Graphics look already outdated

  • Honestly I don't really care.   I don't need better graphics than GW1.

They have excellent artists and art direction.  Some places in GW1 were just great.

Past a certain point, especially in MMOs, the art contributes far more than the graphics.

Don't feel disappointed already please. Once you're in Tyria you will be flooded with the same feeling you got from exploring Tyria in GW1. It "feels" the same, and even though the graphical fidelity is not up to CryEngine3 or UE3 levels the art direction really carry the game. It's gor-geous.

You won't be disappointed, I promise.

CryEngine3 is a masterpiece designed to make Dx11 games and smooth realistic images.

Unreal Engine 3 is a Dx10 engine that makes big giant blocky cartoonish looking guys.

Grouping these two engines together is a crime punishable by turnip tossing.

I think the Tera graphics are great, their art style isn't my thing at all though.

I love the art direction for GW2, games don't need to be realistic or have the greatest graphics to be beautiful, it's the art direction that counts and Anet have an astounding art team with a strong focused concept, they had that with GW and with an improved engine they've taken it up a notch or twelve, works for me.

Not only is the art design phenominal, but there is nothing outdated about the game engine graphics. Polygon counts and texture quality are all excellent and the game still manages to offer a plethora of character creation options and armor/weapon styles.

I think the problem with everyone is that GW2 like Soul&Blade/Tera and other few MMOs does not offer Boob mechanics hence  its not "realistic enough".

Its just not the same when that jiggle is not available @ launch or ever.

GW2 looks absolutely amazing, both graphically, and artistically.  You are living in a dream world if you look at some of the beta footage and tell me the graphics don't look great.

This is the way i slice it when it comes to Tera and GW2 graphics.

Tera is shiny, gorgeous, and has a high polygon count, so it look fantastic on high end machines, but shitty on low end machines.

GW2 is artistic, gorgeous, and has a low polygon count so it looks great on high end machines, and good on low end machines.

I'd rather go with the artistic design personally.

Yeah, maybe they should have done likeLineage 2 and put the focus on that particular mechanic instead.

Seriously, the game looks fine enough for a  MMO. Tera do look better if you just look on the graphics, art wise things are different but the higher the graphics are the higher the reqs get and there are already enough people here whining that they can't run it.

You must make a trade off somewhere between graphics and performance.

I dont get what we are debating here.  If you feel the graphics are bad... what?  Your not going to play?

Second, the graphics are not going to be super high-end because ArenaNET wants the largest player base it can support.

Third, graphics dont make the game and GW2 Art Style is phenomenal.

Just the title of this thread ALONE made me laugh.  Don't like the graphics?  Don't play.  Like anyone is really going to care.  Give me a break.  The number of these "kind" of posts is just hysterically funny.  Do you think we're all complete morons?

Has the OP returned to this thread, by any chance, to answer any of the responses?  I didn't bother to wade through all thousand pages to see, but somehow.....I doubt it.

The same people who think that's a necessary mechanic are probably the same people who think there's nothing unrealistic about boobs jiggling through plate mail.

Graphics for this game look absoutely horrible and outdated IMO

I agree with the OP 100%

As in all video games (pc, mac, console), as soon as development begins its graphics become "outdated"

  • BeansnBreadBeansnBread Member EpicPosts: 7,254

    Looks good to me.

  • jacklojacklo Member Posts: 570

Jeez, I don't know what people are comparing it to but the graphics are top notch. It's not photo-realistic by any means but it's certainly up there with the best of current mmo graphics.

The only one of the OP's videos worth a second look was Blade & Soul.

What are you looking for? What exactly is missing?

I think the graphics are freaking awesome, its just I think if you look at what people are comparing it to , seems like they just want to see anime style graphics.

Truth be told if you look at he environment of B&S and tera its pretty dull, like the grass lol its just one green color trees + plants just horrible, Oh and lol in the starter area I was blocked by a twig off to the side and had to go around could not even jump over it, this happened quite a few times.

This guy right here, IS A GENIUS!

See without his informative service about GW2 which he played so much of, I would never made any decisions on the purchase, because truth be told his opinions are genuine and always un-biased. He know everything and sometimes more than devs, like the outcome of GW2, and yes we all know its a failure to begin with.

So let me say LISTEN TO THIS PERSON.

I said this months ago.... Game is gonna only be good for a few months then be left with the loyal fan base, majority will move on relatively quick.

If it's only good for a 'few months' at least you're not paying a sub and can go back to it at your leisure.

30 days is all I got from SWTOR but stupidly subbed for the following month and could hardly bring myself to play.

When you talk about graphics though, SWTOR is surely the worst performing game ever, considering the poly count, textures and shading.

I agree.  Also it's the only people I would want to play with! :)

I wish they would drop the nda already, all i'm gonna say is the graphics are certainly NOT outdated, some of the best i've seen in an mmo.

It's impossible to accurately judge graphical quality looking at screens and videos and i would of thought people would realise this by now, any video you see is subjective to that persons specs, the rendering quality of the video etc. Of course you can get an 'idea' of the quality but playing and experiencing the game is the only way to really get a feel for them.

I am no fanboy, in fact I had no interest in GW2 at all until recently, but threads like this are just asking for trouble, but hey there is always going to be hate even if the game shipped with a lump of gold and a bag of diamonds people would still hate.

If you repeat the same statement enough times on enough forum threads does it become true?

Retention is a major issue for pretty much every sub-based MMO. The market is becoming more saturated with product offerings ranging from F2P to B2P to subscription-based, with pretty much all of them having some verson of cash shops. The question is what keeps people playing and does any particular game have those elements. Is it graphics, art direction, storyline, engaging leveling, end-game content, social interactions, dailies? I'm sure there are rather smart people out there sitting on a ton of data to help sort through this.

Based on what I've seen I think this game has minimally six months staying power for most players. Of course some people are going to be bored earlier than this, especially if they buy this game thinking it is something that it is not or if they sit down and treat it like any grindy MMO and try to get to max level in 5 days. But at this point, any prediction is at best an educated guess and at worst something done by a person with their own agenda.

    "Loading screens" are not "instances".
Your personal efforts to troll any game will not, in fact, impact the success or failure of said game.
