Does anyone else think that this feature sucks in pvp?I think it is horrible and they need to 86 it.I don't want to have to run right on top of my enemy and push a special key to kill someone.Just let me use my class skills. It really bothers me.
A certain portion of the mmo community does not like to die. It's no fun to them, thus the downed system and res's for everyone!
I don´t think that is why they added the down state at all. I think it is a try to make things more interesting instead, as you die you have one last chanse so survive...
The rezzes for everyone is more practical, it is since the trinity mecahnics don´t exist and since each group should be able to consist of any combination of classes it really is the only alternative.
ANET have really thought about these features but the down state still needs tuning and possibly to be disabled in some PvP games.
If the game would be ablout players not dying then the dungeons would be easier.
The competition decided to go with no resses at all. They felt it trivialized content, and that there should be a penalty for death.
The revive and downed state mechanics make the game more about the group than the individual. in alot of mmo's many healers wouldn't even throw you a heal, in guild wars 2 they not only can heal you but they can revive you if you die. This is a good community builder in my opinion
I think it doesn't belong anywhere near PvP but it's fun in PvE. The more people will play the more will they'll realise it.
I'm a PvPer and the downed state pretty much ruined PvP in GW2 for me. Every time I kill someone l get frustration instead of satisfaction (even more if l don't manage to stomp him or if an ally stomps him first) Also I get frustrated when I get downed (most times l would prefer to just die and respawn than waste all that time throwing rocks) . All that frustration piles up very quickly and I just go back to PvE since that is actually fun.

Why are people talking about kill-stealing in sPvP? Seriously, if that's your primary objective, I can say without any doubt that you are a bad player and THAT is why things are so frustrating for you. Not only will you still get credit for the kill even if someone else lands the killing blow, but your kills aren't even displayed on the scoreboard. Maybe you'll have more fun when you learn how to play.

The Fight to survive mechanic sucks in all forms of combat, I played through it quite a few times and it always ended the same, with me dying and being rezzed or me dying and respawning somewhere. It ended that way for everyone I know who played the game as well. That said. It is useless. It is nothing more than an excitement getter that loses its luster after the 3rd time you use it.
There were many aspects of the game that were good in my eyes. Fight to survive was wasted effort and money on ANets part.
And to the people complaining about how hard it is to stop someone who is rezzing, you know that one utility you took that you almost never use? Replace it with an interrupt.
If you complain that things are OP without adapting, you'll never get better. You know that Hundred Blades FotM warrior build everyone is using? Any skill that grants Stability will completely shut it down. Bleed warriors giving you trouble? Bring more condition removal. Adapt.

I see your point, but I actually like it. Not only does it give players a second chance to change the tide of war but for the attacker it gives you a creative/fun (in my opinion) way to "down" people. You know you don't have to do that special move to down players right? You can keep dps'ing them and eventually their downed state "health" will go down.
The one thing I really like is after a very hard fought battle, especially when it gets personal, it sure feels great to stab that banner on to the enemy! haha

It's much easier to complain about stuff one doesn't like and hope to have it nerfed/removed than to adapt to it and eventually use it to your own advantage. That's been true since PvP was added to computer games

Sadly, this will fall on mostly deaf ears. Most people like to stick to one build and rarely change it until they have been having trouble with it for ages. I'm a victim to this kind of gameplay sometimes myself, I can get very lazy on occasion and just take it as it comes. It seperates the strong from the weak though, or rather the willing from the lazy.
As for the downed state, I like it. It offers an extra mechanic and it applies to everyone so It's 100% fair. Many times in both structured and WvWvW pvp I have got myself back up because of it, as has my opponent. This one time (at bandcamp) me and another guy went down one on one at the same time.. it was hilarious us both fighting each other in downed state (I won ). I'll never forget it.
I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every minute of it.

I think it sucks in both PvP and PvE. Okay, I've been knocked down. Now I need to survive by picking dirt off the ground and throwing it at my enemy. Really, ArenaNet? I mean, the concept itself was dumb enough, but the actual animations for it is simply insulting.
If this is the kind of garbage QQ posts people make about GW2, the game must be pretty damned amazing - which it is.
Downed state is awesome, ya'll just need to play better - as a team.
sPvP isn't "me me me" PvP like WoW, TSW, nearly every other MMORPG PvP - because there is no gear or stats to be selfish about acquiring.
Winning is about team work and playing well with others - the WoW generation has absolutely NO idea what that means - and it's very sad.
The whole "I got 20 kills and 2 deaths! However my team lost the match 500-10!" WoW crowd needs to just learn to not be selfish twats or keep their mouths shut and enjoy getting steam rolled in sPvP by groups that play together and win together.

