sorry that should have been, 2x 512 mb ddr 400. Its the goodstuff thats compatable with the K8V mobo.

And yes new egg is cheaper forsure if you live in the USA. But for me personaly its often more expensive after I pay a customs broker, expididte charge, shipping and tax. If i buy from these guys I dont pay customs, shipping is cheaper and often free to my postal code and I only pay half the tax.

Although the prices on some of thoes sata 7200 rpm drives looked dam cheap

Well tech / prices will change by the time I get home, but this is what i've been looking at, so I'll just apply it to whatever is out when I get home.

    - AMD64 3400+
    - Asus Via KT800
    - 1gig Corsair XMS 3200
    - ATI X800 XT pci-e (nvidia's 6800 ultra if they fix drivers by then)
    - 2x 80gig 7200 8mb cache RAID-0
    - Audigy 2 6.1
    - Probably a Wavemaster case or something
    - already got Logitech Z680 speakers in storage in Dallas
    - Intellimouse 4.0 (loved the 3.0, i brought it to Iraq with me) corded
    - Logitech Elite corded
    - Some 21-22" monitor, need help on which brand/model

I could use some help on the hard drive tho.
-2x 80gig 8mb VS. 1x 74gig Raptor -OR- i'd pay for 2 Raptors if you guys think it is worth the $$$.

Need some monitor help, if anyone has experience with 21" or 22".

F-Alienware. I saw their profits for 2003. (but I want that Targis thumbprint scanner they have on their website!)

you could go crt and buy

    compaq p1210

    or viewsonic(dont remember the model)

    but if you want lcd

there is always fp2001p from dell, not sure of the spelling of the model :)

lcd will saves your eyes form hours of gaming and crt will give you quality and the ones i listed will give you approx 100hz refresh rate which is easier on the eyes, i can't even stand 80, some say you cant see the difference after 60 but for me anything under 90 is flickery

uve got urself a nice system setup there but only problem is that if u wait like 2 more weeks or so u can replace the X800 Pro for a X800XT P.E for like 50 dollars more but its worth it.

Other than that by the time u get here im sure prices will be droped alot and u can probly buy a 3800+ for little more than the 3400 for sure.

    Well good luck man.

Dude, if you get the x800 you want to get it in agp format, not pci-e

Yea I have seen the reviews of a pci express board on Anandtech, no performance gain and in Nvidia's case some were losses, but I have faith that it is the wave of the future and that performance will increace in time. I want to have a mobo capable of PCI Express so I don't have to upgrade the mobo so soon down the line. I want to give PCI express a shot, because I believe it will get better with time and I'll be on board.

Speaking of PCI-E. Has SIS put out its mobos with PCI-E yet? There was some news at CoolTechZone and AnandTech back in May that hinted that mobos with PCI-E from SIS would be available as early as late this month, but I have yet to see it.

I'm wanting to wait to build my new socket939 system around a mobo with PCI-E so I can have the option to upgrade in the future. Does any one have any new news on how soon mobos with PCI-E will be out???

SiS is releasing the chips really soon, possibly this week.  I read last week that they were about 99% ready, but they should definitely be out by the end of the month.

Personally, though, I'd probably stick with the nForce chipset over SiS.  The nForce support is SUPPOSED to plow away even the K8T.

    Gotcha.::::28::

Why spend the extra dough on the X800XT PE when I can overclock the X800 Pro to that speed or faster? Don't get me wrong it's a nice card, but I'll already be spending enuf on the X800 Pro as it is if I get it. Considering the nVidia now though.

Well, I'll have the power and room for it.::::02:: Plus, from the reading I've been doing, you can really overclock a nVidia card pretty easy.

I also think the nVidia card will out perform the ATI on most of the upcoming games to be released this fall and early next year. It will be close anyways.::::34::

i must admit nvidia is quite appealing to me at this current moment in time, it will be difficult to choose between the two companies cards, i think i need to see footage of each cards performance before i make my choice.

The only reason NVidia whould be considered over ATi is because NVidia bought it's way into game support for so many of the upcoming games, MMO or otherwise.

