Honestly I was hoping the game was going to be at least on par with lineage 2, but sadly it just is not coming together.

Game looks OK, not stellar, but decent. The twitch combat system is nice to see, but not really new or done as well as some Korean F2P's like Dragonnest.

Just like SWTOR we once again have crazy new game insanity hype masking the fact the game really doesn't offer anything new other than the fact the game itself is new.

Most gamers have become so desperate for that next game that next fix, that you could rename zork or wasteland, put it in a pretty new box, make some awesome game trailer video that has absolutely nothing to do with real game play and it too would explode on here as some awesome amazing new game with so many cool things we have never seen before..

I really wish people could get themselves under some kind of control as the players themselves are the reason we are in this pile of crap games we are in. As long as this new game insanity continues why should devs bother investing the time and resources into making a quality game.

Dragon nest combat isn't that great unless you want ot feel like your on a tea cup ride with a camra.... the ability to change direction in mid attack makes that combat loss its feel to me. Idk some people like it.

Also you play lineage thats been udpated for years now and your comparing to a game th ats in CBT where it doesn't even offer half the content.

Also what hype? Seriously am i am missing something? This game recieve the most negative comment out of all the games coming out thsi year, what is this invisable hype everyone speak of?

I think that last 2 paragraph should be said toward GW2 not us, most of the people who like this game like it for the combat. No where along the line did we say it has epic qust, i play it for the combat. Personally i have no problem with the current mmorpg forumal, i like it, i just hate the combat. So Tera give me the combat i want hey i'm happy.

Just my view of the game, don't see Tera Online lasting that long at all, much like swtor did.

if you really want a fully detailed character customization,  you can always play  Barbies online (i think tera char creation is great).

as for been generic, welcome to the world of MMO they are all exactly the same, with small variations, differences.  and the combat in tera is tremendously fun, at least for me.

is just your opinion.   you just need to wait for different mmo.   my question is, if you dislike Tera so much why did you even need to come to this forum to let people know about it?   do you somehow think your opinion is so important?  if so you  are deluding yourself

Dude same here, I held back, but I love reviews from people that never got off the island or joined a BAM grp or PvPed.

I got off the island, but i also know that you dont need to get off the island to see how generic the game is, and to see how boring and tyring the combat system is imo.

If the combat is not for my liking then no use in doing group bams, or pvp..because everything in these games is combat.

you get off the island and expect to see a massive tons of content at what level 10?   please get a grip!   i think all of you disgrunted MMO players  should stick playing Skyrim and Mass Effect 3.     it is very obvious  that playing MMO ain't doing it for you anymore.   don't need to keep finding excuses

Actually I think they do have a point. Tera (and potentially TSW) seem to be more MMORPGs than SW:TOR or GW2, yet players will flock in bigger numbers in these two single massively online games. I think people that enjoy games the likes of Tera should be thankful that there are still developers that make them since the current fad seem to be Skyrim in the vicinity of others (not with them, just along with them) or ME in the vicinity of others.

As for the F2P model, this is where the market is going, for good or bad. The P2P model is not dying, it is dead. The handful of MMOs that are still P2P are either converting or have injected a cash shop already and will convert in the near future.

An articile about how group play is out and solo play is in can be found on these forums, has quite the controversy going for it.

So, I tried out the closed beta to this game earlier today before I had to go to work. I played it for a max of 40 minutes before I got bored and uninstalled it.

Folks, games like this and people who think they're any good is exactly why mmos are going to continue to be made like this. This is the same exact crap we've been playing for 8+ years. EIGHT YEARS.

Why do you all fight for this game? Why do you say its so great when the game is the same regurgitated garbage that we've seen since the dawn of time in mmos? This game will fade into a memory of failure just like nearly every mmo before it. It's really sad that any of you can even make any argument to say otherwise.

I'm not for bashing game developers or mmos, but man...come on. Did you even actually play this game, or any other mmo exactly like it the past 8-13 years? Jesus christ, this is such a failure.

I pre-ordered with the intention of playing TERA until GW2 came out. Now on CB3 and I have no interest to play. Judging by the low server populations on just 4 servers, I'm guessing I'm not the only one.

On many technical levels the game is fairly solid. I like the graphics, the world design is ok, character models look nice and the animations are good. However, I hate the fact you can't move while using skills and the static quest hub style of PVE content is killing me. It's 2012, not 2005!

I also hate that each race doesn't have their own starter and low level areas. If you want to reroll to try another class, you have to play the exact same content over again, with out enough redundancy to pick and chose a different path.

I also don't care for the class design. I've tried four classes so far and don't like any of them. I think some would be enjoyable if you could actually move around while using skills, but I guess we'll never know.

I'm sure some players will find a lot to like here. There are some elements that are well made, but for me, personally, I just don't find that the individual parts were assembled into a cohesive whole that represents the kind of game experience I'm looking for after more than a decade playing MMOs.

To summarize: action combat system is really beautiful. Vindictus also has this kind of gameplay, but you really can't compare it. It's way more elaborated. Of couse, questing is shitty. But quests are just the way to the endgame, which will make out the fun. Can't say if the endgame is long-lasting, but it seems to be. (taking a look on some streams of TERA Korea.)

