AMD should include a heatsink/fan if you buy it retail from a wholesaler, they are specially designed for the processor in question. Also the upper end chasises (which I assume you will want) will include 2-3 out-take and at least one large intake fan which should cover the rest of your cooling needs.

A recommendation for a mobo that can handle that, and an extreme kickass case that can handle it with at least a 450 W PSU. A good recommendation for heatsink and fan as well and possibly additional PCI fans. Price isn't really a problem, but I would like to keep it under $500 for the case and the Mobo. And Mobo must of course support SATA, and no onboard video. This will be my ultimate gaming rig!

Wait a month or so and get yourself an nForce4 SLI chipset, it's looking pretty good. You should get a heatsink & fan with the processor. That should work well unless you are going to overclock, which i wouldn't suggest until you at least have your pc in top form at spec speeds.
As for the case, that largely depends on your taste. For example: do you like your case flashy or utilitarian? Color? etc...
I would personally buy it without a Power Supply, and get yourself a quality, quiet PSU. This is because the PSU is one of the more important pieces of your PC, capable of ruining every piece of hardware in your new PC should it fail. I like these 2...

question on redoing a pc.. if i would put a 256m graphic card, a good sound card worth around 200 bucks, and 1 gb ram 512x2. would my computer run top notch or would i have to do more?
If i had to build a PC, that will be: Mother Intel 865 with Dual Channel RAM, Intel Pentium 4 HT 3,5Ghz 2Mb cache, 2Gb RAM (1Gb x2 in different channels - Dual Channel-), HD 200Gb hdi, Sound Blaster Audigy 2.0, NVidia GForce FX 6800 (Ultra or GT) 256Mb ram, etc....

Post your MotherBoard info here, tell us how much you want to spend, and we'll give you advice on what kind of options you have available to you.
Also as far as buying, your going to be adding at least 15% to the cost, probably more like 25-50%.

hmm im looking for the cheaper road. can you try and help me find a computer to run eq2 smoothly at the cheapest price possible i was looking at some at circuit city today for about 1700 and it had 1gb ram and the 256 graphic card along with the special sound card(no monitor/keyboard, or mouse)had speakers with woofer tho. if u guys kno any place i can get it cheaper and with more power can you post the link of the site or give me the info. thanks guys!
For 1,700 you could build a pretty damn nice PC. Building is not hard at all eithier. Trust me, you'll get everything you want and it will be a ton cheaper. Some sites are Newegg.com, tigerdirect.com, zipzoomfly.com, etc. If you just have to buy a pre-made one then there are some sites better than circuit city. ibuypower.com, cyberpowerinc.com, are just some. I belive you could even configure a new dell XPS gaming rig for less than or around $1,700.

My gaming rig:
AMD Athlon 64 3500+ Processor Socket 939 Retail
Corsair VS512MB400 512MB DDR400 PC3200 (x2)
Asus A8V-Deluxe Via K8T800Pro Athlon 64(FX) Skt939 DDR ATX Motherboard w/Audio, Gigabit LAN, RAID/Serial ATA Retail (Rev 2.00)
Chaintech SA5700L GeForce FX5700 LE AGP 8X 256MB DDR Video Card w/TV-Out & DVI Retail
Western Digital Caviar WD800BB 80GB Ultra ATA/100 7200RPM Hard Drive
Sony CRX320EBK DVD 16x + CD-RW 52x24x52 Combo Drive w/Software (Black)
w/ wireless mouse, keyboard, wirelesscard network card, sound card, floppy drive, additional HD fan, and a nice thermaltake tower with a 420watt power supply.
My final cost was about $1150 of which the most expensive pieces were the CPU ($270 I think) and the 21inch monitor which was $95.
For speakers I used my shelf stero system which has 160mm wolfers built into each one.
I got my computer components from www.zipzoomfly.com and my monitor from http://www.accurateit.com/ both places shipped fedex, insured my purchase, and issued tracking numbers. Also all I had to pay for shippingwise was the chassis and monitor, the rest was free.
I would bet serious money on my system beating the crap out of the setup you were looking at from circuit city which would have cost you an extra $550 dollars not including the mouse/keyboard/monitor.
Anyways if you buy your motherboard and chassis "retail" from a wholesaler they will include detailed manuals on how to put everything together and plug everything in. I went into building my computer knowing next to nothing and came out of it about 10 hours later knowning a ton. Also I have alot more pride for my system having put it together myself and knowing it inside and out.
Hope this has helped.

see thats sweet, and i would prolly put it together but am scared of not putting it together correctly lol. and also about buying refurbished parts do u find it safe? was worried and that was another factor in not putting together my pc
The only part I bought refurbished was the monitor which was gurantee'd for 6months. And yeah I was scared of putting it together and hitting the power button only to find nothing happen. I can smile about that because that is exactly what happened heh, I had to go back over everything and find out where I had screwed up (I had one of the RAM cards plugged into the wrong circuit and one of the power cords wasn't plugged into the motherboard correctly. Tried a second time and it worked.
Also between all the parts I ordered I got a ton of software bundles, I'm currently using Asus Probe (monitors everything about my computers function right down to how fast the fans are turning (currently CPU fan is at 3040, power at 1973 and chassis intake is hovering at about 2000). I also got/use a bunch of different utilities, dvdr/cdr, photo/filemaker type stuff from Asus/Sony/NTI along with the parts I ordered from then. Then there was the free optical mouse I got with monitor (gave it to my brother because I wanted a wireless), cdrws, cable bundles, etc.
Another thing I worried about was setting up the BIOS on the motherboard but the manual that came with my Asus included detailed instructions on how to set everything up and troubleshooting methods in the event of an error. It ended up being alot easier than I thought it would be.
For an operating system I'm using Windows XP Professional which I got for ten bucks from my college bookstore and Symantec Anti-virus (from the same place) for 21.

ha that had of been scary lol and thats a pretty awesome deal on the xp i wish i could find that kind of a deal around here if i do redo mine ima have to pay 90 bucks lol. but u have seriously convinced me into making my own cpu.
Make sure you get a more recent line of motherboards like a socket 939, also make sure your CPU/MB are compatible.
Good luck! Feel free to post a list of what your thinking about putting together here and there are plenty of people to give advice/point out problems.

As for case, something along the line of this:
Just as long as it can accommodate the mobo and can house the PSU.

Buying a cheaper PC from where? It's alot cheaper to build than buy. Just look around for some good deals. Don't buy, it's a waste of money.
If i had to build a PC, that will be: Mother Intel 865 with Dual Channel RAM, Intel Pentium 4 HT 3,5Ghz 2Mb cache, 2Gb RAM (1Gb x2 in different channels - Dual Channel-), HD 200Gb hdi, Sound Blaster Audigy 2.0, NVidia GForce FX 6800 (Ultra or GT) 256Mb ram, etc....
That's a great PC...
