

Yes, it's really that bad.
The above poster is correct, the people at the site are really that bad.
Unless the game is some kind of open world sandbox MMO, most "critics" here will be negative.
As for TOR, it's not too shabby. Give it a try if you aren't only interested in sandbox MMOs...

The reason said it in that way because there is now an trial going out to active players to invite friends for a week, so if he wanted to im sure he could get an invite.
No the game is not bad. It's probably the best WoW-inspired MMORPG released in years. It just needs some time to get some kinks worked out. If the WoW-style of game still appeals to you, you'll enjoy it, but be warned, there isn't much in the way of an endgame yet.

Ask yourself this. Who has an invested interest in giving good/bad reviews for this game and who has no stake in it?
Thats not really saying much.
Even less so when reviewing the MMO genre where everyone has favorites. If someone is looking forward to GW2 or TERA do you really think that they'll be far to TOR or WoW? I mean whats the point those two games suck and GW2/TERA will be awesome if everyone see how bad TOR/WoW are they'll all play my game.
Personal review don't really say much, because instead of looking at things such as feature and content they generally turn into, "This is why this game suck/rocks".
In the case of TOR a lot of the so called "reviews" sound like, "TOR DOES NOT INNOVATE!11!!1!! Negative 5".
See highlighted sentence above.
Now, hear me out here. I have NEVER understood why people think this when I see it here on this site. This is the only place where I have seen that "logic" applied and it's never made much sense to me. Why on earth would I want a bunch of manipulative asshats from a forum invading MY favorite game? I wouldn't....pure and simple. So at least for ME....I'm not going to be trying to manipulate people from these forums into "liking MY game." Granted there are a FEW (a very few) people around here that I wouldn't mind playing with, but that is not the majority of people here.
So tell me again just why anyone would really try to manipulate people to come play THEIR game?? I don't get it.
If its not a super-hyped game thats not out yet. Or a game thats so old no one plays it anymore and is full of nostalgia. You'll get nothing but hate here.
Playing Nothing waiting for The secret world Played WoW, DCU online, star wars: the old republic, city of heroes, city of villains, everquest, plenty more I'm probably forgetting or aren't worth noting.

No the game is not bad. No the game is not good. At all, either way.
There's some enjoyment to be had. Especially if you enjoy PVE and hopefull you do while playing this. I can only rate the game from what little Ive played as mediocre.
Again, not bad, but its not exactly what Id label as "good" either.
Not a bad game but not a good MMO. The best part of the game is the solo(single player) story line, the MMO part of the game for me was terrible, even if this game was F2P I would not have played more than the 25 days I did. Not going to rehash why as it has already been expressed in just about every thread in this forum.
I would try for a buddy key if you can get one and try it for yourself as your milage may vary that way you do not have to spend the money on the box up front and will be out nothing if you do not like the game.

This is so true, and the reason is because this is one of if not the oldest site completely dedicated to MMORPG's, so back in the days when MMO's were underground this was pretty much the only site on the subject.
Over the years as MMO's became more mainstream and many other MMO sites started poping up this site remained the MMO site for the grandfathers of MMO gaming, (pre EQ1 players), so yes I agree most on this site are nostalgic and only Hype the Hyped or dead games of the past or future, never the present, only EVE gets that honor and only because it's a sandbox that has been around for 10 years and is going stong, other then that all games that are live will get torn apart on this site.
Wait till GW2, AA & TSW comes out, after a month this site will rip it apart and hype the next MMO in alfa/beta lol, this has been a ever going cycle here at MMORPG.com for years.
The funny thing is, all those old school MMO's that most get all nostalgic about, if they were to come out today with updated GFX people here will still bitch and find things to bitch about not matter what, and the real reason is no matter what games comes out it will never be good enough for them, they enjoy living in the part and enjoy dreaming of the perfect MMO rather then playing one.
"On the subject" @ OP: It's worth the money, good game and they seem to be keeping up with the patches, the down sides to this game is that Swtor lacks community tools but they seem to be adding those tool in patch 1.2.
If you enjoy Star Wars and a solid story it's well worth the $50 IMO, look at Swtor like you would any other Bioware game.
The game isn't bad and do what it is supposed to do.
Of course far from all players like what it does but that is not the same thing as the game is bad. I don´t think it is a game most players would like to play for years though.
Oh, the PvP is far from good though so if you are a PvP fan you can probably say the game is bad.
It is really supposed to be KOTOR with a bit of MMO feeling to it and that it do well. If you like that or not is up to you.
It's not bad, if you can get it for about 20€ and don't resub.
At least before the Second Coming of Messiah patch 1.2 that is postponed to be released at April and, depending on who you ask, overhauls pretty much everything the game has now and adds everything imaginable missing.

They should of never launched the game without the things being added in patch 1.2, I think they thought that the story would of held people untill they got around to 1.2 but it kind of back fired on them, to launch a MMO in 2012 without a LFG system is death, thank goodness they are adding it next month.

unfortunately too late to many players. like you said 1.2 should have been included in retail version already might have been success more than it is now.

Fixe'd it for you. Apart of that it is just WoW in a new skin.

Its not bad, but its not great , just average.
But a bit of a boring end game, very very linear. No real challenge other then some end game bosses
Not bad if you are somewhat new to this, but for most veterans it sucks

The concept is exacly the same.

Do your daily dungeon
Do your daily battleground
If you like wow and are not done with these kind of mmo's SWTOR might be your thing.
For me the fun ended after 3 weeks of playing and regreted i fell aonce again for a mmo that had great marketing but no real feeling of next gen mmo.
