I'm all for the big lights and flashy colours . I'm not overclocking the PC so i'm not too worried about getting the best cooling case.
Thats a nice case, but not for me. I'll be running the 6800 Ultra, and prolly overclocking, so performance more important than looks for me. Also my home office is in my bedroom, so the last thing I really want is a buncha neon and strobbing lights and such while I'm trying to sleep. God I couldn't imagine if I had all that on all 3 of my computers, be like a damn disco in my bedroom/office.

Aye, their cases are always rated very high, and I'm definitely more interested in performance than appearance. I've been through my "showoff" phase where I cared more about how it looked than how it worked, but I'm old now. Not saying a case can't look like Rathma's and not have high performace, just not for me.
And like yer new Sig Coraith, yer old one was a lil big for my tastes.

I currenty have the X DREAMER II the black one and its a great case i put 2 extra 80mm fans and the thing is a cooling beast now with a AMD 3200+ and got a 9800 pro video card 128mb with a Arctic Cooling VGA silencer and it still stays real cool.

Yeah i'm still in the "Showoff" phase. To me, a computer is like a car. Sure, i put alot of nice stuff under the hood, but i still want it to look nice when i'm crusing down the high way (Or in this case, showing it off at a LAN party.)
I still am trying to put in some nice fans and stuff to cool it down, just incase i have the urge to OC the X800 Pro if it happens to get slow FPS rates on EQ2.
NVidia - The way it is meant to be played
ATI - The way it really plays, if it's working....
No doubth man, i like the cool apperance also too and love to show off my computer and just like u im a EQ2 addict so always good to have something in ur computer that is not for apperance only its for performance. Cause ill tell u this even the X800 is not gonna be running EQ2 perfect.
Well enough said all ur cases look great and i HOpe ur planning on using those monster computers to play EQ2 for sure.

Hey guys. I'm a first time poster here, but a long time PC gamer and computer nut since wolfenstien, and been playing EQ since release. I've been over here in Iraq with US Army for the past 6 months, but when I get back at the end of the year I am going to drop a big chunk of cash on computer to play the next gen games (EQ2, Doom3, etc.). I have most everything decided so far, but I have a couple of questions about some stuff and was hoping that you guys could give me your input/suggestions for optimal framerates since you guys seem to know quite a bit. Hard drive: 2x 80gigs Raid-0 / 1x 74gig Raptor / or 2 74gig Raptors Raid-0? I want to do the 2x 80's because it is cheaper, but was wondering if the 74 Raptor will make a performance boost? If the 2x Raptors will increase it even further, are they worth the money? If it is, I will gladly buy them. Give me tips if you got any. Memory: Planning on getting 1gig of either Corsair XMS or OCZ (prob Corsair), but my question is will 2gig of memory increase performance enough to warrant the price of another 2 sticks of 512 to drop into the computer. I think EQ2 might need it, but I'm not sure if it will increase performance that much. Again, any tips if you got any. Monitor: 21" or 22" CRT. Lots of sites say different stuff for the best one, but it is hard to tell who to believe. If any of you have any experience with big monitors, let me know your suggestions. Thanks for your time guys.
All you need to add to that is a next gen graphics card (x800 or 6800 - its down to preferance) and a nice case, i recommend Chieftec as they are rock solid and cant be beat on build quality, their cases will last you for years.
Id go for a CRT monitor if your looking to play games, you can get a very decent 19" CRT for the price of a semi decent 15" tft which will almost certainly have ghosting.
And also good luck doing whatever your doing in Iraq hope it goes well
if u really have the major cash just buy ur self a nice ALienware with liquid cooling and u will be happy for another 4 years lol if u want to build ur own just tell us and we will help u make a bad ass system for u man.
And good luck there in the war, come back safe to play some EQ2 man.

Yeah i haven't bought it yet.. And i probably won't plan on it either.. I'll end up getting a reliable clear sided case.. So it will not overheat, and later on i could probably add in a few LCD's

AHHHH! Stop stop stop! Alienware is overpriced shite! anyone who knows anything about the cost of building a computer will know that. If you want water cooling it doesnt cost you a couple of K to put it in, it can be quite enjoyable to fit it and you dont have to pay LOTS of money for them to do it.
Thats true its overpriced but if the guy wants a killer machine and doesnt want to build one and has the major cash he should get the Alienware if not he should build it part by part which will be cheaper and more of what u like in it. Its his choise.
If he doesnt like to build he should get the ALienware is all im saying.
I hereby decree that the company known as "Alienware" will thus be stricken from the record and the use of that name hereby outlawed. It will be referenced to solely as THAT COMPANY.
Seriously, there's enough knowledge here to NOT recommend THAT COMPANY to frequenters of this thread. Not only that, but it's a crime against humanity to even SUGGEST that to someone who has come to us for HELP! We might as well recommend DELLS!
If he wants to buy a system, THAT COMPANY is not the way to go. Let us point him to something slightly worth more for the money.
One thing I know when helping people choosing PC parts is you can't be biased...not saying that you completely were though.
Also rabid are you really going to pay 500 DOLLARS FOR A VIDEO CARD!! PLus the Hardrive...dude get two 80gigs and raid. Nice and simple maybe a sata drives to..but whypay for the 10,000rpms
I see this as ridiculous sure it is your money..I mean if you want to spend that much on those parts and getting close why not save more and get all the new stuff when it releases...
Ah yes and my new PC specs...might as well post..
Case: Lian Li-607b Monitor: optiquest 19inch - 17inch viewsonic Ram: 1 gig corsair 512mb PC3200 XMS dual turned on Mobo: ASUS A7n8x pro CPU: AMD XP 2500+ w/barton core PSU: Thermaltake Black silent PSU 480watt Sound Card: Creative Labs Audigy pro 2 GFX Card: Gainward GeForce FX 256mb 5600 Drives: Floppy, Sony DVD-Cdrw 16x-52x
So yeah that is my PC Specs plane to get a gfx card most likely ati x800 series and in 2005'ish make a new PC 64-bit and all the new goodness, and make this one file server bitch 2.
I just got back from a trip this weekend to see my dad and grand father for father's day and read over the threads.
Gun, I've gotten several suggestions on other forums, as well, on going with a different hard drive set up than the Seagate 10,000RPM so I'll probably take your suggestions and other's on that particular piece of hardware. I did look at some test results, and the difference in performance on that Seagate is not enough for me to warrent paying that price.
Now, I'm not sure on what vid card to get. I've read more on the cards, and nVidia will probably win out on performance on games coming out this fall and winter. I still like that Gigabyte ATI X800 card though.
I agree with Gun, as well, that it is best to be unbiased when giving advice on computer building and modding. What may work for Gun or me, may not work for someone else. It just depends on what games they will be playing and how they will use their pc.
Ty for the advice so far everyone. I'll update my system to be built specs soon.

I built this as a complete system but you can take out the monotor and stuff and add windows XP, i dont think you want to mess with win 64 just yet. Also if your talking US dollars add the 256 card.
Zim, head over to www.newegg.com and double check your prices. I know the processor alone is $18 USD cheaper. Looks pretty solid though...might wanna add in another stick of 512mb RAM, although for what you're paying you can toss the RAM out altogether and just go with a gig stick.

I might go for selling very nice computers for cheap prices which is easily done and there is a profit to be had. This business should be operating by september when ive had a chance to learn php properly. Id like you guys to be involved in some way becuase you all know your shit and its good to have knowledge . I will be selling in the UK but i may ship worldwide if there is demand, I would definatly be challenging cyberpower on prices, id probably go cheaper than them.
