There is also sPvP.
I will concede the hand-holding on the exploring aspect. While I understand showing most points of interest as a guided-tour of an area, I do NOT understand showing hidden points. There needs to be something for people to find for themselves.
There ARE, however, still hidden DEs (found one today).
Anywho, I'm off to study. I just really don't see how this game can be "repetitive". There is just so much to do, even during its beta with races missing. I can understand having issues and concerns with combat, but there is ALOT of content worth doing and experiencing.

After 16 pages GW2 sounds like your run of the mill post WoW paper thin mmo that is catering to the instant gratification crowd. Streamlined to be be made casual and easy. No mystery, no thought needed. Even "hidden points of intrest" are marked on the map?! Reall? Couple that with "We restricted the trait/skill system because we don't want people to be shocked and overwhelmed." , and you the perfect recipe for a 2 month counsole game.
This is what the other side is saying... These aren't point of taste reviews these are game design reviews.
couldn't be more off base but again ill see you in the TSW forums hyping the hell out of that one shortly
I have not played GW2, but this is what is being said over and over by people who are not "all in" Where as in TSW, people said "I don't like the animations" or "I don't like feel of combat (animations). These are points of taste.
What is being said here is about game design. Stuff like "I can't continue the story because I need to grind DEs to move on." and " and that "everything is handed to you on a silver plater." This is thin game design.
Again this is not what I'm saying, I have not played. This is what is being said in this thread.
I would like you to read the green highlight area again and tell me, why you chose two completely contridictary statement if everything was handed on a silver plater why are poeple being forced to do dynamic events and side quest, shouldn't that also be on the platter, I am taking people at face value, and I don't believe everyone that claims to be, is playing the game, I think there is just a lot of poison here because everyone wants "their" game to be the next top MMO, who cares whose top play the game if you enjoy i, don't if you don't

I see well after playing both, GW2 overall has a ton more stuff to do right out the game.. staying power we will see luckily GW2 has no sub and I can enjoy both games
That more to do "right out the game" Is being decribed as repetative DEs. Every DE sounds like kill 10 boars or collect 0 apples. Some people arn't looking for everything "right out the game" they want to be immersed and to learn/discover as they go.

For the record to me Funcom made the TSW world completely soulless and unrealistic within the world they created. On top of it being just as much on rails like any other Themepark makes it much worse in my eyes.
The world in GW2 feels alive and this is strengethend by not having 2 house towns for quest hubs.

I'm interested in GW 2 for the WvW. I play pve to be able to fight other factions.I have to say WvW will only be for the 80 levels. Jacking hitpoints to 80 level with level 15 skills means almost nothing to a high level. Since the game is meant NOT TO BE a race to 80. I see only frustration for the casual player who wants to play the game the way it was designed....yet have fun in WvW.
DAOC solved this with battlegrounds where similar level could really compete. Not sure GW2 will ever get there....or that I will wait to see if they do.

I agree that unbiased but negative opinions are just as helpful, if not moreso, than positive feedback, but you do need to take things with a grain of salt.
For example, you can gain sufficient exp if you were to just explore. There are currently 3 different 1-15 zones available, if you were to just explore them and the cities you would gain several levels just off that exp. Even just venturing off the beaten path in your current zone can be rewarding. Different people have different perspectives of things, and what is grinding to someone is just exploring and doing events as you happen upon them to another.
GW2 is going to be a game that many will absolutely love, and it wont click for others. It is most certainly a very, very good game, the best released in many years, but it wont please everyone.

No, his point is absolutely, 100% on the mark. GW2 is one of the most thin, easy game I've seen in a long time. It takes hand-holding to new heights.
Yes, the "undiscovered" points of interest are indeed listed on the map, along with almost everything else. I've seen ridiculous excuses made for this - "hey, it's awesome for exploration because it lets me know it's there so I can find it", which is patently absurd to anyone interested in actual exploration in a game.
There comes a point when streamlining damages the enjoyability and challenge of a game. GW2 has crossed that line.
Rohn let us know how far you got in the game ands how much exploring you did. You're describing a way the game can be played, by all means stick to the obvious, just like every other MMO, follow those markers OR leave the zerg, go out and explore, once you start doing that you can let go of the hand holding and also see that one on one post lvl 10 afk fighting is going to get you killed over and over again. Yes Anet have put loads of markers in to guide you on the way but you can let go of their hand in this game, that hand isnt dragging you from one step to the next, your choice whether or not to hold it.
Oh i was looking forward to buying this one, seems the community isn't warming to it.
how so? overall concesous is immensly positive unless you are going by the last few pages of people who hardly put any hours into the game and most probablly have no even played it at all.

