Unskilled players tend to be older people with poor coordination which will be you someday! Anyways they tend to gravitate towards things they are good at and find enjoyment in which usually isn't pvp..until now. Now they can run logistics, carrying supply to fix walls and wield the trebuchets.
It will take away the excuse that a lot of players hold onto when they lose. I could see that being a painful realization to come to for some. And yes, it may even drive some people away.
But I also think it's a draw for a lot of people. I think the question is:
Are there enough people that love balanced systems that reward skill to compensate or go above the loss of people that need to blame something other than themselves?
There are already unbalanced classes as I understand it in this game. Arena net is not perfect, this game will not be perfect. You're going to be heart broken.
Yeah, I know they're not balanced.
So, bad player will just play the most OP class. And as I am sure this game isn't that hard to learn, you need about 10 quick binds and a mouse to master it, everyone is ultimately going to be similarly "skilled".
You really believe that LOL??? I've come across players in MW3 or Halo 3 for example who are so good that it is absolutely astounding. In fact, there are people who make a living being professional gamers and even have product endorsements.
If you really believe that everybody is just the same in gaming then I really am wondering what games you've been playing. They certainly must not be PVP games...

I LOL for real just a little bit any time I see someone talking about "skill" in an mmo. Its a game, even if you're elite, you don't have a skill. You're just good at a game. People take this stuff waaaay too seriously. I love games but man I have never had an actual meaningful moment, or a moment that required true skill..........because.....it...is......a.....game that fat kids living in their mother's basement are probably the best in the world at.

Yeah, removing gear differences only reduces the issues that people are going to have with balance, not remove them.
All MMORPGs with PvP since the beginning of time have suffered through balancing issues. This one will be no different. Hopefully they are able to get it as right as they can and it will be a fun experience for everyone.
You should have at least 15 binds for every class by the way. The 10 on the bar, dodge and the class skills.

I'm 43 years old and my K/D ratio in MW3 is around 1.40 (for example)
So no, I'm not elite but probably in the top 5%. I can't hang with the quick-scopers but I'm deadly with the assault rifles and play a bit smarter.
But I've been gaming since Pong so I've had a lot of practice I don't think poor coordination will be a major deal until I'm close to 70 LOL.

Reading comprehension isn't a skill you possess. I was talking about this game. You're going to need about 10 key binds and a mouse, everyone is going to figure that out because with the limited hot bars its going to be hella easy to map. Once everyone does that, and for this game they will, the only real difference between players is going to be reflexes and their machine(ie latency)
This game is going to make the elitist crazy, because even bad players are going to mouse turn and use a few binds...oh no, whatever will you do not being able to call key board turners bads because in this game there might not be any key board turners.

Huh. Cool.
I know right. I have right around 30 keybinds in my current mmo but I guess thats just easy peasy. (Rolls eyes)
OP makes it seem like GW2 requires some kind of insane talent ot be good. It defenatly requires more attention than other tab-target games, but this isn't an FPS or racing or action or whatever. Controll might mess some up, however. MMORPG controlls ofcourse.
Regardng "unskilled" players. Well, i don't consider myself a pro in any way, but i do try to improve and not ruin more experienced player's battles. However, i put nice, friendly people over ubrz skillez gamerz anyday.
On the gear thing, well yeah, gear still plays a role in GW2. Defentaly not in SPVP, which is what the OP is talking about, not in WVW and defenatly in PVE, as well as levels (for pve)

IT IS, that you don't get that is mind boggling to me, binds by definition are to make the game easier.
Again, if you can be good at something competitive while being 5ft2 300 lbs and living in your mother's basement it doesn't take skill.
But I was wondering how the unskilled population (probably 35%) would take the game.
I think that is a massive underestimation, in reality it is probably nearer to 85% for most games from what I have seen. Given that the vast majority are not "skilled" in the sense that you mean, I highly doubt it will be an issue.
"Come and have a look at what you could have won."

