Your really missing out. I currently play several F2P games that launched P2P and I dont pay a dime. I get a lot of enterainment value for absolutely free  :D

Only problem is ones like Lotro and ddo where like 95% of the game is locked out to you unless you sub or buy adventure packs to unlock quest lines. Those ones I hate because they are biliantly trying to nickle and dime their playerbase.

As opposed to allowing freeloaders. Worthless peoples. There should be no way at all that someone should be able to play a game for 0 cash when the person next to him puts *any* cash into the game.

Which is why the EQ2/LOTRO pay scheme is perfect.

Yes and no, I am unsure about eq2 but lotro/ddo has WAY to much stuff locked out, you miss like 90%+ of the game. Fallen Earth and Aion don't nickle and dime for content and they are both doing great atm. Which proves you don't need to block off content, you act like bandwith is costly or something, a mmo server prob doesn't even use 2 kb/s per player if that, depends what they are doing really. That and the skeleton crews that run these p2p gone f2p mmo's can;t cost that much to fund.

Being a pessimist is a win-win pattern of thinking. If you're a pessimist (I'll admit that I am!) you're either:

    A. Proven right (if something bad happens)

    or

    B. Pleasantly surprised (if something good happens)

Either way, you can't lose! Try it out sometime!

All I hear is not wanting to spend cash on a game. That's all I hear.

I give it about 7-8 months, then they announce their F2P model.

    3) Cash shop purchases on top of a suscription fee, meaning that they're expecting over $20/month per user in fees.

    4) They have talked about "convenience" and "nice to have" items but these are open to interpretation.

The question is, what are they putting in there that somehow makes it so lucrative for them? And why aren't they showing this in the beta?

Simple because its going to be pay2win items like massive exp boosters and the like. If they show it in beta people will boycott the game, or cancel their pre-orders over it. They prob pulling an AoC with TSW, By that I mean back in the day when i tried the game in open beta, tortage owned, then I got to the mainland and my first impression? "What happened to that awesome game I was playing? and wtf is this shit I am playing now". Needless to say I lost interest in the game on the spot. If the beta for diablo 3 would have been longer the same thing would have happened, I bought the game assuming it gets better.. well it doesn't, its the same boring garbage from 1-60 with 0 depth at all to the game, even for a hack and slash title d3 is severely lacking in the gameplay department.

I hope soon because I love this game!  I'd play it everyday if it was free.  But because it has a sub Ill probably never see it launch.

F2P is the future. Its a better business model.  I hope it sticks.

Better business model when done right, and not when its done wrong like lotro and ddo have.

I actually dont mind this at all. I'd rather buy the *specific* things I want than pay the same amount every month regardless of how much  or little I play.

All you need to know is "We will not sell power" That means no gear, no cash to gold conversions, NO pwer.

Other games not saying any names.. say stuff like "We will not sell anything that gives an unfair advantage." wtf does that mean lol.

Cry me a river. You are saying their business model isn't "done right?" It's F2P and they are ensuring they have 0 free loaders. They have found your achiless heel.

Pretty much this, I have access to everything I want right now in LOTRO and I've spent a total of 25$.  Now, I will admit that this has been through judicious use of the sales of both the cash shop and things like gamestop that offered the fellowship of the ring quest package and 2k turbine points for 14.99 (it is still only 19.99 through them).  Along with being an altaholic which has enabled me to get quite a bit of turbine points from playing the game.  I don't play it hardcore, usually about 5-10 hours a week as a second mmo.  That wasn't enough to get me to buy the box and sub when it was p2p, but I now get what I want out of it for less, and those that want more out of it pay more.

If they wanted 0 free loaders they wouldn't allow you to earn turbine points in the game.

More should be "like mike" (LOTRO/EQ2)

Hmm what is it that you didnt like? How long did you play? did you play? probably not....

I played. I thought the UI was great but that's as far as it went. Character models were garbage.[mod edit] Jumping just looks unatural. I love the idea of the game but you can tell it was just rushed through and not well thought out at all.  Felt like I was playing gta on PS2.

It's too bad really. I think a Silent Hill type mmo would be great because I love the genre. Oh well.

Thats fine with me. LOTRO is one of the games I play and have yet to buy anything. However when I want something, I will.

EQ2 is the game I still play actually. They have level restrictions, race restrictions and gear restrictions. Everything is finely tuned though so if you want anything "extra" (such as a hybrid class) you gotta pay for it.

What am I crying for? That makes no sense. I didnt say their model wasn't "right".  I said F2P is the future.  You said Its F2P? But assuming thats a typo :-)

Why would I care if someone played for free? Community? Seen bad ones in premium P2P.

Well, it cant be an achilles heel if I could pay for it whenever I felt like it.  I just choose not to.  And Ill promptly change my mind if they ever go F2P.

If it's so innocent, why won't they show us? Why such vague terms as "nice to have" and "convenience"?

They already sold bonus items depending on what level package you bought. A $15 Initiate's pack gets you a pet and a set of "high end" beginner weapons. A $60 master pack gets you seven high-end talismans, experience pots and other perks. So haven't they already "sold power"?

And what do they expect every player, on average, to purchase each month to meet their financial projections? How many pairs of shoes do you need?

    "Loading screens" are not "instances".

A LOT. I change clothes depending on where I'm at and what time it is lol That's just me though. I could see myself spending a good 10 a month on clothes.
