I think after all the quests are done and the stories unfold is when the game gets interesting.
I imagine most of us that stick around will be spending endgame min/maxing builds. This encompasses actives/passives, grinding mobs that drop crafting elements needed for specific decks. Then trying them out in the various pvp scenarios.
The city hubs are designed with a lot of character and I can definitely see a lot of potential for roleplay.
By design, the crafting in this game will always be viable and stay current with new content. A full time crafter will have their hands full just keeping on top even a few gear slots.
IMO, this endgame will yield a solid community that I would be happy to be a part of. The target audience? Anyone who likes the idea of that type of endgame. Probably enough to keep TSW thriving for many years.
Yep, well said. I can't WAIT for June 20th to play the fully intact game and accomplish all those achievements per zone and work on my decks/builds and do pvp and roleplay in the cities with those Fight Clubs which already had my brain thinking of great ways to use them for community events. I can't wait to see what they have planned for post launch with this game and what they plan to add in the years to come. This coupled with GW2 awesomeness, I think I am about to enter MMORPG heaven for the next 5+ years.
Also, anyone else notice how the achievement system alone is part and parcel of your character progression? Every other MMO just puts some arbitrary point system on theirs with no real reward aside from the occasional title, mount or pet. TSW gives you AP towards unlocking all those skills via their Achievement system. It's awesome. Not sure what else it will reward with, maybe titles and other such things as well. I know some things were turned off, like Faction Ranks and rewards for those ranks. Can't wait to see what little surprised they have in store for us.
Sorry my friend, but maybe you should go back to WoW and play that for a while again. Refresh your memory! And then come back and try out TSW again.
Saying TSW is a WoW clone with some puzzle and investigation quests tucked in is just plain wrong!
- TSW is not a themepark game! It has no level progression. Nor typical gear dependend progression.
- TSW has no endgame that involves and endless gear grind to create Uber L337 characters to WTF pawn other players in PVP or sit in Ironforge to show how L337 you are.
Need to go on??
Rest my case.
Have you even played the game? Or are you just a compulsive lier?
There is level progression (Hint hint, it has a xp bar for more than just graphics.) This is how you obtain all your skills. And as for gear, this game is """COMPLETELY""" dependant on gear for progression, more so than any other mmo to date. Literally 100% of your stats are derived from gear and gear alone.
The endgame is all about the gear treadmill, even more than other mmos, since gear = power. Your power in pvp will be 80% gear and 20% skill selection.
I nominate you for either the dumbest person or downright biggest compulsive lier on earth. I wish you luck in the competition against the formor iraqi spokesman that claimed there are no US troops in Iraq as they dragged him away to Guantanimo.
ROFL! SWG pre-NGE was a defined as a pure sandbox game! Yet it had very much different XP bars for the different Skill tiers. Combat XP bar, Non-combat XP bar and Crafting XP bar (if I remember correctly or at least two).
Yet it was also gear dependend. Gear VERY MUCH mattered in that game also. Everyone remember the crafted 99,95% resistance composite armor lol.
There has to be some form of messurement in how you make progress. In Darkfall the XP bar is basically hidden within the skills itself. You need to use (read spam) a sertain skill a specific amount of times to unlock the next rank, etc, etc. Plus it also has gear to make you stronger!
In TSW your gear has NO stats whatsoever! But only via trinkets and talismans.
But most power comes directly from the Ability wheel and Skill trees.
Well at least I can tell your not a compulsive lier, your apparently just an idiot.
You think that the "talismans" (aka the gear as it gives bennifits) is not gear and that clothing that has no effect is the gear.
Now you claim that the power does in fact come from "leveling up" your character via the ability/skill trees, yet insist that it appears out of thin air and not from say... the xp bar that increases as you kill monsters and do quests.
I fear your beyond reason, there is somethign very physically wrong with your neural pathways. I "In all honesty" suggest seeing a doctor. I'm not being rude with that statement, I really suggest you see one, as your being deprived of your brain's "logic" cortex.
So SWG pre-NGE is suddenly a Themepark game in your eyes, while everyone else says it was a sandbox game, because it had XP bars to messure progression?? And it had gear with stats??
TSW has NO levelbased progression! Just like SWG pre-NGE!
TSW has NO classes nor restrict you to choose a single one at char creation! Just like SWG pre-NGE!
But whatever man! The sheer fact you need to resort to heavy insults says enough! I am done here.

I'm resisting not typing this in baby talk, but here goes.
Your logic (or the lack thereof) is flawed. XP bars have no effect whatsoever on a game being sandbox or themepark. In fact both games almost always have some form of a xp bar in some form or another.
So that has aboslutely no bearing whatsoever on this discussion.
With that out of the way...
TSW has BOTH levelbased and gear based progression. It's only difference here, is that gear has more of an affect than levels in other mmos.
I will agree your correct on it being less class restricted than other mmos. It still has classes (dps, healer, tank) and the devs themselves have confirmed this via videos. But you can choose to fall inbetween any of those roles and switch between them out of combat if you choose. Thats actually a positive aspect of the game. And I like it.
PS: In case your confused. I'm not in opposition to TSW. I played it in beta and liked parts of it and disliked others, and somewhere down the road, will probbaly buy it at a reduced pricetag.

