I tried, I really did. But I haven't been able to get into The Secret World. I love the concepts, the idea of it. But the way its made, though its good, it just doesn't work for me.
I definitely wouldn't call it the most innovative, and I definitely wouldn't say it will pave the way for all future MMOs. That's quite a statement. The Secret World will however provide insight into MMO's that will help future developers know what to do, and what not to do. I
It's a decent game but "most innovative?" Let's not get too carried away here. It's WoW with a handful of quests you have to use your brain for. And yes, I do mean handful. Kingsmouth has 5, Savage Coast has 1 and Blue Mountain has 1.
Saying TSW is like WoW with x, is like saying Home Alone is Beverly Hills Cops with Christmas.
Like I said, let's not get too carried away here. It's a themepark MMO through and through. There are a handful of quest that require you to use your brain to solve, sadly, the hardest so far was "Kingsmouth Code," the rest were easy. There is also so little of them that they are all but insignificant. There are 7 total during the first 3 zones, 5 of them are in the first zone. Most of the other quests place a marker on your map and you know exactly where to go and what to do. The game also has zone progression, typical of themepark MMOs. You move from Kingsmouth, to Savage Coast to Blue Mountain to the Egypt zones and then Romania.
It has a really cool setting and stories but it's a themepark game like WoW.
Yeah maybe its the most nnovative of the year, mainly because of the different types of quests they have brought in. Its not somthing I have really seen in a AAA mmorpg before, I suppose the skill system is a bit different fom your average MMORPG as well. Hybrid builds are more for PVP or solo PVE than the group PVE stuff but its still different from other MMORPGs thats for sure. (but its not a hard thing to be this year lol not much in the way of AAA mmorpgs have been released)
This is the best themepark MMORPG i have played for a long time but in many areas its exactly like your average themepark mmo.. but there are enough different things in TSW to keep me interested.
Sorry but such thing doesnt exist
innovative is not done before but they redid it 2 year later )
maybe ppl dont know what it means
to invent or begin to apply
in TSW no inovation at ALL. ZERO.
Different words in quest line hmm not a new thing. Removing quest helping same. pushing ppl to use google for answers sorry no.
Innovative battle sorry PLZ at least 1 Video with even somethg close to tactic or innovative moves. 100% of them are simple "dont care about cc" 2 buttons fights with useless strafing left and right but not even dodging or moving out of aoe in 50% times.
Atmosphere sorry nothg new here also. yes it is rare now to see modern day MMO nothg esle.
Animation -- no comments as even from videos you can see tons of abilities are animated same and they are just horizontal you can judge from them what the hell enemy is doing and how to counter attack him = fail.
Skill wheel i already said Even Indie game like Path of Exile did it much better with more sence.
Still no1 even tried to give an example what the hell TSW invented. Done the FIRST time ever (just to make it clear)

It's like saying all comedy movies are the same.
It's like saying all sports games are the same.
Etc.
Etc.

No. It's like saying that TSW is similar to WoW in gameplay.
Etc.
Etc.
Etc.
Edit: let me put in a way you can understand. It's like Hangover and Hangover 2. In the first movie, the guy pulled his tooth out. In the second, he had sex with a male transvestite stripper. Besides that, though, the plotlines were similar. Same with WoW and TSW: similar gameplay, different presentation.
It is not the best mmorpg of the year, but it is the most innovative daredevil game of the 2012, which will pave way for future mmorpg. IMO. In fact archeage has similiar skill system that tsw has.
The days of spec into pure healing, tanking, or dps is gone. HYbrid i where its at. Freeedom to choose how you play is the new hotness.
Guess you never played SWG or Eve for that matter.
Or Asherons' Call.
Way more innovative, for being what 11 years old now?
No classes, just spend raw XP earned directly into skills and abilities. Oooo...

