You want to bash GW2? what's wrong with GW2. It's a game for everyone. It's only 60$ with no pay 2 win cashshop. A AAA mmorpg which don't require you to pay a sub fee.
Not to mention it have normalized pvp. Where skill matters and not how much you grind. What is there to blame about GW2? Other games failed because they suck.
lol "knee jerk" reaction much?
Hehe...there are a few in here. You can't say even the slightest negative thing or even question something with this game without them thinking you're hating on the game or implying the game is going to fail. Pretty comical actually.
1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical.
2. To posters feeling the need to state how f2p really isn't f2p: Players understand the concept. You aren't privy to some secret the rest are missing. You're embarrassing yourself.

I'm pretty sure laokoko was being sarcastic. Or something. He's often going around saying the cash shop is P2W.
... but it's hard to keep straight who's being serious and who's not.
I heard GW2 made pig flies somewhere deep in China.
Nah seriously, those assumptions are questionable at best. Just seems like yet another GW2 follower trying to kill time by creating yet another silly thread.
^this^
GW2 is good but dispite what some of the more rabid fans say it doesn't cure cancer (yet)
Beyond the obvious timing of some MMO release dates to coincide with GW2, Trion announced today that they are implementing what they call "PvP Normalization" in their next patch. Apparently, PvP Normalization is taking away the PvP specific stat benefits from gear to make it more about player skill.
I applaud ANet for forcing other developers to re-evaluate these aging MMO concepts, but you really gotta feel sorry for all the people who spent weeks / months grinding PvP just to have their stats go *poof*.
Not sure how long you've been around Rift, but this change has been a long time coming and it had nothing to do with GW2, sorry.
There has been a huge disparity between beginning PvPers and max rank PvPer's and it was solely because of gear, not skill. Something had to be done, and Trion had been working on a fix for quite some time.
But GW2 is the (new)savior of the genre, blah, blah, blah...
I actually play Rift quite a bit and until now have not seen any indication that Trion was planning to remove PvP specific stats. Even the recent Conquest patch took the PvP gear grind to the next level by adding additional levels of Prestige ranking and another form of PvP currency to purchase Conquest gear which has also PvP specific stats.
I just find it hard to believe that Conquest (three faction PvP) and the PvP normalization have nothing to do with GW2, sorry.
Why do people use the exception as the example? OVERALL THEAMPARKS TEND TO HAVE A STEEP DROP IN PLAYER BASE 30 DAYS AFTER LAUNCH.
Wrong, definitely not after 30 days for most, and writing in caps doesn't make a thing more right.
It seems to me that YOU use the exception as the example.
DDO, Rift, LotRO, WAR, Aion, Star Trek, TSW, SWTOR....merging servers within sight of launch.
Yeah, it's the exception alright.
TSW hasn't merged any servers pls get your facts right. I'm assuming you actually have very little if any idea how TSW is setup as dimenions are server clusters. Feel free to actually read up alittle on things before you state misinformation that makes you look ... well less then knowledgable

3-faction PvP=DaoC
Copycats: Rift, The secret world (released), Prime (cancelled) and GW2 (unreleased)
If it hadn't been for daoc there wouldn't be 3-faction PvP in rift, tsw or gw2.

More than likely. People have been clamoring for it in Rift since before launch as well. Is it possible GW2 brought this up? Yeah. May as well say it is possible TSW forced them to it too then. I mean the whole argument that GW2 has caused much of anything yet is simply silly. About the only thing it caused is some to push their dates up for releasing items. Far as the items being released? Many of them have been planned for a long time.

Um... where exactly is this huge impact they are making? You really didn't mention anything about an impact, just something they did.
If they are talking about other game release dates, sorry to say but thats been done numberous times in the past. Game companies always do that, heck guildwars 2 did that themselves as well.

Not sure if you read the entire post about how "What they did" caused other developers to do something DIFFERENT than what they had or has been done before... So, yeah, that's what he meant by "Impact" and not just about a release date.
i dislike rift a lot and have been very vocal about it on these boards but i gotta say now that its a smart move by trion and im sure it was brought on by the secret world and guild wars 2. I was in beta 1 for rift and there was back then about a 50 page thread about making rift pvp about taking keeps and adding a third faction later down the road. They ignored us and said they were worried about open world pvp and not objective pvp that warfronts were enough.
With that being said , the devs in Rift know their pvp is terrible because of their gear based grind crap. They also see games releasing now that could potentially destroy most of their community but the few hardcore fans they have left .If Trion doesnt do things to either bring in more players , or keep the ones they have satisfied they will go under in Rift and its smart to start trying to fix the game to fit with what the trends are. You cant really knock them for trying to follow trends in the market and fix their game to contend. I think a lot of people are going to be surprised with how bad wow actually does because they wont conform with shit and think they know everything.
Removing pvp gear in rift was my greatest bitching about that game and how bad their pvp was. Now if they got rid of some of the crowd control or put in a timer like DAOC had and not wows demishing return garbage I would have to eat all my words and admit its a good game. But until then all i can say is they are finally heading in the right direction for actual skill based pvp and not rewarding just the stupid power gamers that dont have a life other then rift and have prestiage rank 50 already.

Yeah, PvP-Normalization, something that plenty of other games had before this one. Outside that, it would have to mean other games all of a sudden jumped on this band wagon and did this, which isn't true. Not to mention GW1 did this and yet it didn't spark such a thing at all.
To have an impact, you need to actually cause an effect on others. Outside the launch date (which is the only possible thing I can see being an 'impact' it has done 0 to change how things work. The only thing you can consider the combat system but lets be honest, outside of 'dodge' it really offers 0 things new to an MMo. Tera did a far better in making combat much more skill based, even if the gameitself falls short due to its questing and a few other issues in it.

lol
