Its fun how a certain group of people allways visits the forums of the next big AAA MMO to be released, and spreads their negativism. Mostly not based on game facts but on emotions. Good to know that any really good game will actually do good despte their attempts to chase away potential customers. Its obvious that the Negativism has landed on the GW2 boards after SWTOR has been released. To the neutral visitors, please base your opinion on the facts we know about GW2 combined with your own gaming needs

Yes, because someone saying something negative about the game you're waiting for is a sure sign of a conspiracy to piss on your game. Good call.
I just think the scare-mongering gets old quickly.
MMO's played: Ragnarok Online (For years), WoW (for a few weeks only), Guild Wars, Lineage 2, Eve, Allods, Shattered Galaxy, 9 Dragons, City of Heroes, City of Villains, Star Trek Online (Got someone ELSE to pay for it), Champions Online (Someone else paid), Dofus, Dragonica, LOTRO, DDO and more... A LOT more. I've played good AND bad. The bad didn't last long. :P
he says negativity for those ppl is based on emotion, not facts. I played SWTOR before stating how cheesy the game was. People mostly have no idea when they whine about games like swtor gw2 etc.
Over 6 posts and no Cash Shop wars yet, trolls must be slipping today.
I'm not sure if alot of the negativity I see posted about GW2 is based on the game itself, or due to the massive amount of "GW2 will change the face of MMO's as we know" it posts.
I am eager to see GW2. I think alot of the mechanics and ideas they have will definitely make for a unique and enjoyable experience. The overinflated hype though just makes you want to bring someone down to reality. I try to ignore it and not post on it as much as I can, unless a poke in good natured fun (i.e the "Describe a game with one picture thread and posts of Jesus for GW2 ((LMFAO)) ).
I noticed alot of what you talk about with the SWTOR thread as well. The people who over hyped it to be the Jesus of MMOs were dissapointed and then bash anyone who didnt fall into the hype trap and enjoyed it for what it was.
So many AAA MMOs havent lived up to the hype as of late that people are starting to assume the trend is going to continue, so they continue voicing their continued dissatisfaction.
I wouldn't call this viral marketting, but more of a smear campaign tbh. Viral marketting is a method of creating buzz. What we have here is a board full of (mostly newer) posters who do nothing but bash the game all day.
And, for the hundredth time, saying something bad against a game is one thing (if it's valid). Broadly spreading false claims & information is something else entirely. A lot of what's being passed off on these boards as 'criticism' is missinformed flaming of this game.
For those that are legitimately interesting in this game, and are still caught up in all the flames, open your eyes a bit & do some research (it's really not that hard to find).
There's pleanty of posts that will point you to places like:

Accurate info on this game really isn't that tough to find. This is one of the reasons why it's all the more frustrating that people continue to make false claims against this game. And for what? Can you really think of another MMO that had this degree of attacks on it prior to launch? This game has repeatedly been attacked (primarily with false info) for almost 6 months straight now. Most of the threads have been locked, but it just doesn't seem to stop the tidal wave of negative thread posts.
It would be one thing if they were based off of accurate info we've seen on the game (like the comment of the world bosses not moving much), but instead we have thread after thread of 'gw2 is the worst game ever and here's why! No, I've never played it, but here are the facts!'
I can't think of any other game where that would be 'okay', but for some reasons GW2 is the favorite demon of the average forum poster on these boards. What's more is it's seaping into other games. Games that really shouldn't be giving a crap about this game to begin with. It's the type of reaction you'd expect from someone who's been personally wronged in a horrible way, and yet none of these people have actually played the game!
- What I want to know is, why are these threads (many of which contain obvious trolling, flaming) being allowed to go on for so long. The longer this goes on the more it seems like the rules of these forums are tipping in favor of the trolls. We (again for the 100th time) have valid threads discussing complaints, concerns, or wanted features for this game. And yet none of those are blowing up the forums. It's always the 'gw2 is the worste MMO ever made' threads that get perpetuated. I really don't see how this is magically 'okay' for this game, but not for any other.
it has to turn around at some point
"I am not a robot. I am a unicorn."

the haters dwell in MMO forums, they are in every single game, talking crap and spewing their poisong day and night.
they have 0 credibility and their main goal is chase away anyone who shows interest in the game.
they hate anyone who speaks positively or like the game.
this is why i never listen nor believe anyone from this forums. try the game and judge for yourself. a MMO should be able providing entertainment. if it manages to do that, then it's main goal should be acomplished.
Fanboism encourages negativism. Negativism encourages fanboism. The universe abhors imbalance.
"I think, therefore I am."
Fanboys and alike cannot think for themselves and can only follow others so this "negativism" you are talking about is simply free thinking individuals who are not afraid to speak up.