Anyone (not bound by NDA) know if the gear gets really cool, at least? Is it the sort of gear people will get excited about? I know, some people will get excited about every little +1, but I mean, beyond that.. A gear treadmill isn't so bad, as long as the system for it is done well enough to keep players always looking forward to the thrill of the next drop.
I got a blue drop the other day. Surprised me. Was very nice with stats. The only difference in this game is the gear you get doesn't reflect in your appearance. You can change that by shopping for clothes from clothes vendors. From what I perused it was quite the selection.

Well the weapons themselves do change visually as other players and you can see different models for them. The rest of the gear called talismans don't show up visually however. And nice, I still havn't found a blue item yet.

How is this game level based, when there are NO levels?? Please explain.
Even SWG pre-NGE had dps, healer and tank roles... just like other sandbox games have.
I think it's because there hasn't been any good sandbox game released ever since SWG pre-NGE that people just have become too used to Themepark games and see everything black and white!
Did I or anyone else in this topic ever say TSW is a pure sandbox game? NO!
Only thing we tried to say is that this game is a hybrid! It's a unique game, just like Skyrim and Fallen Earth... that tries to step away from the typical generic Themepark MMO's out there, by incorporating Sandbox elements into the game!
But then you guys/girls come in here, bashing me and others for retards, compulsive liars and whatnot... resorting to all kinds of insults saying that we call it a Sandbox game, while we never said that!
In my book (and I have played both Themepark and Sandbox games) letting go of levels and class restrictions is a very definition of freedom and thus a Sandbox element in my book.
Rift still has classes, as it forces you to either choose Warrior, Cleric, Mage or Rogue and so already restrict you in gear and items and abilities right at char creation, just like the typical Themepark game. Having some customisation and different build option within the skill trees of each class doesn't change that very fact!
In TSW, just like back in SWG pre-NGE for example, you have the FULL freedom to wear anything you want, to create and develop your character any way you want! You have the posibility to unlock the ENTIRE ability wheel and max all skill trees on a single character and have TOTAL freedom to create any build you want and change them on the fly any time you want.
In that respect, TSW actually goes even further than SWG pre-NGE, as there you were limited to 300 skill points and when you wanted to swap to a different build, you had to grind out every skill again!
That is a very Sandbox like element in my book.
But whatever.... each to their own. At least I don't have to resort to heavy insults to make a point.
I honestly think that this game was made for people in countries that arn't so americanizaed. Places where Nightwatch was really popular (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0403358/), things like that... more european (not UK, we are very americanized).
I like the game but I'm a big reader of modern day vampire novels and zombie novels.. david moody sorta stuff as well, so this whole concept really ticks my boxes.
I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every minute of it.

strings or no strings are all the same
Yes, you do not need to choose your class, well up front. But as you play, and again, i am playing now, you do choose your class. You are stuck with your buid and its silly to start using a pistol when u've got 50 points in hammer, so yeah, u are lockedi n a roll. Even if you can change that roll (ala Rift, ).
However, this game still uses the same combat rolls as WOW, and thus the same combat style. There's no defense just standing their and trading blows.
Untl you gain Skillpoint points that will overcome the harder mobs, you are stuck adventuring where you want. This is a traditonal levelling system without calling it level. They just don't put a name on it, but i'll be darn if you can go to the airport without more than 5 to 10 skill points already spent.
Now, if, instead of locking people into weapon and roles it demanded that u change weapons and "decks" based on certain situations, you'd have a different game. But now, it simply allows you to choose "decks" based on who your party doesnt have. You still need your healer, damage dealer and tank.
I honestly think that this game was made for people in countries that arn't so americanizaed. Places where Nightwatch was really popular (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0403358/), things like that... more european (not UK, we are very americanized).

oh heck no, don't you compare this game to anything great like nightwatch (and i'm from detroit michigan).
I have never seen a single character on any show going toe to toe with any monster just standing there and punching them.
This game failed at presenting horror movie mechanics. I recommend anyone interested in how a horror rpg should go should pick up a cthullu corebook, Unknown armies corebook or any of the ALL FLESH MUST BE EATEN corebooks.
You'll read these books and go, wow, why didnt they scrap the wow trinity mechanics and use these.
To be more precise, children who consider themselves to be clever, who are sadly no such thing. The puzzles ?Spot the numbers on the pillars......spot the red light lines....spot the motion tracking lights.....draw a star.....
Much of the game seems to be based around an illusion of depth.
WHen I want to play a MMO, I want to play it not watch it......To answer your question, I have no clue who is their intended audience.
It's funny that you mention that. I was playing the TSW beta on Friday, and my brother asked me if I was watching a movie (and not a very good movie, at that)... WAY too many cutscenes.
I agree. And while I was pleasantly surprised by the puzzles in some of the quests, I think my hand was held a little bit too much during the quests. Maybe this changes once you leave the starter areas? I hope so. The game seems promising to me, although it feels more like a single player than a MMO, much like SWTOR.

