This is their theory... They are probably going to let in 40-50k if that many for this next beta. When 700,000 people see they didn't get in, and see they can get in by pre ordering... Yeah. You know the drill.
Most of the people will buy it just for the beta. And if the game sux, it doesnt matter, since is B2P and you already bought it, Anet and NCsoft Win, Im the only one who thing that something is just not right about the game?, maybe is not that great. ill be there the 10th, to buy it like i did it with ME3 or BF3 after all is a b2p game, but i have a bad feeling about gw2.

Can I ask what turns you off from the game?
For me personally - Im excited because I actually liked the original... but more importantly, If I have to go to a town hub, gather up 10 quests to "go kill 8 rats" and then turn them all in only to see my XP Bar rise about 4 blocks Im going to go insane.
Never will I play a game like that again, so tired of that style.... at least this is new/refreshing, even if the other parts of the game aren't perfect.
Woah, I was hoping for 40-45 dollars. I live in a poor country, I can't even afford the cheapest one right now. Thank god it's just pre-order! Hopefully I can get enough money before launch. But it looks like I need a new graphics card as well... *sighs*
Really tempted to buy the CE... know I shouldn't, but come on!
Only CE I ever bought was for WAR - still got the big book somewhere, kind of cool...
Def. digital purchase or CE straight from Anet though, because screw online retailers like Amazon, and as for the brick+mortor shops - eh, I'd rather go digital. Only ever use brick+mortor stores for console games.
I want as high of a % as possible of the money I spend to go directly to Anet.
So... April 10th, probably means a couple of beta weekends in mid/late April and early May... which means probably release date of 15th.
Which kind of sucks because I'm going to Mexico 13th-17th.

It's not pre-order! Pre-purchase! Not sure if you can cancel it, so be careful, read the fine-print!

screw pre-order, too many ppl do it just to get into beta then cancel later. It B2P so they have to make money on box fee.

"Buyer beware" is still the rule of thumb people, that has never nor will ever change.
They clearly say pre-purchase not pre-order, so probably not refundable. Logical, as the game has no sub fee so they count on box sales to recoup costs.
Don't like the deal?
Feel it is buy 2 beta?
Worried about cash shop items?
No one is forcing you to buy or pre-purchase or play.
You, yes YOU have to objectively decide whether or not the rewards and incentives are worth the financial commitment to a game you probably haven't played yet.
So.... just like every other pre-order/purchase ever.
*squee* RYTLOCK FIGURINE was my first reaction, but I have other figurines for games and...well, I never look at them. They're sitting on my mantle gathering dust, so it's not for me. I think I'm past that extra stuff, at this point in my life, just give me the game. I'll be snatching that digital delux edition though, yessir.

now i feel like a negative creep. For me, this is was another disappointment.
Losing faith in Anet one small step at a time...
ps. is there any downside to prepurchasing digital download version, then cancelling it to get the boxed version instead?
Cash shop? You mean the cosmetic one? No - I have no problems with that at all... as long as they're not selling special potions only available through a cash shop, I dont care how many different cosmetic outifts they sell
Buy2beta made me laugh though.... heheh
I'd MUCH rather this setup compared to Bioware's where you could have preordered the Boxed CE and STILL not get a beta invite.

And thats why im worried about Gw2, is a ¨pre-purchase¨ and not a ¨pre-order¨, even games like ME3 and BF3, as an example, got a preorder and a beta, so if the people didnt like the game that much they just can cancel the pre-order, same deal with SWTOR. But what about if we find in the beta that GW2 is not that great?, maybe Anet and NCsoft are worried about that?. Like i said before, i have a bad feeling about this.

Well.... you have an option. You can simply not pre-order the game and then buy it when it releases or after a free trial.
I think there's plenty of information to figure out if it would be something you'd enjoy. If you are very concerned about it, then don't buy the game and wait until it's more wide-stream a few months down the road.
i pre-ordered GW2 like 2 years ago from Gamestop. On April 10 im going back to gamestop to change my preorder to the one in the middle as well. Seems more balanced. I have no interest in any of the extra stuff from Collectors Edition and standard is kind of meh lol

Star Wars did it.... preorder had no effect on the Beta invites.

This is excellent news. ANet proves themselves to be a great company once again. Haters can hate.
I love how they pre-announced the pre-purchase.
ANet has been teasing me too much lately. First I get that "hey thanks for signing up for beta!" email, now this. Gimme something real ANet !
Are you team Azeroth, team Tyria, or team Jacob?

Hype train -> Reality
The probably downside is that they won't let you cancel it. May make it non refundable.
Oh, I misunderstood it. Thank you.

Situation solved
I don't think there will be as many people not liking the game that were willing to prepurchase it anyway. So i am sure they aren't worried.