Get over that stereotype. The best gamers in the world are skinny teenagers usually. Esports champions that make MONEY just like any other sport. And even if one were 5 ft (not sure what height has to do with it.) and 300 lbs AND lived in there mothers basement that would have absolutely no correlation AT ALL to the current discussion. Stop trolling the forums and get off if you aren't going to have a relevant discussion. And its harder to learn 30 different keybinds than click 30 different skills anyday. Notice I said harder to learn not more efficient.
ALL and I mean ALL PVP games take talent to be good. Even if it had 1 keybind. The difference in that case is the "elite" players will just always win by a little bit, and the feebs will always just lose by a little bit. But the elites will still win and the feebs will still lose. And the feebs will still blame something.
PVP in gaming is no different than PVP in sports. There is skill. I play chess too and there are no keybinds but there is still skill.
And some posters are taking offense assuming people who recognize that gaming takes skill are somehow saying those who suck at gaming suck at life. NOBODY has said that. If you want group hug gaming stick with PVE not PVP.
GW2 "built from the ground up with microtransactions in mind" 1) Cash->Gems->Gold->Influence->WvWvWBoosts = PAY2WIN 2) Mystic Chests = Crass in-game cash shop advertisements
Let me start off by saying im looking forward to a skill based game. No more hearing "you suck baddie, your geared out". But I was wondering how the unskilled population (probably 35%) would take the game.
Now everyone has been in a guild where you got a few unskilled players (downright horrible) in the guild at pvp. Of course you would never say that to them or hurt there feelings but you still think it. Well alot of them can still be commited to the game and work hard to get gear because they really want to be better but unfortunatly you can only learn so much "skill" the rest is pretty much flat out talent for games. I feel like it does hurt those players alot because they are kinda stuck in that no mans land. At least if they got gear they could become almost average and contribute to a team and feel like they arn't as bad as they are (kinda a false sense of acheivement) but its going to be hard for them if they have no way getting better.
Whats everyone's thoughts on this? Will it force the "unskilled" players out of the game?
I think it will take the excuse of "its all about gear" from the unskilled players which is so common in the other MMOs. They will find that they still suck even though there is no gear advantage in GW2.
If you suck in a game with gear, you will suck in a game without it. The gear difference is NOT as extreme as the feebs make it out to be. I never had a problem competing in any PVP even with a newly geared character. I never once complained because I was undergeared because you just need to play smarter and pick your battles better. It's called skill.
Fail player is fail in any game.
Gear doesnt make a difference? Have you played WoW lol
At least in WoW gear does make a difference, BIG one... the best example is at lvl 10-20 pvp where are all the new players (starter edition) and all the ''elite'' players with all that nice leveling gear and they kill 1 hit any player with normal gear, which is so ridiculous btw.

Why do I forsee a future where the 2 camps rage at each other constantly, the "skilled" players about the "non skilled" holding them back in pvp/pve, and the "unskilled" complaining about the attitude of the "skilled".
Then we will see calls for seperate servers, one where you need to pass some sort of "skill" trial before you can play on, that or pay a monthly fee to play on it, to keep all the "non skilled" out.

I'm a unique and beautiful snowflake.

So now you are arguing that "games" don't take skill?
Huh. Cool.
They better just give me shifters and ctrlers or im gonna be a VERY VERY ANGRY BEAR............RRRROOOAAAARRRR lol

At least in WoW gear does make a difference, BIG one... the best example is at lvl 10-20 pvp where are all the new players (starter edition) and all the ''elite'' players with all that nice leveling gear and they kill 1 hit any player with normal gear, which is so ridiculous btw.
I rest my case with this video. YOU could never do that in a million years. If gaming weren't skill based then essentially every single person on the planet could do this at the same speed as this guy..............Not gonna happen friend.
I am not trolling. As I said, its a laughable premise and people that take themselves this seriously amuse me. And yes, I am sure someone who spends 6 hours a day in front of a computer is the very model of fitness. Again, binds make games easier, not harder or I wouldn't use them. More efficient is easier than having to do more for the same result, it is the definition of easy. And did you just equate esport champions to "any other sport" .............................................................mind boggling
le sigh, aight man firing a rifle in real life takes skill. Firing a rifle in game requires one pudgy finger to press one key., or god for bid one movement of the mouse. I use to box, that took skill, I use to play punch out at the arcade when I was a kid too, that didn't take skill.
I'm sorry, Let me call webster's dictionary editor and tell them they got the definition of skilled wrong.
SKILL-The ability to do something well; expertise. Keep trying to come up with your own definitions kid.
ABSOLUTELY. The world is computer based now so computer related sports are growing.
I would laugh more at saying handball is superior to Starcraft for instance LOL.
"Yeah, I hit da ball with my hand at da wall. I superior to eSport"

skill-The ability to do something well; expertise.
But please, by all means, keep trying to change the meaning of the word.
You are really invested in this. It really matters to you. I will stop now. I didn't mean to draw such an emotional response.
lawl<shakes head as he logs off>
No, your just outgunned and there is not much you can say when you are trying to change the meaning of a word COMPLETELY and someone else calls you out on it.
lol ^ +1