Whether or not the performance is truly better is yet to be seen...Far Cry is the only next generation game that's out right now.

Yeah, if your willing to spend 700 dollars on a graphics card which met the same performance range as a 500 dollar card image.

Absolutely GF 6800 ultra has the same performance as the X800 XT P.E but it costs like 150 dollars more and not to be forgot the GF 6800 ultra needs 2 12v of 480 watt power supply. For me ATI has always been the best at what they are doing, nobody can compare to the ATI picture, image quality and on an on.

But if u would like to spend that much more on the GF 6800 go ahead but dont forget ur probly gonna go waste another 60 bucks on a new power supply.

  • RJCoxRJCox Member Posts: 2,686

the GF 6800 ultra needs 2 12v of 480 watt power supply.

Technically the card only uses 110w of power, Nvidia recommends the 480w PSU because most of them that high come with 4 power lines instead of 3, and since the card uses 2 of them, starting with 4 will leave you with the same amount as if the card needed 1 and you had 3 to start with.

And really, all the PE is is an overclocked x800 XT, you keep mentioning that the PE is coming out, but you never mention the 6850U coming out, which is the exact same thing, an overclocked 6800U... I admit, as it stands now the 6800 Ultran and the x800 XT are about even, but I think down the road on newer games the 6800 Ultra will out perform the x800 XT. Seeing as I am using a 550w PSU in my setup the power issues well, aren't issues. As for the money, I'm willing to pay that little bit extra for a name I trust and for the added performance down the road.

    EDIT: Oh, I forgot this:

For me ATI has always been the best at what they are doing, nobody can compare to the ATI picture, image quality and on an on.

You obviously havn't been in the hardware buying stage for long then, because as it has been stated numerous times, it was only recently when ATI surpassed Nvidia in quality. The FX series of Nvidia is actually what it was, before that tho it was ALL Nvidia.

ATI hasn't always been the best. When I bought my ATI Radeon 7200 back in the day, nVidia was actually the better performing card. I do like ATI, but nVidia is also a good vid card. I will choose whichever is the best card for my gaming style, and the card which will be able to keep up with the future games I will be playing.

I will never buy the XT version of ATI cards because it is not hard to overclock the pro version yourself up to and past the XT. Same goes for the nVidia cards. It is not hard to overclock them if you have the proper cooling.image

I won't be wasting money because I'm building a brand new system anyways, and I will be putting in an adequate enough power supply. Yes, the GF 6800 cards are more expensive than their ATI counter parts, but in the research I've been doing, the GF 6800 will out perform the X800s in future games to be released. I still like the X800 series by ATI. A very good high end card for the money. I just really like the nVidia GF 6800 based on the research I've done.image

First of all i never said ATI was the best i said ATI is the best for me there is a difference and being in the hardware busines for long time?? wtf i dont have to be in there for a long time to know what i like and what i dont like so dont give me any stupid shit like that. Ive alwasy liked ATI over NVIDIA not saying NVIDIA is bad but i just prefer ATI over it. The meer fact that NVIDIA can never compare to ATI image quality makes them better for me, if ur talking about performance than the FX series have been on top for a bit until ATI came out with the 9800 series which outperformed them. GF 6800 is more expensive than the X800XT and has the same performance as it if not less the X800 XT.

In the future outperforming the X800s? who told u that?can u tell the future now? imageI dont get it how stupid can u be to believe that if NVIDIA comes out with some crazy video card that ATI wont come out with crazier Card, And maybe the 6800 supports full 9.0c and the ATI is partialy on that it doesnt matter cause after few months another graphics card is gonna come out. You can never say the 6800s will outperform the x800s cause u never know what kind of stuff they gonna come out with next thing i know there gonna come out with a water cooling Video card thats gonna be the twice the speed. U NEVER KNOW. you can never stay with the next generation cards cause they too expensiver first of all and a newer is gonna come out in few months after that.

Even if u have researched u can never say anythign as a fact unless its already out so next time u make a prediction watch out what kind ur making cause ur research might show how poor of a job uve done.
