On many technical levels the game is fairly solid. I like the graphics, the world design is ok, character models look nice and the animations are good. However, I hate the fact you can't move while using skills and the static quest hub style of PVE content is killing me. It's 2012, not 2005!
I also hate that each race doesn't have their own starter and low level areas. If you want to reroll to try another class, you have to play the exact same content over again, with out enough redundancy to pick and chose a different path.
I also don't care for the class design. I've tried four classes so far and don't like any of them. I think some would be enjoyable if you could actually move around while using skills, but I guess we'll never know.
I'm sure some players will find a lot to like here. There are some elements that are well made, but for me, personally, I just don't find that the individual parts were assembled into a cohesive whole that represents the kind of game experience I'm looking for after more than a decade playing MMOs.

In other words, you don't like the game personally.

I'd say something about the 'rooted' combat but if people don't get how it works by this point i guess there's no point trying to explain it (try playing soul calibur, street fighter or tekken).

It does sound to me like you're not looking for a new mmo but an old mmo... Not to be rude but it sounds like you simply want 'something like wow'.

Last NA beta i played was also not exactly 'dead'. Having to fight for spawns despite the respawn time being so quick told me enough about that. Of cours,e it helps to play at the right time, someone else posted in this thread how the game is dead because the servers had a low population during a beta weekend at 6 am - I wonder whether he actually stopped to think for a minute before posting that ;p

Personally i'm having a lot of fun with the game. However, i will concede that it's a niche game due to the art style and general feel of the game. I very much enjoy the combat because it evokes the feel of fighting and action games to me rather than the spamclickfest of other mmo's - god of war, tekken etc all have 'rooted combat' but i've never heard anyone criticizing them for not being able to move while executing an ability. It feels a lot more tactical than the wow-style gameplay where positional gameplay comes from boss mechanics rather than the combat itself, which feels more tedious than challenging.

I don't expect Tera to top more than 300k subs any time soon, or even ever, but that's more than enough to keep the game alive and supply it with regular updates - 300k subs is $4,5 million a month, mind you. 300 people working for a decent salary is about $1m, server infrastructure and maintenance would probably be $500k, giving more than enough leeway to expand the game using the rest.

This is how EVE got from 50k subs at release to 400k subs now. It may not seem like much when compared to a juggernaut like WoW, however, games can survive, even thrive, with less than 100k subs. Having less than a million subs doesnt mean the game is doomed to die.

    Playing: WF
Played: WoW, GW2, L2, WAR, AoC, DnL (2005), GW, LotRO, EQ2, TOR, CoH (RIP), STO, TSW, TERA, EVE, ESO, BDO
Tried: EQ, UO, AO, EnB, TCoS, Fury, Ryzom, EU, DDO, TR, RF, CO, Aion, VG, DN, Vindictus, AA
