Over here in europe we have higher tax than you. So its pretty good id say, you could buy better if you bought the parts seperatly though.
Originally posted by Saigonshakes Quick question. Im in the process of looking for a mobo, cpu, and video card. I'm looking at two options here.First, Asus A8v deluxe 939 mobo with AMD Athlon 64 3000+ cpu. Since AMD compatible mobo's have AGP I was thinking the new XFX 6600gt.Second, Gigabyte GA-8I915P Duo A Lga 775 socket mobo with Intel P4 3Ghz cpu. Since board has PCI-e Im thinking a 6600gt card for PCI-e.Now, what is gonna be better for gaming? Paticualry EQ2. I've heard that AMD cpu's are better for gaming but I also heard thet PCI-e video cards are like twice as good as AGP cards. What one will give me the better gaming experience? Thanks a ton for your help!
I'm using the Asus A8V deluxe 939 board and can testify to it's performance and ease of installation.

It really depends on what you want. If you want the better computer, go with AMD. If you want the best upgradability (pci-e , ddr-2) go with the intel.
I would personally go with the AMD, but thats's just me.
How much of a future do AGP cards have? I really prefer AMD over intel but I like PCI-e because it seems to be the future of video cards. Are there any mobos coming out in the future that support AMD athlon cpu's and PCI-e?
Any idea how much these will be? And when they'll be availible for purchase? I'm leaning towards PCI-e as of now because of the fact thet I'll be able to upgrade alot more in the future.
How to delete everything from your computer? including windows (98) without a bios. I've done a bad installation, messed up my system a little. And should install window over-again. Just dont know how to delete it.

If your sticking with win 98, use a DOS bootable floppy. Either use fdisk by typing fdisk at your a: prompt.
Or type " format c: " from your a:/ prompt after booting off a DOS floppy without installing DOS.
Otherwise get yourself a copy of Partition Magic on a floppy and boot off that.
If you are going to Win XP, you can format during the installation process, you will be prompted.
Hey all. I have a 120Gb seagate SATA HDD in my PC at the moment. I also have a few extra ATA HDDs lying around. I was wondering if I could expect to see any signifigant increase in performance by installing my OS on the ATA and runing any apps off of the SATA.

I asked one of the guys at an area wholesaler in town that question a few months ago and he told me there would be very little if any performance increase. The numbers are essentially 133MB/s vs 150MB/s.

Alright tomorrows they day Im buying a mobo and cpu. I really like AMD 64's but I'm worried about getting a mobo with AGP beacuse PCI-e is out. How much more life do you think AGP has?
i believe AGP still has a while, i would give it a couple more years. go with what you think you will get the most use/value out of. if it was me though i would be getting the PCI-E (oh yeah i am )
For the record, the Nforce4 supports pci-e, and it's a kick ass board. The only thing that it doesn't support is DDR-2. I would go with that over an Intel system anyday.

At least another year. And if your like me and only buy them after they've been out for 6months+ for prices sake then longer
I use AMD64 for my gaming rig and have an intel chipset in my laptop which I use for school. Overall I've been really impressed with my AMD setup and would advise it for anyone.

Ok my turn for some help. I am coming close to building my new pc and this is what I have so far:
AMD Athalon XP 3200+ Barton 400Mhz FSB with 512MB cache Iomega external 7 in 1 floppy drive Seagate 200GB 7200RPM Sata HD ATI Radeon X850 256MB Platinum Edition Creative Labs SoundBlaster Dolby Digital Ex 6.1 Sound Card Creative Labs Inspire P5800 5.1 Speakers Samsung 16X DVD+RW Corsair XMS 512MB (x3 sticks) 184 Pin PC 4000
What do I need help with. A recommendation for a mobo that can handle that, and an extreme kickass case that can handle it with at least a 450 W PSU. A good recommendation for heatsink and fan as well and possibly additional PCI fans. Price isn't really a problem, but I would like to keep it under $500 for the case and the Mobo. And Mobo must of course support SATA, and no onboard video.
This will be my ultimate gaming rig!

yeah actually i think ATi is making/made PCI-e motherboards for AMD. I'm not sure though
you are correct Kemosabe

here is a list of what im getting
-Socket-775 Intel® Pentium-4 Processor 530 [3.0GHz, 1MB Cache 800MHz FSB, HT Ready]
-Raidmax Scorpio-868 ATX Mid-Tower Case w/420W Power Supply
-[Socket 775,DDR1/DDR2] Gigabyte 8I915P DUO-A i915 Chipset w/LAN, 7.1 Sound, USB 2.0 PCI-E/AGP Motherboard
-1024 MB Dual Channel [512MB X2] DDR-400 PC3200 Memory
-PCI-Express 16x Nvidia Geforce 6800GT
-[Serial-ATA] Maxtor 160 GB 7200 RPM SATA-150 8MB Cache Hard Drive
-ViewSonic 17" E70FB Perfect Flat .21H DPI Color Monitor
-Thermal Temperature LCD Display
any input would be great, and damn this post is never-ending.
Haha Im building just about the same system.

Thanks again Valarauk, always ready with some good advice. God bless you Libertarians
I didn't think there would be a great increase, but it never hurts to check. I don't think that extra ~20 mbps would be worth the hassle.