sadly game are compared to WoW and ppl all the time saying its WoW Clone. Why not to say all games are Neverwinter Nights clones sinse early 90s, as all of them has graphics some sort of Characters and ability to kill other ppl.
Game cant be a clone of anythg unless its was stolen and got out with just another name Like WoW became Kitchen of Warcraft but inside its all the same game = clone
its just personal decision play or not to play any of them. Only atmosphere in a game really matters Pixels are on 10th place. If game is a little bit interesting and you have friendly guild or even better real friends in a game it will be Much much much interesting for you than any "Best game of the year" if you will be alone in it or around 10-15 years old Zerg machines of awesomeness and phepheness.
And TSW to last simply MUST have your friends in it as once you will finish all the "interesting" quests will be nothg to do in it As 1 character can have ALL the abilities. so no even a reason to roll an alt.
With such a model TSW must be F2P game with heavy shop oriented model as ppl will see " awesome wheel" of skills and will want all ofthem in no time and since you have no "lvls" you can get them if you pay right away as most ppl will lose interest in it in 2 months it fits perfectly into Pay to win model )) Really interesting start = ppl giving away money not knowing why = win and later after they wasted hundreds on unlocking all the skill or anyother thing it will be simple psychology as ppl will be afraid to lose money they spend will stay and lose even more )
(saying to much in TSW forum gonna buy game just to make sure my F2P pay to win idea will be perfect for it or not ))

Again, a valid as well as nonsensical comparison. In the same way, I could say GW2 is a themepark MMO - definitely not a sandbox MMO - so it's exactly like WoW: it has classes, dungeons, quests, levels, zone progression, PvP arenas etc etc. Therefore GW2 and WoW are the same, similar basic gameplay, yet different packaging.
Yet that focus on the similarities would ignore the differences, just like you're doing with TSW. It's easy to make a claim when all you do is focus only on some aspects and ignore the others.

You like that word "nonsensical," don't you? Anyway, it's a valid comparison. Actually, now that I think about it, TSW is very similar to SWTOR. So it's more of an SWTOR clone but with better stories this time.

So do Witcher 2 and Diablo 3.
Does that mean Diablo 3 is Witcher 2 with a in game real money auction house?

And it seems you dislike that word. I see you're rooting for GW2. Well, you're entitled to your opinion. When I think of it, GW2 is an obvious WoW clone when you look at its fundamentals, people that've consumed MMO's within a few months only to move on, will likely do the same in GW2 when they've reached level cap and seen most of the quests and dungeons and rest of its finite content. Although I see a considerable part of the WoW crowd move to GW2, it looks like it'll be a game perfectly suited for them. Anyway, enjoy your GW2 when it comes out and your GW2 rooting.

So it is safe to say that GW2 is a themepark game like WOW? because themepark is just not about questing there is alot more to it. And GW2 is a themepark game which follows a lot of basic principles with its own twist to the genre.
In that case any MMO that is themepark is WOW clone...... *rolls eyes*

The funny thing about your whole post is that you're the only one who brought up GW2 in this topic. Whatever GW2 is or is not, has absolutely nothing to do with TSW. Actually, I can't even take you seriously anymore because instead of using examples pertaining to TSW to defend your position, you chose to besmirch another game to support your point. That's weak, man. Peace.

There was never any doubt that GW2 is a themepark game. However, what exactly does GW2 have to do with TSW? Is it so hard to defend TSW without resorting to belittling other games?

I dont recall any MMORPGs having puzzle quests or stealth quests.. could be wrong tho..
Rare to see a modern day MMORPG? Trying to think of another AAA title.. but cant
Animation? Some animations might be similar but most are different. The only skills you can really judge what a mob is doing are the special attacks that show the zone on the map. That is not how to counter attack mobs.. They ahve different states applied to them and certain skills will counter those states.. cant be bothered to go into it further.
Skill Wheel - I love POE but why does it make more sense?

I don't belittle TSW. I criticize it. The fact that you feel the need to belittle GW2 in return just weakens your position. We're discussing TSW, not GW2, stick to the subject or don't bother.

You cannot be serious yourself. One, your posting shows you're some hardcore GW2 fan that's rooting for that game every step of the way, yet some of the things you see as minuses of TSW are the same mechanics and systems that GW2 will have, the game you're ecstatic about. Same mechanics and shortcomings, yet for one MMO you're keen to point them out yet for the other MMO you adore you merely glance over them.
Second, you drag MMO's like WoW and SWTOR into the discussion, I don't see why you would, bc the differences are glaring even if they're all themepark MMO's, but if you can drag those MMO's into a debate about TSW, I don't see why GW2 should be avoided. That's sensible, man.
There was never any doubt that GW2 is a themepark game. However, what exactly does GW2 have to do with TSW? Is it so hard to defend TSW without resorting to belittling other games?

