You must be delusional.  Fill free to name me a bunch of mmorpg with 400k sub.

Not to mention most player are happy they don't need to pay 15$ a month.

And GW2 obviously have much higher than 300k active players.  Since there are already 300k players with an enourmous amount of AP.  They likely are active till this days.

And tell me which measure in this post isn't worthless and just a guess.  At least mine is slightly better than theirs.

Just an aside to this hypothesis... WvW players, especially dedicated ones, tend to have a lot less achievement points than PvE players. Some that have been playing the game since launch barely have a thousand or two, and they're some of the more active players in the game.

Most mmorpgs in this day and age are not satisfied with 400k subs a month unfortunately, so they try to make changes that hurt more than help in the long run.  Games like Rift, Eve, DAoC, Aion, the EQ games, Tera etc often go above that number at launch or at some point and then die down and end up having to do things like go F2P etc... You shouldn't be happy if the cash shop is only generating 6mill a month.  It's not a good enough ROI for NCSoft at that point, which is why you see a lot of change at Anet... they started changing the game at an accelerated rate because their revenue was dropping at an alarming rate.

As I've said before, no game has a "course correction" less than a year after release if things are going well.  You may be happy with the game and your server, that doesn't mean you shouldn't worry about what will keep ncsoft satisfied enough to keep the game up.

You should also be concerned with their marketing strategy, which is deceptive... and this may be part of the cashgrab mmo mentality, where they use the hype to build a game, stagger releases here and there, but never intend to really keep the game around seriously for more than a couple years.  That might be fine though, for the casual mmo player, but it is quite silly for the real mmo fans, the ones that can really respect games like EQ1 that keep on chugging.

So basically you write that long essay to say every mmorpg are bad.  So even GW2 is better than 99% of the mmorpg listing on this website it is still diong bad?

Just to piggyback that.  I suggest you don't play it like WoW. IMHO it is much more fun to explore than trying to finish a zones tasks/achievements. Eventually you always come back to areas you missed, and you will still get xp even at higher levels. This game isn't designed for quest chains, it is designed for adventuring! :)

Eh... what? No, no... that's not right. I'm basing it off the fact that after raising the population caps for servers you see all servers slowly begin to float their statuses back up. Yes, the top (in this last case) four servers hit full. (Last time it was eight.) In addition to that, though, servers that were knocked down as far as medium worked back up to high then very high as more people came in.  I also base it on the observed phenomena that players can manipulate the status by organizing black out events, which demonstrate the real time log in portion of the status determination.

The increase could just be temporary for the free weekend as well, but I have noticed more players. The culling being removed might have made it more obvious in LA, but even in more remote areas I see people where about 5 months ago I was fairly alone.

This increase is to deal with the added potential population from the weekend, yes. But it's not the only time they've done it, and each time the servers slowly fill the added space.

I dont' think anyone actually knows how the server status system works, unless you work for Anet.  So whatever.

you'll just keep praising Anet and try to give people impression Anet is doing amazing.

On ther other hand there will be other people who try to make Anet look bad.

Which get kind of pointless when people are actually trying to have a discussion.

I agree, all you can do is go by the numbers that are facts, and the facts are that their sales are dropping rapidly quarter on quarter... which is indicative of less business and less players.

  • GODGANONDORFGODGANONDORF Member Posts: 59

Well maybe they growing i dotn care anymore im one of the ones abandoning the game this month, the pressure to keep up with the updates and they adding more hard achievements to get every time to the temporary content makes me dont want to play more, the game as any other mmo is grinding endgame like it or not ,im playing it since release and i loved gw1.

But now this game only endgame for real is getting: skins, achievements and minipets, and im not wrong with grinding or achievemtns chasing but sadly with these updates being temporary many of us will lose more and more of them so at the end my question is: WHY keep playing a game that encourages completition via minis and achievemtns collections if u already forever missed many of them?, why play a game that will be forever incomplete for me?, new updates are just more cosmetical stuff u cannot get because of stress of time,  plus, new players will have lost everything before they began something never happened with gw1, LIVE WORLD? u say yeah right only in the little specific zones they add content but after it goes the old events are there repeating themselves over and over, im ok with the events repeating because u can do them at ur rythm not in a frenetic run!!.

ANYWAY is my opinion, i loved the game till it lasted for me but the way is going not for me sadly was one of my favorite games ever, only way i will comeback is whne they add the posibility of doing everything u mised BUT since they encourage the: "I was there u werent so i feel special attitude" i think that will not happen so GOOD byw gw2 for me sadly :(

Yes and that will continue happening because if u are  a new player these live content makes u feel u missed lot stuff forever, so why buying a game that is incomplete for u since begining?, and people like me who is getting away for the same reason will not give good reviews for it if somebady ask us so yep i hope they keep losing sales, just because they treasoned th emanifesto they presented 12 months ago, and stab me on the back with being forced to play in the little time they want instead of playing my rythm like they promised

I'm taking this a different way. Ok, I'm asking you why did the sales drop 20%? This is the part where I think you are in another world.

Edit: No disrespect! Einstein was in another world also. I just don't get your logic I guess. Sales are going to go down after the initial wave of box sales. I don't see how else you don't see that!

It is a $60 game. Purchase any console game and see what you get for that price. If it bothers you that you can't complete portions of the living story then don't play it. It's the only game with anything like it, so ignore it! :) However, anything you get for free you should never feel you have to do!

Well what do you know... it looks like I was right

Despite a drop in Guild Wars 2's player base following its initial release last year, the game is seeing a slow but steady rise in players following the introduction of bi-weekly updates, lead designer Isaiah Cartwright told Polygon.

"We've been able to stabilize since the post-launch decline, and we're seeing slow but steady growth in concurrent players and also overall," said Cartwright.

I think for anyone actually playing it, this is obvious, even with the culling hiding part of the population.

Especially once the Living world and the better world loot brought more players from dungeons into the world.

    Currently playing: GW2
Going cardboard starter kit: Ticket to ride, Pandemic, Carcassonne, Dominion, 7 Wonders

This is because a major patch was recently released. Every MMO sees growth after a content patch. Usually lasts a 2-4 weeks and the population goes back to normal.

I remember in WoW, a major patch would come out and the population on most servers doubled or tripled in size. Granted, that was pre-cataclysm...that is when I stopped playing. But I assume every major patch sees a spike in population.
