if you plan on overclocking then get a better one than comes packaged with the cpu, otherwise stick with the packaged one. Although it may be a good idea to get a better cooling fan than the retail one that comes boxed with it, don't go spending too much cash on a cooling system unless you are going to overclock.

Ok, i'm looking for the best cooling system there is.
I'm going to purchase an AMD 3.4ghz, and Overclock it to 4.4ghz without it overheating.. So basically i'm looking for the best cooling system but hopefully under 300.
From your experience, in addition to newegg, what other web sites that I should check for price comparison? Or, there's no need to even bother checking other sites?

you might want to go with a refidgration cooling system, slightly expensive but you can forget it ever overheating

Acro, you've got a desent setup. However, my big advice to you is to upgrade the processor to atleast a 2600+, if not faster. A 2000+ is pushing it performance wise if you're going to buy a processor NOW. You can get a 2600+ for under $100, and a 2800+ for just over $100. Don't waste your money on a 2000+ though.
If you're going to be gaming on this machine, as I assume you would, posting here, you might also want to add another 512mb RAM. Other than that, it looks good.

Also, you might want a better gfx card. The GeForce 4 ti4200 isn't a BAD card, but yet again it's under par. If you're going to make a purchase, either save up more funds to buy something worth buying, or try to find a deal.
If you plan on playing any NEW games, you'll want a DX9b supported video card. Think GeForce 5200 or higher (though I wouldn't touch a 5200 to save my life), or a Radeon 9600 or higher. That'll hold you over for another year or so, then it will be time to upgrade again.

Mmofan the monitor is nice its just like mine but mine is black. If u realy cant find a black one than buy that one but u rather have a black one cause dust and dirt dont show on monitor really.
Anyways man just shop at Newegg.com for everything like i said best selection, best products, best customer support , and reviews from ppl that have the product.
Well good luck my firend with ur computer. I hope it turns out good man.
Also about the Video Card get the 9800 pro if u havent already and get the VGA silencer my firend u wont be dissapointed with it. Also if ur going with AMD athlon get the DDR memroy but if u go Intel Pentium get Rambus memory(fastest memory available) I have it and just performs great. Got my MOBO OC from 2.4ghz with alot of cooling to 2.9 GHZ.

While i totally agree the ti4200 is getting old and if anything you should go for a newer generation of card keep way clear of the FX5200.
It is a DX9 MX440 nothing more and all benchmarks say so.In short the Ti4200 would and has smacked the FX5200 pretty badly.
If you can afford the R9600 the go for it .It is not even in the same league with the FX5200 at all.It is a much better card.If not then go for the FX5600 which is about par with the non pro version of the 9600.
If you are forced to choose between the Ti4200 and FX5200 certainly go for the Ti4200.However i don't recommend either if you can afford better.
Like alistar said .The FX5200 is not recommended its slooooow and a disgrace on the name of nvidia.
But try to save more money and get a better Video Card cause either one of those are too old for new generation games and they really cant support anything new.

For example, is s754 gonna phase out soon? Thanks.
mmofan, sorry it took so long to get back to you on this.
Cache is very important, but in the socket939 vs the socket754, the new chips support dual channel, unbuffered memory controller. This makes up for the difference in cache based upon the performance bench marks and test run.
Also, the socket754 is not being phased out. AMD will reduce the price of socket754 cpus, and they will become part of AMD's value line of cpus.
The 3200+ is a very good processor. I was just offering you the option of the new socket 939 because it will offer you a great deal of liberty to upgrade over the next couple of years if not more. Plus the fact that it supports unbuffered, dual channel memory. While the 3200+ supports single channel. It is not "future proof", by no means, and the 3200+ is a good choice if you don't want to spend the extra $250 to go socket 939.
I compare prices of Newegg.com to Zipzoomfly.com. Both have good prices and trust worthy customer service. If you use a price search like Bizrate, Pricegrabber or the like, be careful. If you find a lower price than Newegg.com or Zipzoomfly.com, please make sure the dealer you buy from is rated and reputible. I had a bad experience of receiving a vid card in two pieces and bad ram from some vendors, and I didn't get refunded for it. Long story. Newegg.com and Zipzoomfly you can't go wrong with. Really good companies to deal with.

