Lemme guess.....you always play a necromancer

    Do games have other classes?

    HOWEVER

For GW2 mesmer all the way.

    "Loading screens" are not "instances".

Retention is a major issue for pretty much every sub-based MMO. The market is becoming more saturated with product offerings ranging from F2P to B2P to subscription-based, with pretty much all of them having some verson of cash shops. The question is what keeps people playing and does any particular game have those elements. Is it graphics, art direction, storyline, engaging leveling, end-game content, social interactions, dailies? I'm sure there are rather smart people out there sitting on a ton of data to help sort through this.

Based on what I've seen I think this game has minimally six months staying power for most players. Of course some people are going to be bored earlier than this, especially if they buy this game thinking it is something that it is not or if they sit down and treat it like any grindy MMO and try to get to max level in 5 days. But at this point, any prediction is at best an educated guess and at worst something done by a person with their own agenda.

Great comment. I agree with most of it, particularly the aspects of what makes a player engage and more importantly come back. I think its a multitude of different things, each different for each person making predictability hard if not impossible at best.  I dont know if I agree with six months, even though I think thats a long time.  I got bored with SWTOR after 30 days.  But what I will say is this game has more 'return' power, meaning I will opt to re-visit this more than anything else I'm currently playing.  And that says alot.

This has a few things going for it, that others lack to me.  It has visceral combat, more than adequate exploration, and a barely visible learning curve that gives fexbility of the challenge you want to experience.  Of course you can 'button mash' your way through, like a typical MMO which some people charge.  But learn how to switch and use your skills and now the game (potentially) changes depending on what you view when you play.  For me, it adds a layer of complexity in a world that looks fun to run around in.  That, with the promise of actual changes and expansions, and I can see myself returning fairly frequently.

Regardless of how I may feel, this is definitely something different, new and refreshing. I cant wait to experience the beta.

With the exception of a couple of things (where that dirt touches the wall on the left, the look of the dirt and the lack of anti-aliasing), that is a pretty awesome screenshot.

There textures look amazing on the up close stuff and the drainage coming down the wall has an excellent effect. I also like the scale of it. That little person standing down at the bottom gives a real sense of scale. The shadows also give the scene a great sense of depth.

They need to give a raise to their texture people, because they are priceless. But just the design layouts in this game seem to be done by true professionals.

Well, it depends on what you want.

Take SWTOR. In this comparision I like the graphics of GW2 much more, simply because they are lush and detailled. Houses and stairs have patinam, wood looks wooden, cloth like cloth, all the many details. I think if you compare the visuals of GW2 with SWTOR or some other recent MMOs, you can see that GW2 looks much better. Maybe it is not like a super high end shooter or single player game, but it is supposed to have many people at the same time in large, detailled environment. I always felt the GW2 world looks like a really beautiful painting. GW2 graphics has much more soul and atmosphere. Graphics are not merely a question of polygon numbers, but of design, placement, colour palettes asf. and I think in these terms GW2 looks way better and has more "soul" than most other titles you mention.

So I like the GW2 visuals a lot.

From what I've seen the world looks amazing, especially since they have always said they would be making this game for middle of the road systems.

Not sure if anyone has mentioned this, but the GW 2 Beta's have been running off of Direct X 9.  I'm pretty confident the graphics will be even better come release when we will hopefully have DX10 and 11 support.
