I just pre-ordered my copy in the uk so will be playing the beta weekends before i make up my mind.
Anyone played it already and thinks its sh1t?
Give the reasons please.
I just want an unbiased opinion since im getting in the 'hype' mood.
I played wow on and off for 7 yrs but its boring now and holds no interest.
I tried rift, age of conan, warhammer, SWTOR which all failed to inspire me.
TERA looks promising but so did SWTOR.
The open world is a big draw for me and the pvp. The lush visuals and new combat system too.
Is the game polished like wow?
Please no wow h8ers frothing at the mouth. WOW is but boring for me now but it was very well made and playable.
Bring on the negative tera boys please...i want to hear the other side of the coin.

I've got a beta key from this site for this weekend's beta, was thinking of giving it a try to see for myself what it's like.
My commando on SWTOR is nearing level 50 and I"m already feeling my interest start to drain away. (raid centric, gear grinds are not my idea of fun)

The game is polished but has far less features and content compared to wow, which is understandable as it's a new game. I played one beta weekend and was bored of it off that. Nice combat ruined by the usual go to the ! go to ? That we've played tons of times by now. There's little variety also, in armor looks, weapons to use (each class can only use 1 type of weapon) and mainly, in classes. I mean, there are 4 warrior classes out of the 8.. they do play different in the action combat, but its all due to timings and thats about it. But really it feels like they should have been skill tree routes for just one class. I don't recommend the game to someone who has played a lot of recent MMOs, because you are probably looking for something different and you won't find it here.
Yeah, I got all excited about it until I played the beta. Played for about 4hours and then gave up. Now, I may not have given it a fair chance, but it just didnt hook my attention.
Its like a low quality WoW clone, with hack n slash combat bolted on.
Whilst the combat was different and interesting to start with it soon became repetitive, and everything else was just the same old same old...

I personally really enjoy it
I'm going to roll on Valley of titans this weekend if anyone else wants to guild up or party up at some point.
I'd go into reasons I really like it but you asked for negatives... at least I think so... so I'll only mention the negative things I've noticed.
__
The combat is slow early on, which turns a lot of people off, the controls are very different so it has a bit of a learning curve, and the lack of end game traditional "raiding" might turn some people away.
Edit: Oh and it has quest hubs, which apparently a lot of people are tired of playing games with "quest hub linear design"

