That sounds about right for a functionality test.

    24 Servers:

    http://www.arena.net/blog/choosing-and-transferring-worlds-in-guild-wars-2

72,000 pre-purchases to date (high ball):

    http://www.vgchartz.com/preorders/41021/USA/

3k per server is about right to worry about feedback and not hardware issues.

Just not worth my time anymore.

Actual its totally expected ! As they have already stated that they will do it.

And when they say it , we can count on that it will happend. And the logic behind it is just as clear. If they set their server numbers too high, they will not pack people enough, if they set them too low they will run into this problem! Guess wich one the marketing department prefers.

They aren't so much sold out as they are just not selling more copies to avoid beta server issues. GW2 will be back on sale by Monday, if not sooner. SWTOR on the otherhand used the "limited" sales as a bluff to get people to pre-order along with the tiered released based on purchase/code entry.

pretty sure it was physical copies they limited, I remember hearing about perhaps gamestop over preordering and being unable to deliver. Honestly I think it was one smart thing they did... Does anyone remember day 1 wow? Hit mob, wait 12 seconds, hit mob, wait 12 seconds, hit mobs, mob dies, loot, be hunched over looting for 30 seconds.

They'll probably be laggy anyway.   GW1's always were during max capacity Holiday Festivals.

...and gotta love the "BUY NOW" Banners still showing up on the Ad banner on this forum.  I wonder if MMO still gets referral credit when it's sold out? D:

why people are using that silly site to get an idea of how many units they have sold is a mystery to me. No one knows if it means preorders or prepurchases, boxed version or digital... three of those or all of those. End of the day.. it's pointless. Look at their methodology, it's not even based on any factual figures.. just questionnaires and estimates really, it is VERY vague:

    @Vannor

If you have a better place to look up the information please let me know. I'm assuming it counts digital sales since D3 is up over 600,000. I'm sure it's not 100% accurate but it is a know source for this kind of information.

Just not worth my time anymore.

VGChartz ONLY show psysical copies sold.

    Always any game.

It is simply cause Steam , Origin , Amazon Digital and whole bunch of other digital distributors do NOT share / publish their sales numbers.

One of the reason why PC usually is so much outclassed on vgchartz when it comes to copies sold.

There isnt a place, and with no viable and worthwhile info out there about the numbers there is no point in bringing up something as obsurd as the numbers they are quoting. I mean I think I saw the rules page on the fourms got 193k hits which you have to log in to see. That alone even with someone skewing the numbers and with the fact that many will never visit the page shows that numbers regarding GW2 on that site are faulty. Its pretty much common sense and deduction.

Another thing, most likely Blizzard has been vocal to the media or them regarding their numbers for D3.. its sorta what they do. Also if you paid attention to its open beta weekend MANY are hoping to get their money back. Personally I am buying 1 copy to share with the husband.. its just not worth it for game without replay value.

thats actually a really good point, Gamestop screwed up so bad with their salespeople not knowing anything about it that many were forced to buy online even when they didn't want to.

If we consider the server list (from http://www.arena.net/blog/choosing-and-transferring-worlds-in-guild-wars-2 ):

There will be 48 servers for this week end. If we assume there can be between 6000 and 10000 players per server (let's take 8000 for this example), this makes... 384000 players. Not that many if you consider that games like SW:TOR had over 1 million pre-orders.

Unless their servers can host way more players than that, of course.

I immagine this will rise tremendously after we have a release date. With SWTOR it had preorders based on name alone.

Well, the servers can since their use of overflow servers fix any issues but I think around 400K preorders so far seems like a good guess.

Comparing that number with TORs preorders at launch date is not fair at all though, GW2 wont be out for at least 2 more months so you should compare it to TORs preorder numbers late summer early spring.

Personally I still wouldn't be surprised if TORs number of preorders were larger in the end either, EA put a lot of work into commercials and plenty of money. Anet have mostly focused on showing the game to the press and to people who already loves MMOs,

So far I seen the GW2 banners on this site a few days, the TOR banner was up for a long time.

However the real winner if you must have a competition wont be proven until years after launch.

The Standard Edition with Beta prepurchase version at Amazon in Germany is sold out too. :)

They only link you to other retailers through a link on the page if you go there now: http://www.amazon.de/Guild-Wars-Standard-Edition-Beta-Zugang/dp/B007NKBGIA/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1335522164&sr=8-3

The funny thing is that the other retailers noticed that these versions are sold out at the most places in the meantime, so they are trying to rip off everyone that didn't purchased yet by selling this version for at least 85€

I bought the same version at the 5th april for 49€

Honestly, if I wouldn't had make it to buy it and saw these prices now, I would had rather waited for the regular versions in June instead of throwing out my money to such rip offs. -.-

How can you sell out digitally?   Its not like you have a disk or a box to go with the program....Your only limitations are the number of servers you want to run.....Kind of hard to sell out digital downloads don't you think?

To be honest, I really don't care who is the "winner" subscription number wise. All I hope is the game is as good as expected, and of course if it is, that it gets enough players to keep it viable for the company for years so we get regular content updates and also to keep the servers alive so you actually meet other players easily when out in the world.

That set aside, I couldn't care less if the game has 500k, 1M or 10M players :)

They limit the number of digital pre-orders so the beta servers aren't flooded.

They already said that they will re-open the digital purchases during the week end if the servers prove to be stable and able to sustain the load.

You cannot "sell out" of a digital product, all keys are randomly generated from a algorithm, hence how every game single player game is pirated.

This screams PR hype, and as such any game that stoops to such cheezy shit to make money I'll never give them a cent. All this does is leads one to belive the game itself is crap and cant make sales off merit alone.

If they sell more copies than the number planned, will happen what happened with the D3 the past weekend, (error 37, servers busy, try later..) And if that happen people who purchased the game for the beta will get mad and neither them or we want that to happen...

when i clicked it, it had "sold out" for the digital regular edition but the collector's edition (more cash) was very conveniently, for them, still available.

The collector edition is not digital, it's a physical box. Very different things.
