For a good, vibrant living world, with frequent events organised both by players and in-game GMs, without any form of cash shop or item mall, no question, I would happily pay more than the "standard" $15/month fare.

I've always wondered why no developer ever tried something like "premium" servers.

yes...NIGHTLY events and not just 'double your xp' but unique material that you will not see again kind of thing. Which to be honest could be far cheaper than people think. Just a few GM's spawning crazy stuff from the art department, done.

But yes more than just that would be required to justify the cost

This is the cost of a cell phone bill without a data plan.

I pay $8.33 a month for my phone use ($100/year).

    disagree completely!

    1. at least for me its actually more fun then going out.

    2. going out for me is more like $9600 a year but I stopped that insanity

I would pay that much for a Cyberpunk 2020 MMORPG, something like Deus EX:Human Revolution Online, with huge cities, corps, a total Hacking game like in Neuromancer... I think Im making myself clear here, don't?

I would think any developer company that reads MMORPG threads for about a day would be wise to go out and buy UO license off the shelf, put a new coat of paint on it and release it.

50 dollars for a months entertaiment is cheap..A Whole month !! Sure If you have a life, you wont be able to play all the time, but it's still VERY cheap entertaiment..

You buy a game for 30-50 dollars that lasts all from 5 hours to 40 Hours..(Singleplayer games) and thats it with those games most of the time...

So..If I buy a game that Initially costs 50 and 50 every month, that would still mean cheap entertainment because If I'm having a good time in this game, I will NOT have the time to play any other game..

It costs 10-15 dollars to see a movie or buy a a beer or 2...

Unless it involves electronic signals piped directly into my brain through a wetware uplink, not a chance.  If so, I'd pay a hell of a lot more than $50 a month for it.

Do anyone of you guys do anything other than MMO and going out drinking? Because clearly that's the only form of entertainment being used here.

I have to agree with the hooker comments here or virutal gratification type mmorpg. Sure if you could input a pic of your high school crush and make a female avatar and go in and do her, then yeah I would.

Outside of that maybe a game where I literally could become a Elf and kills Rifts. VR Rift :O

    Nah, I don't think so.

There might be theoretical a game that is so fascinating that I'd pay that much (though I don't see something coming like that within the next decade), but I don't think any of my buddies would pay that, and gaming without them would suck.

Let's play Fallen Earth (blind, 300 episodes)

Let's play Guild Wars 2 (blind, 45 episodes)

It's cheaper than renting a plain white van and buying duck tape, cable ties and a spade

To put it as blunt as possible, it would have to be perfect and everchanging to warrant that price.  All of the cliche reasons as to why game A and game B is struggling will be thrown out the door.

I would love for a dev to get the courage to do something like this.  You best bring your A game though.

Yep I run and train almost everyday for marathons.

GM Pathfinder on the weekends after my runs.

Also, GM Pathfinder games online during the week using Fantasy Ground II.

    Movies sometimes.

    Drinking I do not do.
