In my case i usually dislike a few classes from the start, I don´t play them.
Then I pick one from the start, play a little, and make a new until I played all interesting classes a little. After that I usually fall in love with a class (or a character) and makes that my main.
It usually takes a few weeks before I really are finally decided, but since I can play for years the choice is important to me. The playstyle must be the one that fits me best.
Same for me, but it's been a while since I've had that great experience of falling in love with a class/character. For the past few years I usually end up with that slightly nagging "the grass is always greener" feeling and keep trying different combinations of race/class until I'm absolutely burnt-out on the starting areas and then get tired of the game itself.
Didn't use to be this way, and I'm really, really hoping that with GW2 I can re-capture that feeling of immersion in the game and the character I've chosen to play. *keeps fingers tightly crossed*
