I'd rather see a skill system, but assuming a class system.I'd want a class that tames animals/monsters for use as combat pets.Other than that everyone else seems to have the combat classes covered so my list is.
EQ1 should be the inspiration from which the classes in Next are drawn.
I can't wait for 8/2. The rage will be awesome.
Yeah from you lol, Smed has already said that the classes are more akin to EQ than EQ2. We know their are classes because he mentions a druid having to worship certain gods in a forest glade for some skills.
The rage will come from thew people who took Smed use of the word "sandbox" as literal lol.

Smed never mentioned anything about classes.
He has mentioned Druids having to worship certain gods for spells, so i wouldn't hold your breath hoping EQN doesn't have classes.
Originally posted by nerovipus32 It's not really a sandbox if the game has predefined classes, which will mean you travel down a predefined path.
This why you shouldn't take Smeds "sandbox" as literal. What Smed consider sandbox is not what many of us consider sandbox.
He has already mentioned Druids so that should tell you that the game has classes.
EQN will be a sandpark hybrid like ArcheAge or Age Of Wushu.
I think Smed has set himself up for a bit of flax by declaring EQN a sandbox mmo.
A lot of sandbox games have had predefined classes. That doesn't change the sandbox nature of the world. Usually in sandbox games tho, you'd be able to respec or change classes. I guess its always a possibility.

He also mentioned permadeath so i would take anything says with a pinch of salt.

Just over four weeks from now these forums are going to explode.
Secondly, I cant wait for Aug. I have a strange feeling the game is going to be alot like ArcheAge, with maybe alittle SWG thrown in there. Also whatever Foundry type system the StoryBricks guys put in there.
ArcheAge has done alot of things right when it comes to the "new sandbox" we will start seeing more of. But of course they dont have any way for players to add in their own content. Thats going to be something huge for SOE, and I hope they and the storybricks guys have a massive Foundry system in place.
Also, I would expect to see classes, but I wouldnt expect you to be stuck in just one. Im thinking more like FF14 here where you can change your class at any time by just changing your equipment. That leaves it more sandbox being anything anytime, but also giving it structure and roles which are needed to complete difficult content.

I have to agree also. Eve Online spoiled me with their no class skill development. I wish more fantasy games would do this.
All my opinions are just that..opinions. If you like my opinions..coolness.If you dont like my opinion....I really dont care. Playing: ESO, WOT, Smite, and Marvel Heroes
I hope there are static classes. I'm really tired of this "You can be everything! At any time! Just flip a switch and you're changed!" ESO is doing that as well. I hope EQN is not. It doesnt feel like you're important when everyone can be what you are. Even if there 1000's of your class also playing, atleast they chose that and didn't just flip an immediate switch.
How about you make classes so good people want to remake a new character to play your game longer? I dont like MMOs shifting into this "you dont really matter because everyone can be everything" mentality. I dont mind respecs and such for a class if there are multiple ways to play them though.
Also, because Everquest Next is a free to play game, they can charge $5 per additional character slot. and only give you 1 slot that is free. I mean, if there were no static classes, there would never be a reason to make a new character right? Except level up with a newbie friend? Who knows. I have no problems paying $5 for an additional slot as support for their game. They gotta get their money somehow being a free to play game and I am totally in favor of that method instead of everyone can do everything.

Well said. People should have to figure that out based on how the gear looks, nothing else.
No classes should however not mean that everyone should be able to have all special abilities and skills at the same time, a nice speccing system is a far better option. If they make something like that I am all for a classless system, but sandbox MMOs have often solved classless mechanics badly in the past and I rather have classes than having tons of identical players.
i would like instead of classes to be out there schools, and every class has the ability to choose any skill, and if want to specialize could join some schools (of warriors/assasins/alchemists/dark arts/ etc ) and in order to achieve these special skills you shall do some kind of quests like hunting a special boss/NPC, exploring some hidden areas/ etc and the normal skills you could aquire or expand them through usage of the weapons/armors, and finally an MMO where the ability to summon fire from the sky is a prestige "rank" and not every noob spams around ...
