Wish they'd add that as a choice on this site.
And the winner, for the 6th straight year is... None Of The Above! [loud applause]
It looks bad. So far, with 214 votes cast, a whopping 87.4% do not think it is GotY material. I have no offerings in its place, sadly enough...

Personally the only modern MMORPG trend that annoys me is the idea that MMOs need to be designed in a way to attract people who don't actually like MMOs. Which to me makes about as much sense as someone trying to figure out a way to get vegetarians to eat at their steakhouse. - FARGIN_WAR
Um no... but it was quite an enjoyable and unexpected fun house for at least a month. Heck, if its cash shop didn't make babies cry at how horrible it was, it might of garnished even more long term attention as a 'pick me up' type game more often.
It's been my personal favorite MMO to launch this year and I've been playing it religiously since its launch. Sadly unlike most MMO's released over the last 5-6 years that never made it past the 3 month mark.
Sandbox means open world, non-linear gaming PERIOD!
Subscription Gaming, especially MMO gaming is a Cash grab bigger then the most P2W cash shop!
Bring Back Exploration and lengthy progression times. RPG's have always been about the Journey not the destination!!!
PvE was boring. PvP unbalanced - first one shot wins. Issues are never addressed.
Game was fun for about 2 or 3 weeks. I gave up when it was clear they'd rather add cash shops items instead of fix the issues. I spent about 60 dollars on the game at release. So, I'm not a f2p hater. Just hate games that don't respond to glaring issues in a reasonable time frame. Did they ever fix the bot issue that pretty much killed PvP? Not to mention at level 50 everyone just one shot each other. PvE was just a disgrace.
PvE was fine and still remains fine. Nothing beats a good old fashioned dungeon crawler.

So you made this thread to draw out the nay sayers so you could abruptly correct why they dont like it. Sadistic if you ask me.
If you like the game then just play it . Making a poll, for your purpose, is redundant and shows you are just a tiger laying in wait. Get a clue for real.
Worst game I played this year (not just worst MMO worst game). I think I'll let my FFXIV sub lapse but it's still in a totally different league than Neverwinter. Age of Wushu is also way better, also an annoying cash shop but at least the rest of the game is pretty good.
Sad because the Neverwinter foundry is actually a good idea. Too bad the rest of the game sucks ass especially the combat.
I'm wondering if people even like Character progression anymore ? I've personally havent found a fantasy game with half of the progression that Neverwnter is housing ?
MAybe a new thread? What does character progression mean to the modern mmorpg player ?
Character progression hindered by a cash shop with no sub option to allow someone to spend a reasonable amount of money in a reasonable amount of time makes this game unplayable, like all pure no sub F2P games. here's a typical day in NW.

Oh don't forget to stay logged in hour after hour and earn some "currency" to spend on your character.
Oh you forgot to log in today where going to remover some of the other "currency" you earned for being a frequent player.
on and on an on.
You can have your F2P's.
The most unimmersive pieces of crap ever unleashed on the game community. Lets see how much money we can get our players to spend day in and day out. Just no thanks. Its like having a pan handler following you around in your virtual world. You want to just give him 10 bucks to leave you alone but everytime you go to do something hes standing there again with his hand out. "Didn't I give you like 10 bucks a minute ago"? "Haven't I given you like 25 bucks this month? Why are you still here"?

I will say as a "FACT" this is 100% innaccurate description of Neverwinter "now". Maybe at launch, this was the case... but nothing like the above has happened to me since I downloaded the game from Steam.
I find most of the haters say things that strongly suggest they never actually played the game. The just greatly exaggerate based on the feedback of a few others that strongly dislike the game and it all snowballs from there. I call it jumping on the hate train.
My brother is one of the biggest offenders. I always hear from him "oh man, it's all over the forums people complaining about X in Y game!" And then I will go look at the forums and literally see maybe one post about the topic and it not being nearly as bad as he described.

what would be you alternative to MMO : GotY ?
Oh, I don't know...pick any other 2013 launch out of a hat, and chances are it was better. Neverwinter is a disgrace to the Dungeons and Dragons universe.
How ?
Since you bravely want reasons for why Neverwinter Online is subpar i'll happily oblige:
-You can't build a character, sure there's a bunch of WoWish traits but you can't do something as simple as give a Fighter a bow or multi class.
-It's nothing like Neverwinter Nights, other then bits of lore. Which basically means they're using the name as a cash grab(TESO anyone)
-The game is a hack and slash diablo/GW2 type game with 0 immersion. AKA a disgrace to the D&D universe like he pointed out.
-The game encourages solo over grouping. Granted MMO's have sadly devolved into this but the opposite of D&D nonetheless.
-Very few classes/weapons/builds in a series that prides itself in variety
-No reason to actually play this game. GW2 combat is more crisp and refined and DDO is much closer to D&D(never thought I'd say that).
-Sitting in one place as you jump from instance to instance does not D&D make. This is something from DDO they should never have copied and the main reason that game failed. Lack of open world = opposite of D&D by default.
Well, since no Wildstar release this year... for me:
1. Final Fantasy XIV: ARR
2. Neverwinter
3. Age of Wushu
This list is really cringe worthy. FFXIV:ARR is mediocre at best in almost all aspects of the game and Neverwinter is fun for a bit but suffers from a lot of problems amongst them a very poor F2P system. Age of Wushu was terrible in my opinion but I can't really think of a MMO that deserves a number 3 spot that released this year Overall it's been a really poor year for MMOs. No really noteworthy titles released at all this year. Fortunately 2014 is looking good.
I think the problem for me in this game is that the characters seem so shallow, and what skill choices there are seem bland. The fact that all characters look like every other character of the same class is rather uninspiring too. I realise there are outfits in the cash shop but I've yet to notice someone wearing one, so either they aren't selling well or they just aren't that distinctive.
The weakest part of the game for me is the quest chains, which are the same for every character you make and which are so linear they may as well be on rails. I still play the game but mostly just while I grab a coffee and snack.

This is what scares me.

Fine, we'll compromise. I'll get my way & you'll find a way to be okay with that.
I was going to vote no.. but.. We really didn't get anything worth remembering this year it seems.. At least i didn't.
Neverwinter was pretty good, stuck like 200 hours into it, but the dungeons where to poorly made to last.
I'd say path of exile, but i don't really consider Lobby games a MMO personally.
Neverwinter game of the year? Hell no, but MMO of the year..? Sadly.. Maybe so

Why start a poll if you are going to argue with everyone who doesn't vote the way you want?

Age of Wushu/Wulin
Innovative, almost groundbreaking. Neverwinter is a good game but it has nothing on the potential of Wushu.
