Your not wrong Aero in how you feel, and I too share your perspective that the [Uuber sword of leetness] does not exist in this game. Stregnth bonuses and armor bonuses do.

It can't be denied that this is straight from the pay to win play book. We can argue on the implenmetation, but it never should have been implemented. Hopefully it will be changed.

You cared enough about the CC in TSW to make sure everyone knew that it was not were it should be.  I believe that you and other like you helped Funcom understand that CC is a big deal to a lot of people. To Funcom's credit they listened and made it a priority.

I've always said that I planned to buy GW2 at some point. I hope Anet understands that to a lot of people these type of things are not ok.

I'm not really personally interested in what is or isn't P2W.

I don't like the idea that someone can spam open mystic chests to get these hour long buffs that affect a players performance in WvW PvP. I'd say the idea behind a flat 10% damage increase is very similar to getting a piece of gear that increases your damage. In this case, it lasts an hour instead of being permanent.

I don't mind these buffs in PvE at all. If they were massive (really 10% is pretty much the limit for me), I would mind. But I'm cool with them making these keys/boxes attractive by giving a 10 percent bonus to someone in PvE.

    They don't.

I unlocked a couple of those potions during this last beta weekend. It has a very clear caviat in the description 'these will not work in WvW or sPvP'.

They are for PvE only, and are hardly exclusive. Not only can you get the chests ingame as well, but a lot of these bonus' can be crafted as well. The only really 'exclusive' buffs are the crafting, karma, and exp boosting ones.

Still not seeing it and didn't see any issues in the beta weekend but we will see at launch and if for some reason it is a problems many people will make it known and Anet was a great with GW1 so i would see them pulling through if it became an issue. As with TSW and every other game I pay for I'm critical on it on areas I feel need fixing and i feel will help the game as a whole.

well if what volkon or aesperus say is  true your whole argument is invalid anyway.. I honestly don't remember for sure though

If GW2 was a sub based game it would be another in a long line of failures, the fact that it isn't pretty much ensures it will stick around.

The items in the Mystic Chest are only items available in the store plus the transforming potions. If the boosts are gone from the store, they're gone from the chests. Funny thing with the chests... I got a key (of course) from the personal story leg and opened a chest. Every chest I got except one had another key in it. Six or seven later I had every boost from the shop excepting one, assorted potions, and one repair canister. I then got another key from completing the Metrica map.

People have reported getting those items in a chest (like Aesperus for example) in BWE3.

he didn't say he got specifically armor boost but either way he did say ones he got said PVE only so still the argument its pay to win is invalid

Yeah, if they're PvE only I don't care at all. And I have no reason to doubt Aesperus' claim that the description had a caveat that excluded them from WvW and sPVP.

    Hard to say.

I know I got a 10% dmg potion (only once ) during the BWE. However it specifically stated that it was useless in WvW and sPvP.

It's honestly nothing to be worried about. It's just the latest molehill that people are trying to turn into a mountain. This is actually one of the few games where I'm actually okay w/ the cash shop.

I got the rejuvenation bonus in BWE3 but like the dmg potion it was only for PvE.  And it explicitly said that in the description as well.  In fact, all of the boosts I got from drops and chests specifically said it was only for PvE, so the Pay2Win argument is null and void.

@bcbully - I understand your reasoning behind not liking a Pay2Win CS and I would agree with you IF any of those items were available for use in sPvP or WvWvW, but they're not.  At least not since BWE3.  If that changes at or after release, I'm sure there will be an uproar over it because I think most of us would agree that those things would be Pay2Win if they were allowed in WvWvW or sPvP.

You will be able to read about GW2's earnings on NCSOFT's quarterly reports ;).

We have to remember, too. This is their projections for North America and Europe alone! (and Austrailia).

They havent yet finished the language  recording for Korean, China, and Japan, but are getting there, i'd say it'll release in Asia 3-6 months from now. GW1 was huge in Korea especially. I wouldnt be surprised if GW2 hits 7 million by year 2ish because of the huge fan base in other countries (and it being B2P like GW1 was).

EDIT: They had already hit 1 million preorders at the beginning of June.

I don't think anyone that has played the game can claim that it will fail, but it's not going to be earthshattering the way some will have you believe.

Just off the top of my head, things that people complain about that could be red flags.

Zerging - WvW and highly populated events turn into zerg fests. (my own #1 complaint and the reason I'm not 100% anti-trinity) - Also the ranged vs melee deal in the massive fights.

End game - Remains to be seen just what kind of replayability the game will have at max level.

    Dull combat animations.

    no Open World PvP.

No gear treadmill (believe it or not, millions of people actually enjoy this).

    Uncertainty over cash shop.

    etc.

1 and 3 have an affect on me. At first I hated the idea of no open world pvp, but with the way the game works it would be hard to work that in. Either way, I get that fix from EVE so that doesn't bother me as much anymore.

But, like I said, no one that doesn't outright hate themeparks can say that the game is going to fail. Much like GW1, it might not rock the world, but you can bet it will be a solid game with a solid company supporting it.

The OP was talking about feedback left on the official forums by people who actually played the game.

Uncertainty over cash shop is prevalent among trolls on mmorpg.com, but if you read the official forums, the sum total of the uncertainty was people complaining that aviator glasses break their immersion because they don't belong in Tyria...

The open world PvP is a debate of definitions that will go in circles and not convince anyone. I personally believe that the only people who are going to complain about this are the gankers/griefers. For everyone else, if they feel the need to PvE while in danger, there is PvE content in the mists, and more is being added all the time.

Regarding dull combat animations, there were only a few instances of that complaint on the forums that I saw, and most of them were in reference to a few specific weapon attacks which the devs said they were redoing... I did notice in BWE3 that there were a number of classes I played which felt a lot more robust than in previous BWEs just because of the animation updates they have done, so maybe you are looking at old complaints? I would like to see some of those complaints from people who played in BWE3.

Regarding Zerging, it is expected that there will be zerging in the starting zones when you throw everyone into the same zone(s) on day 1. As they level up they will spread out. I don't see this being a problem once you get a couple of weeks in... I remember when WoW released and I spent over an hour trying to kill tusker or whatever that pig was named at the troll starting area. Cause hey, guess what, they were zerging it. By the end of BWE3, I could start a new character and I didn't need to worry about DEs getting zerged.

The same will apply to WvW.

Not only that, but a lot of people are looking at this as a second game or an occasional game... So unless they get really hooked, most of the time the population in Wv3 will probably be reasonable.

The other points are all really matters of preference... I mean, if you like gear grind then you may or may not like GW2(depending on whether what you like about gear grind is differentiating your character or getting rare stuff, or what you like is getting more powerful gear). etc.

When folks that complain about a game are completely unarmed with knowledge it's sure fire sign the game will be successful

so true. the best experience i had in pvp was when we were under seige. i flanked the beseigers to take out some of their equipment. i only did a bit of damage before this one charr broke off from the beseigers to drive me off. we had a massive bout that went on for minutes until some other people from his team jumped in. then it was a race to one of those wall portals. everything about this encounter took skill. even the running away. it was glorious. (i got away btw, and i like to think i would have beat him 1v1).