This need to be removed of the game, 1 week after launch and the downed state will be annoying at the point that people will stop playing just for this. I mean it could be cool for a few days and games, but then, it get really stupid and bored, and is even worse in WvW.

Sorry, bit negative this morning?!
Very well said!
Yellow: I really like this paragraph because it articulates very well one of the most negative aspects of WOW, and primarily why many people don't want too many mods in GW2. WOW has created a whole generation of players who care more about their personal stats while ignoring their teamates. GW2 promotes people coming together, playing together, and winning/losing together.
I played a lot of WVW during the betas and I loved it everytime when someone came to heal me from the down state; I always tried to rez as many comrades as I could, many times dying in the process. This kind of gameplay creates a very close relationship and loyalty to the people you're playing with and to your server (something which WOW has almost completely destroyed).
I'm looking forward to seeing all of you in WVW come August 25! :-)
I like the downed mechanic. It adds another layer of complexity to gameplay and encourages teamplay. Please Anet, don't listen to people who are scared by anything different.

It's not about skill. It's about fun. Does the downed state make the game more fun? For me and many others it makes it a lot less fun.
I'm on the fence about this one. I'm not a huge PvP'er but I like to do some now and then, and I don't want the downed state to have any longterm effects on how enjoyable playing with friends is (which really it shouldn't). In PvP it seems to take longer to kill someone, so maybe they should stay down in that case. Imagine putting all of your effort into beating someone only to have them not be beaten, but rally and beat you. It sounds interesting, but potentially frustrating.

Wait a week of non-stop playtime, then come back here and tell me about how good the downed mechanic is. I gonna give u just 1 example about why this need to be removed at some point, u are in the WvWvW map, u find an enemy and fight with him in a 1 vs 1 epic fight, ¨a really epic fight¨. You finally kill him with just 100 hp left, thats was an amazing fight, but guess what, is not over and he kill you with a ROCK, now you and him are PvPing throwing rocks at each other, thats epic. till some other enemy come and kill you. And we are not even taling about zerg fights or keep defense, where u are in a wall fighting at range but we you kill someone, guess what, is not really dead and since you are outnumbered in that defense you just cant get out and kill him. Remember my words downed state will be a fail after a week of non-stop playtime.

They just gave you a new set of rules - you need to down them and then finish them off.
You are used to just kill them and you are still playing as if the game is based around that.

I know what you mean.
On Sunday, I was fighting this guy who would just not die! I tried three times to finish him but he kept rallying... On the fourth time though, I was able to finally put him down; it felt great!
I understand the frusturation that can ensue from not being able to kill players easily, but I do think the downed state is a great mechanic for spvp and wvw. It gives you as a player somewhat of a second chance (in most cases not really) and gives the the other player a chance to finish you in a fancy way... I love stabbing banners into people! haha.

If you are low health maybe instead of finishing him, just move away, heal, and damage him to stop the #4 skill.
Exactly as you said killing him it is not the end - your build needs to be able to kill the enemy and then finish him off. Downing someone ispointless if you can't go all the way through.

Exactly.
Are people REALLY complaining about "epic" fights in PvP?
Do people actually prefer quick, stupid, meaningless "I blew you up in 3 GCDs!" fights like WoW/TSW/etc.?
When the game is about killing people to get points to buy gear, yes, it makes sense that you'd NOT want to "waste any time" with something like the downed state.
But when the game is about WINNING as a TEAM, this mechanic is GREAT because it allows you to play stategically, cooperate and help your team mates, and also makes sure you are fighting a TEAM as a TEAM instead of a just one player versus another.

That "competition" has dedicated healers, while GW2 does not. You can compare what is not comparable.
Shouldn't you be playing that "competition", btw? Or are the GW2 forums more fun than TSW? ;-)

The downed mechanic punishes extreme builds, particularly glass canon builds.
This mean people will have to reavaluate the way they design their builds, making them more balanced since downing someone means nothing.
If you are figthing 1vs3 you already won because the rest of your team will be fightning the enemy 4vs2, so just stay alive as long as possible.