There are many reasons why I think these "cons" are out weighed by "pros" but you only asked for cons. So there ya have em.
have you played Aion?
it's pretty much like aion with a hybrid tab/aim targeting system.
no need to get too hyped up. the feel of the game is just a bit too Asian to make it really big in the west. also the combat it'self uses the animation as a global cooldown which makes for a stop-go-stop-go kind of combat.
the majority of western mmo players are used to a much more fluid and free (WoW style) combat and will find Tera's combat too "rooted" and restrictive.
is it flashy? yes. is it shallow? yes. is it fun? for a while. is it the bees knees? not really. just my opinion of course.
It`s so different from WoW that comments like these make me laugh and they lose all credibility. I swear, every game in existence if it has quests is a WoW clone right?
It has no factions, FFA OWPvP, no raids, completely different artstyle, no talent system(instead uses glyphs starting at level 20), is not battleground centric PvP, instead it is mainly player made PvP with group duels for money, GvG and obviously OWPvP and let`s not forget...the combat is completely different.
You can level from level 20-60 just doing group repeatable BAM kill quests, WoW doesn`t have a single enemy outside of dungeon bosses that even resembles BAMs.
The main problem with the game is that level 1-19 are bland, theres nothing challenging or interesting and with that many people lose interest and then give the game a much worse review than I think it personally deserves, just about every person in a good guild that has gotten to a decent level on the PvP servers adores this game from my experience, I personally love it as well, but to each their own I guess.
People also fail to give the combat a chance, complaining it is far too stop and go, well, the combat grows on you as you play more and obviously gets a lot better as you get more moves and they start to chain into one another, some glyphs help this further by resetting cooldowns, increasing movement speed or allowing you to charge attacks while moving.
I dont see why people compare the game to Aion. I get so bored with Aion it's insane.
The only comparisons are: 1) stigmas/glyphs 2) you can chain attacks (but in TERA you can choose the chains) 3) art style (TERA is way way more pretty though, which is to be expected given aion's age)
They compare them cause they are both Korean AAA titles.
Also, the chaining attacks can be changed in Aion cause certain chains have branching paths that can be changed. Even so, TERA's "chain" system is nothing more then a glorified macro button.
I got a full refund already game was so boring wasnt even funny! DULLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL. Only thing i can think of made me turn my wow acct on after 1 year of not playing sigh
I agree with the chain system being their version of a macro assistance program. Is that really so bad?
The game doesn't have macros so it sorta needs something in its stead, which it does have.
I never really liked Aion's chain system because sometimes you'd want to just use one of the middle abilities or an ability that only had a 10% chance to proc and be able to be used... it just seemed like it further limited what you could do.
There I go again being positive, curses.
Oh? What level did you get to?
What did you not like about it that made it dull?
When you only say Dull with about 20 extra L's it doesn't tell us anything.
Please provide at least some details.
Depends on the type of gamer you are. I dislike Wow and never understood its appeal, but to each his own. But I tend to like the korean MMOs more than the West.
With that said, I like TERA, was in the first BETA back in February and now in the second BETA this weekend. I left off at around level 12. Looking forward to pick back up.
Pros:
- Looks great
- Love the combat (refreshing move from the tab/hotkey combat and introduces skill - many times took down monsters stronger than me)
- Story was interseting
- Nice 'events' (i.e. - one mission I had to protect a girl on a bridge from waves of enemies, nice switch up from normal questing)
- Exploration (world invites exploration to me)
- Instanced Events (?) - Not sure if it was a dungeon or event, but had to fight this large monster early in the game. With the action combat made the fight fun.
Cons:
- Guess its the same old quest mechanic (but it works for me)
- Has sub (debating if I want to pay *another* 15/month to play - wish it was cash shop like GW2 :-)
Though mechanics are the same we are used to, the introduction of the action-, skill-based combat opens up another level of gameplay that (to me) is fun to play through. Definitely the future of MMOs in my opinion. hotkey/tab target is dead.
the Art style is very similar, the combat animations are very similar, the cute little animals all over the place, the quest givers, the majority of NPCs, even a lot of the sounds are similar.
sure, Tera is graphically superior to Aion and it does do things a bit different (mainly the combat) but after having played Aion for about 5 months, the first 10 minutes into Tera (played KTera for 1 month) i could definately see the resemblence.
It's not the fact that the chain system being a gorified macro system is bad. It's the fact that people act like it's something new when it's not. Which is something a lot of people do when talking about TERA is treating like the features are new or exciting when they are just overhyping them for the most part. The political system is the main feature people overhype since probably 95% of the people on here if not more have no idea what it even entails other then what EME has told them.
I don't blame those that only take a few hours to play and say it's nothing special, they're only reporting on what they know or cared to notice. I would ask this: Take the best MMO you've ever played, tell someone who has never played it before and tell me they'll understand what makes it great in 4, 6 or even a whole weekend.
Just not worth my time anymore.
Just noting that 12 levels is hardly enough to judge this game on, especially since your opinion is obviously bias with only 2 cons.
Just not worth my time anymore.
Well Sector the combos when used properly and after specific moves can increase attack speeds or allow you to hit more often. It`s not just a simple way of doing another attack using a different button than you normally would.
It`s not just a `glorified macro system` because it actually changes how some moves work.
These are games right? *boggle*
Just not worth my time anymore.
I'm glad I didn't list off my Pros then...
So you are saying if a list has more pros than cons the list is Bias?
There is no way the thing that is being listed could have more pro's than cons?
How exactly do you "weigh" pros and cons then? Or are all lists bias?
Personally I think this game is socks; slightly dirty, slightly smelly socks.
Pants is an english expression which means, as he sorta stated, "crap"
Just not worth my time anymore.
Combat has been done better in other games. Open world isn't a feature, it's common and Aion had the game group content.
I still at post where people just say the game suck w/o any reason even though the OP specificly asked for reasons -.-
@OP It depends on the type of gamer you are. Do you perfer more old school mmorpg or new mmorpg? The bases structure of Tera is framed around old school mmorpg with action combat. You go from quest to quest to lvl it fairly linear at the start does open up a bit more half way through. In the older games quest are means to an end, heck most older game are almost pure grind so Tera is lot easier in term of lvling compare to them. Also its factionless and open world PvP, so it focs on player created content. End game content wise Tera focs on 5-man raid and rest is all player "made" content through political system and open world pvp.
Newer games type like WoW, all its clones, rift, swtor, and (maybe gw2? idk what we put gw2 under really till we see it) But they focus a lot more none linear path ways (aka mutli starting zone multi lvling zones) fast pace lvling, faction based pvp, and kinda arena heavy and end game focus on 20ish man raids.
To some people they say Tera quest sucks and crafting is just a money sink, and seriously these are really the only 2 legit fault with the game from a design prospective (not personal taste) (o ya also pvp lvl scale need fixing but its a nonissue once your cap) to me its not an issue. I personally came from monster grind center games where having quest is nice. So i personally have no problem with linear quest because i don't give a damn about it, its only a means to an end. and crafting its meh. So if you like the older type of game and really don't give a damn about linear quest Tera will be fun for you but if you care a lot of about quests and how they are well i really won't suggest you play mmorpg, coz playing mmorpg for quest is idk meh coz its always going to be subpar compare to single player.
That would be a personal choice, to me Tera combat beats all the current mmorpgs including DN and Vindictus and to others it don't.