You know, I used to think that's what it was, but the facts just don't seem to support that. Games that are literally the same exact crap get praised, while the ones actually bringing something new (and meaningful) tend to get either swept under the rug or flamed.
FFXIV (while it had a lot of negative feedback) got outshouted by fans to the point of absurdity. (many are still defending the game)
Same with SWTOR
Tera offers a new type of combat, but nothing else is really different. It's very much the same old MMO, with combat taken from some of the more action-oriented MMOs out there (most of which are F2P). And yet, noone gives a crap about that. It's all 'look! you can dodge and block and combo attacks! this is the best thing since sliced bread!'
SW remains to be seen, but this is a game made by one of the most notorious MMO developers (who have a reputation to back it up), and yet... this again is seen as 'going to be an awesome MMO'.
There's a trend here, and it makes no sense at all. Games that have legitimate reasons to be concerned about are being praised as 'great games', where others are basically getting ignored or flamed for idiotic reasons. If people were more interested in another game than GW2, we wouldn't be seeing a 10th of the negativity as we've been seeing for the passed 6 months or so. However, people are excited about this game, and so it's now magically okay to spread the word that this is somehow the worste game ever created, with no real info / proof to back it up.
Hell, the first game didn't get much flaming until AFTER it become really popular.
Notice we don't hear much about Planetside 2, we don't even hear much about Archage.
Oh please. If I don't like a game, or anything for that matter, I have every right to say so. It is fanboys who have zero credibility because they are incapable to of having any opinions of their own.
Nice little world you have created for your self though. "they hate anyone who speaks positively or like the game" LOL

Id say theyre assuming correctly, I cant think of an AAA MMO since WoW that actually exceeded expectations. AION, WAR, SWTOR, AoC, etc etc. Id say falling short of the hype is a constant in the industry as of late. With all the "meh" games out there that people arent playing, the more time people have to complain.

I think sir, your distaste for "trolls" is illiciting the same emotional response you seem so quick to rail against. If you werent feeling some emotion, I doubt youd bother to even post on this. A logical mind would realize complaining here changes nothing therefore its a waste of time. But youre still here arent ya?
Speak up about what? exactly. None of these people have any actual experience with the game. You can literally say anything about this game atm, and as long as it's not 'this is a fun game' people think it's true. There's more than enough info out there for people to make up their own minds on the game. Anet has made these extremely easy on us. And yet very few of the people on these boards are taking advantage of it. That's not thinking for yourself, that's negativism.
Here's some examples:
'I don't like how they have time saving items in the cash shop' - Valid concern (arguably)
'The game looks to be pretty laggy atm' - Valid concern
'GW2 is horrible because you just press buttons' - Negativity. Not a valid concern
'The game looks exactly like WoW' - Again, negativity and not valid (on so many lvls in makes my brain hurt)
Key difference? Free thinking is great, if you are contributing constructively to the game. Key word being 'constructive'. Being a 'free thinker' doesn't mean your an intelligent one, though. Someone could make a thread stating 'GW2 is a copy of Pandera' and could still be 'thinking for themselves', however they would be a dumbass.
I don't know how many times this needs to be said, but there ARE threads with legitimate concerns of the game. Furthermore they aren't locked (last I checked), and the GW2 community seems open to them. Why? Because they aren't spewing nonsense, they are raising legitimate issues. However, these threads tend to largely get ignored by these 'free thinkers' you mention, in favor of a neverending rotation of strawmen & hate threads.
If half of these posters are as legitimately concerned as they say they are, then why do nearly all of them ignore any constructive / intelligent posts in favor of ones that are nothing but flaming?
@aesperus Im not convinced that companies dont in fact like the drama between fanbois and trolls. Look how much attention that particular fight drummed up for Darkfall for example. Like they say, bad PR is better than no PR.
A LOT of flaming on this site would disappear if they simply removed the "Current Forum Activity" feature on the main page.
I get where your coming from, but 'Viral' is a pretty neutral word tbh.. it really just refers to how the information is spread, not whether it is positive or negative.
'Creative marketing' has killed what little value the internet has in regards to stranger's opinions about anything, I don't believe a word anyone says unless I know them personally out here anymore, and haven't for a long time. I have even stopped coming to the GW2 forum for the most part because it is so obvious that the smear shills are in full effect. Between them and the outright trolls there isn't a lot of value to be had.
You don't go up against EA when it comes to this... they are the viral smear pros.
I know I like the look of GW2, I know it's design/ play philosophies appeal to me, I know I will be pre ordering. Thats about as much as I care about this game now before I get in to the beta. If people want to be negative, let' em. I'll be over here playing something else until the game gets here.
Actually he is spot on, all the flaming and trolling started about 1 month after TOR's release. What we have here is a bunch of pissed off gamers looking to ruin other peoples day.
On one side its funny as hell, but its equally sad and pathetic.