Just thought I would give you some combo alternatives to your set up.
You could upgrade to an AMD Athlon XP 2500+ 1.83ghz, $80.00 at newegg.com or $75(OEM). This would give you an increase in both fsb up to 333mhz and cache up to 512kb. You can overclock this chip up to around 2.21ghz (13 X 170mhz) with little stability issues, but speeds of 3.21ghz have been achieved. The average overclock is around 2.316ghz.
You could also upgrade to an AMD Athlon XP 2600+, $90.00 or $85(OEM). I would personally go with the 2500+ because it has been more stable in overclocking than the 2600+ based upon my research.
Buying the 2500+ processor would cost you only $23.00 more over the 2000+. This $23.00 would be a good investment for the increase in both fsb and cache as well as being able to easily overclock the 2500+ for an added gain in performance.
The Biostar mobo is fine, just make sure it is the 3.0 revision so it will be compatible with your AMD cpu. The Abit NF7-S is a probably a better mobo, but it is also $42 more than the Biostar at $85.00 so sticking with the Biostar mobo is fine. In fact the second highest overclock on the 2500+ was a guy using a Biostar mobo.
I would definitely upgrade your vid card btw if you can. All though, that is a nice package with the games and all. I would recommend the GIGABYTE ATI RADEON 9600 PRO Video Card, 128MB DDR, 128-bit, DVI/TV-Out, 8X AGP, Model "GV-R96P128DH" $129-RETAIL at Newegg.com or if you can find it cheaper. This will give you about twice the performance of the card you're planning on getting. Otherwise stick with the the card your getting. Paying the extra $$$ and staying within your budget of $600 to $700, it would not be worth the money spent on other cards. Check this review on older cards. Sorry don't have a review on the older cards with the newer games.
Upgrading to the 2500+ cpu and the 9600Pro card would cost you $57.00 plus tax more than your current setup, but I believe you would find you would be much more pleased with the performance of your machine. You might still have enough to throw in an extra stick of 256mb RAM or even 512. Good luck p.

Thx kptone, rabid, dekron, murt, and anyone who's helped
I think i'll go with AMD, and I'll get the Corsair XMS as rabid suggested (i compared prices with Corsair Value Dual Channel RAM - $180 (value) vs $250 (XMS) i think, and I thought XMS is a better deal).
I also feel like getting 3200+ to save the $250.
I am pretty set on getting the 9800pro with the vga silencer. The only question i have is should i get 256MB instead of 128MB? 256MB has DDRII (by Sapphire), whereas 128MB has DDR. Difference in price is about $50-60. Which one do you think is better deal?
Thx so much for your help.
ooo...abt the monitor, I hope i can find a black one
Simply put there is no really difference. but the 256 needs a mobo that can support 256 of texture memory. I have the 9800 128 OC to 9800 XT speeds and there is no diff.
thx for all the replies... here is what i have decided so far on your help.. but i should have made it clear that the mwave stuff is an assembled barebones..
i will upgrade my cpu to 2600+ for an additonal $24 / $58 -> $82 i wont really be overclocking it that much, if at all...
which one? they both have free shipping and the 5700 is $4 more than the 9600PRO..
i also want some input on my monitor, should i get a different one? and i need it black to match my system...
price wise(2600+ and the 9600PRO)
MWAVE.com -> 357.41 NEWEGG.com -> 257.00 total -> $614.14 including shipping
im not going to upgrade memory because i dont have that money... but the price is still good.. i just dont want to go over $650 really and keep it as cheap as i need to...

Hey mmofan. Good job on picking out your system p. As far as the Serial ATA cable is concerned for the hard drive, does your mobo come shipped with one? If it does not, then yes, you need to order one. On the sound card, that is up to you. I have used the integrated on board mobo sound for the past 3 years and been happy, but I plan on getting a inexpensive sound card later. Just depends on what you want to do.
Hey acro going to help you out with the vid card decision. Don't get the GF4 FX5700. Why? Because the 9600Pro out performs it in about every benchmark test I've seen. See for yourself. I'm not saying the FX5700 is a bad card, but it is not as good as the 9600Pro.
from your experience, will i be able to save money if i waited till July 4th sale? or it doesn't matter, and I'll run into problems like items not on stock?? Honestly, I can't wait, but if it can save my hard earned money, I guess I'll have to be patient a little while longer....
