I'm sure there are many of us out here, many of us that are backing the project, that want to see an rp dedicated server. I'm sure there are many of us that have played games like WoW that have 'dedicated' servers for rp that are poorly enforced, where complaints from the community are largely ignored. Let's make sure that this isn't something that happens in CU. Let's make sure that we don't have to 'claim' a server for ourselves.

    Thank you!

    Edit:

Please be respectful of those of us that do wish to see an rp server. If it isn't something that you are interested in, then that's fine. Please do not try to spoil this for those of us that are, though.

    Another Edit:

Role players are already so interested in this game that a website has been created in support of rp. Here's the link: http://camelot-rp.enjin.com/home

    Yet another edit:

Many people that have posted on MMORPG have stated that they are willing to pay a little more to get the enforcement that we want on an rp dedicated server. I would be okay with that as well.

YES. I roleplay (D&D and World of Darkness) on a regular basis, but I've never been able to get too into RP online. You have my vote though. But what does enforced mean? I probably wont be RPing all the time, but maybe it wont be that difficult for me since I plan on playing a crafter. Regardless, I would go to a RP server just for the more mature crowd as has been stated.

Usually enforced RP means character and guild names must be in-character. That means you don't get to be named IpwnU, member of Pwn Stars guild. Another way to get banned is to clutter chat channels with real life issues. Discussing the Super Bowl or baseball games in General chat is a no-no. Groups and guilds might be more relaxed in their chat channels, but public channels should be in-character, or at least not game-breaking.

Thank you Xobdnas...and I think thank you Qalliidex as well. Not sure what to make of your post, but if it helps get us more attention then sweet!

@Fanglo: That is another great aspect about rp servers. Maybe you don't want to craft, or run a shop, of participate in the RvR at some points. Usually you will be able to find people engaged in all sorts of things that don't have anything to do with progression.

@Bordog: I mean that the GM's actually enforce the naming rules, and the ruleset for the server. There are few people that are in character the entire time they play their characters. The rest should be up to the rp community itself to build amazing stories and decide where and when to be in or out of character.

@Vargur: I don't necessarily agree with the channels themselves needing to be in IC unless it's a channel specified for rp. I think, however, that say and yell (assuming they have those functions, and emotes should be IC unless it's absolutely necessary to say something in ooc. Things happens, sometimes it's easier to tell a large group that you have to afk in ooc then whispering everyone individually, but it should be a rarity.

I'm doing pretty alright, thank you. ^_^

    Edit:

I want to add something that just occured to me. Blizzard implemented something in World of Warcraft that seemed really interesting at first. It was the phasing that was introduced in Wrath of the Lich King. It did give you a general sense of having accomplished something in the world that actually made a difference because it made those changes visable to you only after you completed the quest chain.

So, what's wrong with taht you may ask? Well, it's the fact that phasing make it almost impossible to participate in open world rp in some areas. There are places where people may still be questing, or where someone may have no interest in completing quests, that would be phased. Depending on the leg of the quest chain you were on, or if you had completed the quest, you would not be able to see other players on earlier phases.

This has been a major problem for myself and my guild members in WoW when we've tried to participate in this. It actually hinders rp in many areas, and it's something that I desperately hope is never implemented in CU. I doubt it's something we'll have to worry about, but if they suggest it we need to work together to stop it.

Coffey a mentalist from Nimue, use to make some really good DAOC videos. Some great videos came from our Roleplay servers in DAOC. Please support a RP server for Camelot Unchained.

    Thank you again.

There are a lot of awesome videos that come from rp servers across just about every MMO. Supporting an rp server will help in that.

Hmm A fancy word for instance?:P

Yes and no. It's an instanced area, but not the type of instance you might think off. For example, they have added a farm that you can technically own. It's in Halfhill and after you complete a long series of quests the owner passes it on to you. You can plant food there and such, and you can even set your hearth stone to the house. Everyone can own this single farm, and it's in the exact same open area. When you see other players walk into it, though, they disappear into midair, but as you or I would if someone else were watching us. If you and I were grouped you wouldn't be able to see my phase of the farm, and I wouldn't be able to see yours.

It has some...interesting possibilities, but it's annoying for role players in the end. You'll have large tracts of land in the open world that are like this. If I did a particular set of quests that you had not then it wouldn't matter if we were grouped, we still wouldn't be able to see one another there.

I am happy to see so many roleplayers interested in CU! So on a related note...

I feel that there could be elements of the crafting system that support active roleplaying. For example, when MJ spoke about critical successes in crafting, it made me wonder about what would be done with them. Say it's a weapon or a breastplate. Most crafters will probably keep it within their guild... But what about those that really want to make money on said legendary item?

Tournaments hosted by crafters and heralds announcing their champions would be epic. Charge players a fee to enter and let the crafter oversee the tourney. Require a herald to announce their participant. I realize all of this could be done without any coding, but I would love to see some kind of in-game support for it, as an update. Obv I would not want dev resources wasted on this pre-release.

Any number of crafter-created events could really facilitate rp. Weddings. Running the gauntlet. Archery competitions. With a proper host, it would really add a lot to the feeling of being part of a real community outside of just RvR.

Again, this doesn't really require additional coding/features, but it would be cool to give crafters real tools to create events that encourage rp.

    Is there any other way???

    RP FTW
  • AthileaAthilea Member Posts: 72

That does sound really neat Art. I'm sure we'll see some crafter related events regardless, though. RP only in the merchants areas and what have you. Huge bazaars set up so that role players could browse the goods. I can't wait to see what is done with the crafting class.

Thank you for showing your support!

Edit:@Alaya: Well, MJ seems to think that there may be if the backers don't support a dedicated rp server. Lets prove him wrong and show that we need this.

Athilea, thank you, we might know each other.
I also think it needs to be said that even if you don't RP".........RP servers have always had the most traffic and the best of players hands down.

@Alaya: Maybe. If you play WoW on WrA almost certainly. A lot of people know me by different names. To your second point, there has been people that aren't rpers that support this server type because of the type of players that it generally attracts. So we are certainly getting support from both angles.

    @Athilea

Even if we have no dedicated rp server at launch, we should all organize in the backer's forum and decide on a server where we can create as much of a rp environment as is possible.

I am as pumped for the community I see brewing as I am for the game itself.

Aye, that will be what we have to do if we don't get a Rp server. We're hoping we can though.

Oh, we'll certainly be doing that if our hand is forced in that direction. It's really hard for new players that want to participate in the role play aspects of the game to find servers like that. Hopefully, though, it doesn't come down to that and MJ and the crew can see that there is a real need for this.
  • SpeelySpeely Member CommonPosts: 861
I soooo hope so. As this is already a niche game, it only stands to reason that niche gamers should be recognized.

I just want to play CU with everyone contributing to this thread. Reading it has made me so nostalgic about early DAoC (meaning pre-ToA) that it's not even funny.
  • AthileaAthilea Member Posts: 72
I'm glad that it made you nostolgic, if nothing else. I can't wait to play with, and against, all of you.

That's an interesting idea. I don't know how many would agree to have their character killed in rp, though, so it may have to be changed to something aside from killing. Like, maybe they get their legs broken or something.