Just cause it only took me 10min to know how I felt. Does not mean I only played for that long.

there are tons of people who love Tera, myself included.  i dont need you or anyone like you telling me, what i should like or dislike.

who the hell do you even think you are?

noone forces you to play the game, you tried a closed beta, and diden't like it, that s fine, more power to you.  but you have no right whatsoever trying to belittle or even tell other people, what we should play or not.

it is people such yourself that is dooming the whole MMO genre overall.     so quit playing MMO, or make your own perfect mmo

I don't know, I'm pretty sure I'll be playing a lot when Tera comes out but I'm also fairly certain that I've seen what I wanted to see from the game, so there is no point in playing a character that will get wiped. I'm not even sure I'll participate in another beta event either, despite liking the game.

  • RenoakuRenoaku Member EpicPosts: 3,157

    1. The game does feel like any other MMORPG I have played in general there is no real unique experience or feeling there, the only MMORPG that I recently played which gave me somewhat of a actual story was SWTOR, but I will not play SWTOR because the development team sucks IMO.

    2. Customization, from what I hear from my friend who was in beta way earlier you can buy and customize armors similar to in Aion, I would not give this customization a big thumbs up however because there are better ways like in Runes OF Magic Wardrobe system allows you to store customizations for your entire account on the same server so why not this game.

    3. Character Recustomization also has not been seen by me either this might be a (Paid Feature) Just like NCsoft in the future and if  so I really am not going to like it.

    4. Otherwise this game looks better than SWTOR all around, I still await to see how good PVP will be, and overall actual game play past level 20+ I have not wasted much of my weekend playing this game because its a waste of time with just two days of the week access and 8 hours a day or something if that then to be wiped again I will wait till release to make my judgement about this game, and actions the company makes.

Currently I would say the following MMO's have a chance in 2012 of becomming popular, and doing great.

    1. TERA

    2. Guild Wars 2

    3. Continent OF The Ninth (C9) > Vindictus & Divine Souls.

    4. League OF Legends

    5. Fallen Earth > IF G1 Makes Changes.

    6. Dark Fall > As it i currently the best Full Loot PVP MMORPG out there/SandBox title.

    7. Fire Fall maybe.

In general I would say these might be the best games of 2012 that I have seen so far, and there have been a lot of fail attempts at copying League OF Legends, but otherwise I wouldn't say anything too remarkable has been done for any MMO community in the last years. After all how many MMORPG based titles have actually been developed in the United States itself in years, not brought over from Japan, or Korea, I would say that the U.S needs more developers badly people who can make a ground breaking MMORPG like World OF Warcraft but more up to date way better action based, and offer a lot that people want/demand.

I personally did not care for TERA but I went in pretty much knowing this.  It is not my genre of game.  I did give it a shot and I was accurate in my assumption for myself.

However, if you like themepark MMO this did seem like a good game.

Of course it is beta, so you get nothing but complainers on there, but just ignore that.

From what I played, the game ran very smoothly for me; the game was not choppy nor laggy.  The combat was pretty fun, kind of reminded me of UO, sort of... not really though.  The game had its problems, but that is why it is in BETA.  Overall, I believe if you like themepark MMO's you will like TERA.  I only got to level 5 not doing quests, so I do not have much I can say about the game, but it seemed like a decent themepark MMO from what I saw.

I too agreed with the OP to an extent, although TBH it wasnt bad but jsut not different enough for my likings.  The combat as engaging as it is felt uneeded and the controls of having to aim, click unecessary keybinds (to go into and out of aim and ui mode).  Call me boring but I prefer traditional tab targetting combat for the most part.

The part I disliked the most though is the cutsey cutsey art direction and the to much flesh showing on characters avatar.  I am sorry but I dont want to be fighting fluffy bunnies, bumble bees and raindeer nor am I an Emo or Metro Sexual individual ( I am all man al lthe time) so the last thing I want to play is an avatar with womanly features and animations and walking around with my bare chest wide open to the world to gawk at.  No offense but that art style isnt for me now will it ever be and it is the primary reason why I detest Asian styled games so much.

I've been playing mostly lancer and priest this weekend, and having a lot of fun. Once you get off the tutorial island, the world opens up a bit more.

Hardest part for me will be deciding on a main class to play at start. The game's quest are fairly generic MMO fare, but the combat, grouping, pvp, and BAMs put it over the top.

i've had way way way more fun playing Tera than the entire timed i was playing Swtor,  and was playing Swtor since beta.

one of the biggest critisims about Tera is the generic questing.  wich i totally agree with everyone who feels that way.

but  questing in a mmo is a means to an end.

no MMO has better questing system than Swtor,  but guess what? you eventually get so bored of it, most people ends up pressing Space bar to skip through the conversations.

it is hard to explain why i find Tera so refreshing and fun,  and is not the combat alone.  i tried several dungeons, did many bam,  and group quests with friends.   the world feels huge, lush and beautiful.  everything just fits and blends in right, from characters to the enviroments.