It just really isn't exciting at all. Loved Guild Wars 1 but this is not cutting it. The dodge and roll combat is like console gameplay slapped onto a pc. Meele is still severely broken. When you solo anything more than 2 mobs at you are dead as meele. Overall I think this game was meant for the younger generation of players, you know the ones who are just starting out. ArenaNet seems to be catering to the younger crowd. They want to make simple easy games for the casuals. I need something more intense, more mature themed to keep me interested.
hahaha funny, sorry but u most be very bad because i play warrior and bring more mobs because i kill them all. learn to dodge at the right time, switch weapon slow them.. cmon its so easy, most be because iam hardcore and ur casual. sorry .

The game is good, just not the messiah of the mmo world that everyona was waiting. Im there for the pvp, but that still need really a lot of work, especially the WvW

Death is nothing to us, since when we are, Death has not come, and when death has come, we are not.
As for questing, to say that GW2 has the most unique quest system is false. Try TSW's quest system...haven't seen anything like it and although there are "hubs" they aren't obvious and they make sense. Exploration is key if you want to find the side quests. There are tons of quests that you must find rather than hub. Also, there aren't alot of kill x of y....there are some, but that's definitely not the norm.
I find it hard to think that Anet could make something so different...GW1 was a more dull WoW but you didnt have to pay a monthly fee and the PVP was excellent....but there are so many "great" pvp games out there and nobody pays subscriptions for them....they are all FTP.
just to let everyone know, I AM tired of the same old fantasy MMO's....just too many of them. Im really sick of dwarves more than anything....but GW2 thankfully doesnt have them. Dwarves piss me off....especially the way they talk and then you have people mimicking their speech style and that makes me even more mad....oh yeah....I hate RP too....

People call GW2 the Messiah because of the religious fanboyism some of the fans have. Seriously, have you never seen posts, threads, videos, etc lall over the net about how GW2 is "better" than other mmos, how everyone will copy GW2 and clone it, blah blah blah? Just look at Gamebreaker TV. This doesn't count for all fans of course, but many are just crazy about this game and have to put all other down in a cultist like way.

Indeed. I'd say the reaction is overwhelmingly positive. In-game as well as here.
As always, the negatives seem to be standing out for most of the readers browsing the forums.

Which is different than Skyrim's compass system how? It always lets you know there's something around the corner to discover and explore, yet I've never really heard someone say Skyrim holds your explorer hand.
As for the map itself, I never used it so I have no idea what was on it, being there doesn't mean you have to use it afterall. It's been a while since I've seen an MMO that opens up it's world to exploration like this game does. BE it on the land or under the water there's so much to find.

While some are too fanatical about the game, the game is objectively more feature rich and progressive than almost all, if not all, MMO's on the market.
Name another MMO that has all of the following:
- A massive, fully realized open world PvP system that actually works. (WAR is the closest but it is lackluster in almost every other aspect and suffers form faction imbalance and low population).
- A 100% level playing field in instanced PvP
- Content that does not become trivial once you outlevel it
- Facilitates teamwork by removing arbitrary restrictions such as split rewards
- No subscription fee
- No set archetypes
- Exploration rewards
- Jumping puzzles
- Fully realized underwater combat and content
- High degree of character customization (extensive character creation + huge selection of dyes + transmutation stones)
- Dynamic events that not only chain and branch but also scale to the number of players
- Active combat that requires skill other than knowing which rotation of skills to us
Many games have some of these features, but there is no game other than GW2 that has them all. In addition, some features (such as scaling content) are novel to the MMO genre.

You mean the mmorpg.com crowd? lolz. Yeah it's teh community alright;)
Eat me!
The game is good, just not the messiah of the mmo world that everyona was waiting. Im there for the pvp, but that still need really a lot of work, especially the WvW
There it is again the Messiah? I need links to this. Only haters bring this up. lol
edit: Name a game with better WvWvW. What work do you want done?
Death is nothing to us, since when we are, Death has not come, and when death has come, we are not.
Not trolling, just saw the post and read it...
So you hate the Scottish dialect? that is funny about dwarves!!!
Death is nothing to us, since when we are, Death has not come, and when death has come, we are not.
BE it on the land or under the water there's so much to find.

try TSW....no map hand-holding, no hand-holding....no nothing....especially with the investigation quests
