Im sorry, did aion fail? last time i checked it was number 1 in korea.. still is, and tera isnt beating Aion in korea.
But then again, the devs didnt hit every facet of Aion with the casual nerf bat the way en masse did, so maybe it will be a hit here. since most western players seem to like easier games.
3/10 on attempt to troll ^^
Western games aren't so much "easier" as they tend to be MUCH less supportive of ganking and griefing than many popular Asian games tend to be. Aion didn't do all that well in the western markets, because NCsoft still to this day hasn't learned the difference between the western and Asian markets.
Tera looks like its going to be quite entertaining. But what makes it appeal to the western markets, may be one of the factors involved in its lesser appeal in the Asian markets.
i really dont think TERA will be any kind of hit. while its combat is an improvement over WoW's for example, the rest of the game (questing, pvp, class design, etc.) is mediocre if not subpar in some ways.
It's not necessarily the game's fault, though I do see Tera being wildly popular a few years back when its type of questing was more accepted. Otherwise, the timing is just bad. Two widely anticipated MMOs are coming out shortly after / around the same time.
Sadly the game cannot be a hit, and thats because the majority of people who play subscription MMOs are a bunch of xenophobic kids.
I personally love the art style and find the game very good but it will follow Aions route in the west, 2-3 years after release it will become ftp and before that it would have had a niche audience of prob around 200-500k people.
Sad really, the game has a lot of potential.
Has nothing to do with Xenophobia, so dont make assertions you cant back up. Some prefer Sci-Fi, some prefer Eastern, some prefer Comic style and others including me prefer Mideval High Fantasy. Something more gritty, more realistic something silimar to Lord of the Rings or Advanced Dungeons & Dragons. I dislike Final Fantasy and Phantasy Star style Asian art, not personal but personal prference.
Nothing to back it up? ROFL how about the years and years i have been the victim of americans being xenophobic towards me when im playing, and how about all the hundreds of people that use the word "weaboo" for anything asian related.
Im sorry but you are so delusional its not even funny. The USA is a very xenophobic country and thats known by almost anyone outside of it. Its very hard to introduce a foreign culture into it, specially since a great deal of people worship their flag like a god and deem everything else inferior.
At least this is the image that the USA has shown to me and a lot of other foreigner gamers.

GW2 is F2P once you buy it. It is a better game overall IMO and no monthly fee makes it a guaranteed success over TERA.
Aion is now F2P and you don't even need to buy the game either. It might be a little older, but for free I don't see many people choosing TERA over it in the long run.
SWTOR has its fans because of the franchise it was made after. Doubt TERA could have a bigger cult following.
Diablo 3 is coming soon, it is not an MMORPG as these games, but it is still an RPG and no monthly fee, also has a huge following, don't see many at all choosing TERA over D3.

Not on the PvE servers. Which is all I really care about.
I preordered this game and had high hopes for it,after 2 beta weekends I asked Enmasse for a refund and they obliged.
To me the combat system isn't that great as I really dislike the action rpg feel to it.Now many may say well why didn't you read up on the fact that it's an action rpg?I did and I just don't like the fighting mechanics.I've played other action type mmo's in the past with a different feel and style to the mechanics.
Now I'm not saying it's a bad game,it just isn't for me and I honestly think that with GW2 coming out Tera will fall into the oblivion for many.I've read many people saying how good the graphics are, well to me Aion is as good if not better and I like the way it plays much better.
My prediction is that Tera will settle in at 100k-150k in a yrs time, there's just to many decent-good mmorpgs out or coming out for it to compete.I mean do you actually think they will update Tera like Trion has updated Rift?
Sadly the game cannot be a hit, and thats because the majority of people who play subscription MMOs are a bunch of xenophobic kids.

GW2 is F2P once you buy it. It is a better game overall IMO and no monthly fee makes it a guaranteed success over TERA. Until you realize that content, quality content, costs money to make and implement. You better hope a lot people use the cash shop for unlocking dungeon boxes hehe. Oh you don't "need" this fresh content but it's here if you want to purchase it. Most people playing GW2 will still have a "sub", it just won't be fixed every month.
Aion is now F2P and you don't even need to buy the game either. It might be a little older, but for free I don't see many people choosing TERA over it in the long run. More people playing was all Aion needed but now that it's F2P with a cash shop anything after 40 could be tough. Aside from fortress PvP TERA IMO is better in every way. My time is worth more than 15.00/month. Most of you would say that for yourself right? Playing a game because it's free over one that you would like better is, in a round about way, disrespectful to your worth.
SWTOR has its fans because of the franchise it was made after. Doubt TERA could have a bigger cult following. I'm looking for something BETTER, not something more popular. If a game is truly good it will have a strong following and not because of it's IP. For SW fans and those that have not played MMOs before TOR is great. For someone who played that "system" before it's not that impressive IMO.
Diablo 3 is coming soon, it is not an MMORPG as these games, but it is still an RPG and no monthly fee, also has a huge following, don't see many at all choosing TERA over D3. D3 does have a huge following and I'm baffled by it to be honest. My first PC RPG was D2 but still... I think it will be an accessory game though not a person's main one.
TERA seems decent, but I don't think it will beat out any of the games I mentioned above, thus it won't be a sleeper hit IMO. In total sales? Probably not. Does that make it better? You compared TERA to two B2P games and a converted F2P. Concurrent players? For a while inthe case of all three possibly. People love free even when they coul be getting something more advanced, something 3D or something that is charged up front.
As you can see, everyone can have a different take on things . GW2 will take the attention of a LOT of people for a while from every game. How long depends on ANet. It brings a lot of changes but they took a lot away as well. How that plays out ong term isanyone's guess.
I really don't care a this point. I just want it to be May 1st already lol.
I mean do you actually think they will update Tera like Trion has updated Rift?
This is just my 2c.
They already have added more over the last year and a half and they still are. Other than the three aspect "class" choice (which is boss) I don't see how Rift has anything TERA doesn't while I could list off many things TERA has ovre Rift.
Well, battlegrounds technically since they wont be in for NA launch lol. That aside Deathmatches are a nice alternative unless you're already on a PvP server.
It's BHS's fault but I think people highly underrate what TERA is as a whole. Again, this is the fault of BHS by making the first 20 levels a linear path with basic quests.

