Graphics look already outdated

makiimakii Member Posts: 280

While i enjoyed GW 1 from the beginning and back then GW 1 had above average Graphics, GW2 doesnt seem to bring that promise.

The Graphics in GW2 seem like a updated version of GW1. Looks like they use GW 1.5 engine now.

I ve watched alot of gameplay vids and looked at the screenshot,  and feel kinda dissapointed in thar affair.

While its a game that will come out, it brings graphics from 2007. It seems like almost like this new Star Wars mmorpg.

Low polygon and the background uses a filter with that smoke effect to reduce server lag.

Im kinda dissapointed in that.

How do you guys feel about that?

i chosed some Mmorpgs that live up the standards:

Blade and Soul

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qN_1oaa_4TU

Archage (most awesome vid ever seen)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kr2G7C1jm0I&feature=player_embedded#!

Core Blaze

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vv3vlHySti4&feature=relmfu

RaiderZ (with the new updated graphics)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3qsI6AAcHL8

Aion 3.0

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8WtzP-y-Ua8

Comparisation: Guild Wars 1 and Guildwars 2

GW1

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ruq74jQsdsc

GW2

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G4meuCo7ZvE&feature=related

Notice: While it seems like a huge improvment to Guild Wars 2, the threes and rendering distance is almost as bad as in GW 1.

Difficult to say atm. Not sure what graphics settings the players were using in the videos I've seen so far. For example, the UI preview vid showed that the writer was using Best Performance setting. That is about lowest graphics quality you can chose. Oh and then there is the vid quality itself.

Yeah i have been watching totalbiscuits latest video and graphics seem avergae to me. Even he commented that graphics haven't changed much since last beta and there are still lots of things to polish in terms of looks. But that is what beta is for. However, i hardly doubt that graphics will dramaticaly change on release.

But damn those dynamic events were fun and i can look past the average graphics. This is the video i am talking about.

I dont think it will look bad, and ofcourse it will look better when you play it yourself on your computer..

Don't feel disappointed already please. Once you're in Tyria you will be flooded with the same feeling you got from exploring Tyria in GW1. It "feels" the same, and even though the graphical fidelity is not up to CryEngine3 or UE3 levels the art direction really carry the game. It's gor-geous.

You won't be disappointed, I promise.

I just saw the UI video here on MMORPG and thought the graphics looked amazing. The only thing slightly off about GW2 in the visual area is the movement animations to me.

TBH, I always thought that the graphics and art were one of the highest points of GW2, so I'm surprised to see this topic.  But I guess to each his own.  I am curious though, OP, what MMORPG do you think has better graphics than GW2?

Are you team Azeroth, team Tyria, or team Jacob?

Yea kind of what I was thinking.  Besides Archage, its probably the prettiest mmorpg I've seen.  And the artistic crafting of the world itself is absolutely beautiful.

WoW is still way and beyond the most successful mmo of all time, and yet we're complaining about the graphics in GW2 of all things.  Which makes WoW look similar to what I saw my dog lay down on the lawn this morning.

And comparing it to Swtor?  http://youtubedoubler.com/?video1=B2UgLoxbeU8&start1=1650&video2=Vmk4onieEiM&start2=0&authorName=meahwahwah

The game looks fine, and I'd hardly call the graphics outdated, especially since GW2 has its own visual style which their art team has put a lot of effort into.

What exactly are you comparing GW2 to, though?

If we are sticking within the MMO Genre, let us compare it with, say ArcheAge...

With Guild Wars 2 for Comparison...

I chose two similar pictures for a reason, because at a glance they both look to be from the same game, yet their style are very different.

It it all depends on which appeals you more.

But from a practical stand point, MMO's use lower graphics in general, so as to make their product more available by letting lower end machines run it.

I am sure there will be plenty of Video options for those that have a computer capable of proccessing them.

Go look at WoW's MoP video on this site.  Then you'll know what outdated really looks like.  Not to say its impossible to enjoy a game with outdated graphics, but really?

Ive got several concerns about GW2 which im not going to go into here, but I have always thought the graphics are pretty damn impressive! No complaints on that front here

    i agree

even if better graphics are desired -- the fun of gameplay is my 1st priority

I would say worse than aion but better than rift.

I think that's a good place to be for a 2012 game, especially with how low the system requirements are.

I think the AA looks better in those pics, but I have seen others where I would go the other way. I think the graphics on GW2 look fine.

As far as i can tell. That GW 2 photo seems photoshoped. Gameplay vids show the direct opposite. They  world lacks in crisp detail but is more like brushed to hide the fact GW2 is very detailless. It can be that the personal story instance uses higher textues though, because the outside world looks pretty flat.

Graphics look fine, especially when maxed.

You don't want TSW graphics or AoC graphics because remember this game is geared towards PvP/WvW for the most part. That's not gonna fly with super duper graphics. People say TERA has amazing graphics, while they look good they just look shiny to me.

I have to laugh when people watch a vid in 480 or from someone with low graphics settings.

Just look at the first 30 seconds and it ends the whole graphics look dated discussion.

Good you are laughing but beauty is in eye of beholder..not everyone is going to agree that GW2 looks amazing. Thanks for the video though..i love the gameplay but i think in graphics department GW2 is just ok.

  • TamanousTamanous Member RarePosts: 3,030

Wow. I'm not on the whole GW2 bandwagon like most but is the OP serious?

You do not compare screens where one has advanced lighting turned on with one that does not. Games in developement often do not have all their graphics options turned or even available to be turned on in the client. High res textures are also often not even available. Video releases by developers are specially created with all options temporarily turned on in a very controlled, closed setting in order to make the videos. You can only compare gameplay videos, at the same resolution with the same settings and I doubt any person has been able to confirm such comparisons.

Despite this possible handicap for GW2 it still looks amazing. It also has one hell of a long way to go to be ready for release.

    You stay sassy!

Well then maybe you are just not liking the aesthetics. Which is way more important than graphics. Like WoW graphics are ok with me, but the games aesthetics are cartoonish and silly from my veiw.

Some of the best graphical games can look ridiculous if the asthetics are not well done.

This explains my point better than I ever could.
