I hope it was the lead devs and managers at Bioware, and not the regular programmers and staff who get on with the work but don't make decisions.
SWTOR is dead because of the bad decisions of the people at the top. The bosses at Bioware SWTOR do not deserve a paycheck, and yes, they deserve to be fired and never work in the industry again.
It's Dennis Erickson. He was the ramrod on this project. He hired the writers. He spec'd the game. And he's the one who has constantly lied about what's going on with the game since release.
I find it disgusting that you are glad people are losing their jobs, especially in this day and age where they can be hard to come by.
I don't find it disgusting at all. The more mediocre fucks that get fired opens the doors for people competent enough for the job at hand. A bad economy does not justify "welfare employment". Noone is entitled to hold their job just because they might starve without it. In fact, noone is entitled to a job period.

This will actually be good for MMORPG genre, devs will realise they cant make lame WoW clones anymore and begin to innovate.
huh? because gw2 innovate the mmo genre?
gw2 is a warhammer-rift clone
its awesome bashing games we dont like but to do that u need to bash the flaws of ur own game.
gw2 brings nothing new to the table everything is deja vu except the trinity wich seriously the hardcore wont like it.
You really wanted to smash GW2. He didn't mention anything about GW2.

The start of the end I'm afraid. WoW with lightsabers does not work. Unfortunately their bad vision has brought them to this point and now fans suffer because of their lack of vision. Typical mmo developer work. Maybe just maybe but I'm not holding my breath but just maybe we'll see less clones and more innovation for the better of the genre.
Hope they are not going to outsorce everything now from some third world sweat shop where no one has ever heard about Star Wars before. Oh well, kind of sad seeing this game tanking so hard. They should fire top brass who mismanaged SWTOR production from start to end.
SWTOR failed because it sucked. It was a total WoW rippoff and the devs freely admitted it. People are losing jobs because they made a sucky game. That is capitalism. Next time they won't make quite so crappy of a game. I'm glad to see that this pile of crap failed because future developers will take notice and they will stop making WoW clones that nobody wants to play.
Arma 2 is a top seller on steam because of an extremely innovative mod that is like nothing else out there. People want cool new stuff, not boring rehashes.
TOR would have actually benefitted from being more like WOW actually, WOW wasn't a game only about the journey to level cap and story moments that's what TOR is.

After seeing things like the armor and other designs such as the "space game", I highly doubt they had very many working on the game who knew Star Wars to begin with, so what's the difference?

I wonder if Diablo 3 was a deciding factor in the layoffs? It's been noted that D3 has caused a slight noticable decline in WoW amongst other games at launch, from personal observations.

I don't find it disgusting at all. The more mediocre fucks that get fired opens the doors for people competent enough for the job at hand. A bad economy does not justify "welfare employment". Guess it's safe to say your not part of the "occupy protestors"?
Anyways, I do commend EA for making that announcement. It at least comes across as heartfelt and that's the greatest complement I've ever given EA. I'm actually kinda shocked they posted it. See people I can give credit where I feel it's due.
It doesn't say who is loosing their job but we can pretty much bet it's not the decision makers. Those guys are so far up each other's asses that it will only take shareholders dumping every certificate they have to force the real culprits out and turn the company around after bankruptcy or a buyout.

Doubt it.
D3 hasn't been out long enough. Pretty sure this was in the works behind the scenes ever since they went over their last quarter's numbers and did some reassessment, projection, etc.
Layoffs take time for a multitude of reasons. It isn't unusual for a compnay to have it laid out several weeks to sometimes even months before they lay down the hammer.
1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical.
2. To posters feeling the need to state how f2p really isn't f2p: Players understand the concept. You aren't privy to some secret the rest are missing. You're embarrassing yourself.
3. Yes, Cpt. Obvious, we're not industry experts. Now run along and let the big people use the forums for their purpose.

Yeah, I don't get that sentiment either. Guarantee most if not all of those let go had nothing to do with calling the shots in the main design and focus of this game.

You know they pay people to sound sincere. It's their job. Having known some of these PR people in real-life. I have serious doubts about any real empathy or sincerity. They just grabbed the 'oh we're so sorry card' off the rack, put it in an envelope and pretended they care.
Because, to me, if they really cared... They'd find a way to make it work. Companies that care find those ways... Companies that don't... Buh-bye...

What he said. I followed the opening of D3 and it did cause some drop in almost all MMOs. Except for Tera, there's not a one that didn't take some sort of hit, usually around 10% for the better MMOs, upto 20% for the older/poorer MMOs. So in that, the OP is correct.
But SWTOR has dropped 60% in unique log-ins in the past month. Most of it pre-Diablo. In fact, you can trace the big decline to post 1.2 patch. The churn really flattened out in early April. It even rose a bit mid-April as the on-the-fence-of-quitting people came back.
I find it disgusting that you are glad people are losing their jobs, especially in this day and age where they can be hard to come by.

Painfully obvious the guy is as ignorant as they come. I would have to guess he does not have a corporate job at one of the larger firms out there -- because if he does, he should know who is calling all the shots and ultimately responsible. The people who got laid off are the ones who pay the price for the clueless execs mismanagement. Simple as that.
It'll be on life support before the end of the year like Warhammer in its first year. Face it, the game was an unmitigated disaster from the get go. Some of us said this before the game launched. We told you how bad the game was. I came right out and said I could stomache beta testing this game it was that bad and deleted it from my HD and gave my beta key away. I was told to STFU and get off the forum boards. I was a troll. A hater.
Well guess the fuck what?! I was dead on. Put that in your fucking pipes and smoke!
good for you...and I mean that, I agree with you on this game. My ultimate point however, is that I have been banned for far less.

Your post history is actually more telling than his
But besides that it's laughable to reply to somebody based on his sig and post history instead of trying to discuss the topic at hand or at least reply to what he's actually saying. His comment was a general one and had nothing to do with GW2 specifically and also if you read more carefully he mentioned "devs BEGINNING to innovate" and GW2 already is innovating, not only just beginning with it so he can't possibly have posted that comment with GW2 in mind.

Oh come on Teala, just about everyone played TOR before it released, just about everyone knew what they were getting, the only thing people didn't know is what they couldn't, how the game stacked up for long-term PVE play and end-game PVP. These are the things that keep people around afterall.
I'm not ashamed to say I enjoyed my time I spent in TOR for the most part, I just didn't see anything to continue playing for after I'd seen what I wanted to.