The game isn't even live so how exactly did they add more than Trion did after launch???
I mean Rift had a good amount of content at launch and have added a good patch pretty much every 6 weeks give or take, pretty hard to match.

Because the original TERA released in Korea about a year and a half ago and has seen major updates itself. EME, the publisher for TERA in NA, has been trying to keep up with KTERA trying to get us as much of the "new stuff" as possible. They have been able to get most, if not all, of what is now in Korea which is impressive considering.
I'm not going to go line by line of how much each game has added but if Rift is indeed adding meaningful patches every six weeks that is impressive. Granted, Rift is adding those things because they have to. They have games that are technologically more advanced knocking and they don't have the WoW/swtor IP to save them. I'm glad they are working hard for their players though but so are other companies.

That means nothing here now does it? It actually means that the content was blown through very quickly over seas so they delayed release here.Wasn't it supposed to release here last yr? That's what I read.So they added content and quest's and such to attract the NA/EU crowd.
Being out in Korea for awhile means nothing, try going the Trion route as in NA/EU 1st then the other markets.

Both are arcaic concepts to say the least.
So being Patriotic and Spiritual or Religious is Archaic? But having false sense of victimhood is ok. Someone needs to straighten out their priorities and look into their life a little deeper. I actually feel sorry for you now that you've shown your true colors and I will pray for you.

Not all good games are made here. I wouldn't say Rift is a bad game but as honorable as adding constant patches for your players is I still see no reason to play Rift over TERA.

You're correct that not all good games are made here, but from what I've read Tera was completed very very quickly in Korea and that's why they had to delay it here.Guild's had nothing to do shortly after release there.
I don't think Tera is a bad game but at the same time I think a yr or so after release people will wish Enmasse were updating like Trion. That's going to make a big difference imo.
Oh, you are right, EME will have to work hard if they want TERA to be successful. From what they have done up to this point I see no reason why they wouldn't. The lines are a bit blurred but EME has done a lot of work with TERA outside translations.
On the original release of TERA you're right, there was no end game, PvP was horrible and there were other issues. To me it was Korea's Vanguard lol. The only difference being content and not technical.

If Tera is Korea's Vanguard then I'll definitely try it further down the line,I have a thing for Vanguard if it's pulled off as far as server stability.Lot's to like about that game.
Now I'm not saying it's a bad game,it just isn't for me and I honestly think that with GW2 coming out Tera will fall into the oblivion for many.I've read many people saying how good the graphics are, well to me Aion is as good if not better and I like the way it plays much better.
Two points of contention:
(1) GW2 attracts an entirely different type of player than TERA does. I know GW2 fans will dispute this, but the fact is that GW2 is more a casual, carebearish "play at your own pace, don't worry about achievement, we're all on the same level here" kind of gamer. This is the type of game you play if you don't care about progression or standing out in a crowd. They put everyone on equal terms and just say, "Go play." That will be fine for many people. The people that play TERA, on the other hand, will be the folks who find GW2's system too timid. In TERA, you CAN make a name for yourself in the world, either good or bad. The PvP is directly tied into the PVE, not some separate game to protect the casuals from getting their feelings hurt. The hardcore players will play TERA, and the casuals will play GW2.
Now, as we all know, there are more casuals than hardcore gamers out there, so of course GW2 will be more popular. But TERA will more than hold its own and be a successful game based on the players who actually enjoy a challenge. It will be a niche title, for sure, but it will be a successful one.
(2) I'm not sure when the last time you played Aion was, but to say the graphics are as good as TERA is patently false. It's not even in the same ballpark. Hell, it isn't even the same sport. Do me a favor the next time you play Aion. Go somewhere where there is foliage, grass or flowers. Now, pan your camera down to that foliage, and zoom in. It has no textures. It's nothing but painted on landscapes over a flat surface. That may have flown a few years ago when it released, but it doesn't fly now.

The quests are dull but so what, It's what I've been doing for 10 years!
Can't wait for release. Zerker FTW!
if it makes it any better,
there's even a few americans such as myself that see it all the time and are disgusted by it as well.

It's BHS's fault but I think people highly underrate what TERA is as a whole. Again, this is the fault of BHS by making the first 20 levels a linear path with basic quests.
Just not worth my time anymore.
The game isn't even live so how exactly did they add more than Trion did after launch???
I mean Rift had a good amount of content at launch and have added a good patch pretty much every 6 weeks give or take, pretty hard to match.
Because the game has been out for a while in korea?

Just not worth my time anymore.
I'm bumping this as it's more important than what I posted.
Just not worth my time anymore.
On the original release of TERA you're right, there was no end game, PvP was horrible and there were other issues. To me it was Korea's Vanguard lol. The only difference being content and not technical.
Just not worth my time anymore.
If Tera is Korea's Vanguard then I'll definitely try it further down the line,I have a thing for Vanguard if it's pulled off as far as server stability.Lot's to like about that game.