Sorry bud but you can't use double standards here. TSW is a themeaprk like WOW..ok...but if someones says GW2 is themepark like WOW you go in defensive mode. I think it sayas a lot about you than anyone else here.
Also the Funcom also sold the game to you, so you are with US. I just happened to check your posting history you surely do love to flame TSW a lot and surprisingly still play even though you are clearly bitter.
Does that mean Diablo 3 is Witcher 2 with a in game real money auction house?
Yea, if you think that Diablo 3 and Witcher 2 are similar to WoW in gameplay, you obviously haven't played either of those game. Or your idea of "WoW gameplay" is any video game.
You do quests to level. Similar gameplay.
Do you see what I mean yet?
It 's like if a red ferrari was parked next to a blue pinto and you said the ferrari was the same as the pinto except red.
I don't belittle TSW. I criticize it. The fact that you feel the need to belittle GW2 in return just weakens your position. We're discussing TSW, not GW2, stick to the subject or don't bother.
Yeah only you are the critic here rest of just belittle GW2. Ok...
I feel the need to bring GW2 in discussion because it is a next big thing and also a themepak. I am still sticking to subject. If TSW is themepark just like WOW...is GW2 too a themepark like WOW? a very valid question which you have been avoiding for obvious reasons.
The OP isn't talking about most innovative ever, just this year. The question, what is innnovation? TSW and GW2 are themeaparks, but not wow clones. However, Planetside 2 is even more unique then them, but it's just PS1 improved upon (never played PS1, but this is correct, rigth?). Also, Archeage, it's made off allthe features found in traditional sandboxes and themeparks put together, but again, even more different then WOW than those 2. So, how to we put it?
Honestly, who cares? All 4 of them awesome and different, and tha's what matters, because now we have more gameplay options.
But i'm going to cheat. All of the features in said games are, as i said, old concepts and mechanics re-used, so nothing new, except for the Investigation Missions in TSW. Those, while a very small part of teh game, have never been done in any mmorpg. It's something taken from single players. So, i guess TSW wins for having 1 little thing.

Like I said, let's not get too carried away here.
Sorry but such thing doesnt exist
innovative is not done before but they redid it 2 year later )
maybe ppl dont know what it means
I'm just pointing out how ludicrous your statement is.
It's like saying all comedy movies are the same.
It's like saying all sports games are the same.
Etc.
Etc.
Etc.
With such a model TSW must be F2P game with heavy shop oriented model as ppl will see " awesome wheel" of skills and will want all ofthem in no time and since you have no "lvls" you can get them if you pay right away as most ppl will lose interest in it in 2 months it fits perfectly into Pay to win model )) Really interesting start = ppl giving away money not knowing why = win and later after they wasted hundreds on unlocking all the skill or anyother thing it will be simple psychology as ppl will be afraid to lose money they spend will stay and lose even more )
(saying to much in TSW forum gonna buy game just to make sure my F2P pay to win idea will be perfect for it or not ))
no offence... btw still a good game
P.S. not a WoW clone for sure

Yea, if you think that Diablo 3 and Witcher 2 are similar to WoW in gameplay, you obviously haven't played either of those game. Or your idea of "WoW gameplay" is any video game.
What has Wow to do with TSW since you are going on about it? They are all MMORPG themepark games, but hardly clones.
Well you belittle TSW all the time so why can't i belittle GW2? lol
Ok but seriously, comparing TSW to WOW is ok but comparing GW2 to WOW is belitteling? i don't understand your logic here.
If GW2 has nothing to do with TSW being a themepark game what has TSW got to do with WOW? after all both TSW and GW2 are themepark MMOS so i am just using your logic and saying that GW2 is also a themeark just like WOW. Comparing themepark with themepark just like you are doing.
I'm using WoW as an example, just in case someone is not familiar with what a typical themepark game is. GW2 has absolutely nothing to do with either of those games and the simple fact that people had to belittle GW2 in order to defend TSW speaks very loudly.
Get back to me when Funcom actually finishes the game it sold you.
I don't belittle TSW. I criticize it. The fact that you feel the need to belittle GW2 in return just weakens your position. We're discussing TSW, not GW2, stick to the subject or don't bother.

You do quests to level. Similar gameplay.
Do you see what I mean yet?
It 's like if a red ferrari was parked next to a blue pinto and you said the ferrari was the same as the pinto except red.