I wasn't comparing the game to the qaulity of Nightwatch but i'd say it's in the same sort of genre, in terms of 'theme'. That's what I meant.

What you were saying was concise, you're a fan of this type of genre and the game strikes the right chord with you in regard to it, you also think it may for others. In other words you're all good .

Ragnar stated that we will get props and theaters that we can use for performances. I doubt this will be in at launch. My CB source says its not in there yet. But in the London underground, above the fight club, there is a giant cage with a mob in it.. waiting. There are spectators and food vendors around the perimeter and there are big signs and monitors that say "Pets Vs Monsters". I have no idea what its about exactly. But if I had to guess... some mini game goodness hehe
I sit on a man's back, choking him and making him carry me, and yet assure myself and others that I am very sorry for him and wish to ease his lot by all possible means - except by getting off his back.
I still remember first playing Resident Evil and discovering my first zombie, and when it turned to attack thinking "OH CRAP". There are some cool mobs in this game, yet the combat trivializes them. 4 zombies clawing at you? No problem. Who cares if they bite you, right? Giant tentacled mobs backhand you? No worries, just stand there and build your dps stacks.
All of the lovecraftian elements are there, but not used in a way that conveys the urgency, the shocking discovery, or the barely hanging on in the face of an unimaginable terror. But then again, I don't know how many people would play a game like this, but in trying to appeal to a broader, more traditional MMO audience, they lose some of what makes this genre so exciting.

they don't exist although some on here will try to twist whats actually in game and tell you otherwise.. im still enjoying it though

Ok I'm tired of trying to explain in written english why the game is level/gear based. So I figured I'd just go ahead and make a damn video showing it.
In advance I was in a hurry so the quality is going to be subpar resolution wise. If anyone really needs me to, I'll re-upload it in high-def later.

Namely the skill system, it is more akin to something typically associated to Sandbox designs rather than Themepark. It allows a degree of freedom, and some associate that to sandbox. Of course some don't, it looks as though you may be a part of the latter group.

Thanks for the info! By your logic, EvE and SWG are wow clones. Good job.

Yep, well said. I can't WAIT for June 20th to play the fully intact game and accomplish all those achievements per zone and work on my decks/builds and do pvp and roleplay in the cities with those Fight Clubs which already had my brain thinking of great ways to use them for community events.

I know some things were turned off, like Faction Ranks and rewards for those ranks. Can't wait to see what little surprised they have in store for us.
Totally. Did you see that pets vs monsters arena? What was that about lol. I cant wait to get my hands on some stage props. I bet those are achievement rewards as well.

To find an intelligent person in a PUG is not that rare, but to find a PUG made up of "all" intelligent people is one of the rarest phenomenons in the known universe.

What?! I missed that, where was it? Stage props.....I'm starting to drool here, lol. Not even Lotro has that much RP stuff and it is usually known for having some good RP and areas for RP.
I like the game but I'm a big reader of modern day vampire novels and zombie novels.. david moody sorta stuff as well, so this whole concept really ticks my boxes.
strings or no strings are all the same
Yes, you do not need to choose your class, well up front.
You still need your healer, damage dealer and tank.
oh heck no, don't you compare this game to anything great like nightwatch (and i'm from detroit michigan).
Who was this game aimed at ? Children.
To be more precise, children who consider themselves to be clever, who are sadly no such thing. The puzzles ?Spot the numbers on the pillars......spot the red light lines....spot the motion tracking lights.....draw a star.....
Much of the game seems to be based around an illusion of depth.
I agree. And while I was pleasantly surprised by the puzzles in some of the quests, I think my hand was held a little bit too much during the quests. Maybe this changes once you leave the starter areas? I hope so. The game seems promising to me, although it feels more like a single player than a MMO, much like SWTOR.
the more you play the more this becomes aparent.. but still enjoying my time for now

I wish the combat somehow felt more "weighty".
"Loading screens" are not "instances".
Your personal efforts to troll any game will not, in fact, impact the success or failure of said game.
what are these sandbox elements you speak of because i certainly didn't see them.
seriously are all TSW fans so arrogant? i did plenty of kill 10 of x quests in TSW.
they don't exist although some on here will try to twist whats actually in game and tell you otherwise.. im still enjoying it though

To find an intelligent person in a PUG is not that rare, but to find a PUG made up of "all" intelligent people is one of the rarest phenomenons in the known universe.
Namely the skill system, it is more akin to something typically associated to Sandbox designs rather than Themepark. It allows a degree of freedom, and some associate that to sandbox. Of course some don't, it looks as though you may be a part of the latter group.

Feel free to refute anything I've stated by actual evidence, I did it, lets see you try and do the same. No really, I'll wait, take your time.
