no did you read what i posted in the begging? Lets say you have an account on SWTOR and you are a free player and it gets hacked. what is the first thing you do? talk to customer support, oh wait you cant because you are not a subscriber. therefore you cannot play and have to make a new account. so no you dont come out ahead....
You're still able to contact account support by phone
they wouldn't do anything i'm betting and if they did it would be impressive. they would pretty much laugh at you then say "did you check our FAQ?" then hang up

I play Warframe, Rift, City of Steam, STO..... and a lot of others.. Out of all the free to play games that i have played Rift is number 1 out of all them.. There free to play model is so good that it makes you want to spend money, lol..... Warframe is number 2... You don't need to spend a dime on that game but it makes you want to spend money on it.. This is how a free to play model should be....

"Fear & Desire are weapons in my life's pursuit" @KrewellaJahan
Out of all the free to play games SWTOR has the worst one.. They shoundn't even be free to play lol.. What a scam.... Its like they made the free to play so a player can just play through the story and that's all.. ....
You're telling me you have complete access to a story with 8 full voiced over story arcs, at an estimated 20 hours of unique story per, totaling an INSANE 160 hours of AAA developed RPG story line for 100% free, and that's not enough FREE for you?
Come on man!
it is not AAA at all and it is not 100% free with the release of Rise of the Hutt Cartel. thus making it a P2P game again. the Free-to-Play model is complete crap. on a scale of 1-10 10 being the best it is at -1000 because the game sucks so much
"Fear & Desire are weapons in my life's pursuit" @KrewellaJahan
No. Since its a glorified free trial with no time limit and a chance to play up to the first 50 lvls for free.
The problem is of course when that affects the enjoyment of the game... I think they should have a package that treats the account as a real free trial as well. So a character has access to all the benefits of p2p for a week (real free trial), just like a free trial then go back to f2p.
Would be better for players of swtor, and makes players experience the difference... which is not much, which is why f2p is a good deal as a glorified 'free trial'.
Write bad things that are done to you in sand, but write the good things that happen to you on a piece of marble

Why not just switch over to Trions Free-to-Play model for Rift. that is one of the best ones i have seen

What he said about Rift. As far as SWTOR. My best advice for you is to come back to SWTOR when you can pay the monthly sub. All the restrictions are gone when you do. For now, give rift or Tera a shot.
i did and i didnt like Tera's targeting system as for rift i got up to level 41 on a pvp server and uninstalled it so i could install other games

No. It is not too much. It is a free world. There is no "too much" or "too little" in general. EA is free to put whatever restriction they want on games they own.
Players, OTOH, have the freedom of not to bother with such games.
Personally i don't play TOR, but i fully support EA's right to do whatever with their property.

SWTOR F2P is a painful experience not worth going through. If you can't afford to pay a thing then just avoid it. It's not that great even if you can afford to pay for it, but F2P gets to feel like being tortured after a while. Still, it IS Free to Play, if you're into that kind of thing, companies do have to make money or close shop.
The restrictions are the reason why I quit. I can't play like that.
Did you switch to another game? and if so what game?
I played SWTOR for the first few months. After that I went to Skyrim. I just downloaded Path of Exile. But I got several games for Christmas, so not sure when I'll try it.
If you start as a free player, the game is indeed unplayable. If, on the other hand, you start as a sub for one month, get a character to max level and gear him up decently (all of these are incredibly easy), you're set for a practically free game.
After you get "preferred" status, the game opens a lot. All I did was buying one month's sub and then the "Hutt" expansion (being a sub allowed me, at that time, to buy the expansion at half price). I've bought everything I'll ever need from the auction house (GTN), with ingame currency. Unlocked everything: full bars, full inventory, bank etc. All i "need" now is weekly passes for raids and pvp (instances are free to enter to complete the weekly quests, and you won't need gear from instances after a while). I don't actually even "farm" ingame currency, it comes naturally from weekly missions and raids. I don't need it anyway, and I'm not a big fan of clothes and speeders.
My opinion is that subscribers actually get too little compared with what can be unlocked with ingame money, without much effort.
I'm not playing the game anymore, but just because of lack of content and the fact that my guild became inactive.
not at all.. i think EA knows their game is a pile of steaming shit as they lost so many players shortly after launch they had to fix the issue asap and they did that by making it free 2 play to encourage the broke and needy to play their game because the good paying gaming citizens of the online world began to refuse to pay for something so epic in failure.
A game that cost this much to make thats been this badly ruined needs to a bail out option, that option was a cash shop based restricted free to play.. its also why the game was fashioned after knights of the old republic and not starwars. they new the older more mature and level headed starwars fans wouldnt swallow the shit so it was a huge gamble to take to make a real starwars game so instead they played safe and stuck with the knights of the old republic kids version of the modern day and made it work and play just like world of warcraft because they know wow works and they know knights of the old republic works.. what they didnt think about was if people where willing to pay monthly for a game that is usually explicitly restricted to offline single player play... lo0l the result was ummm ofcourse they where not willing!!! its why the game now has a free to play.
they are dangling the proverbial carrot infront of the kids noses.. these kids still dont understand that money makes the world go round which is why EA targets them. they are relying on kids sulking to their mums and dads to pay for their subs so they can unlock all the features of the game..
fantastic business etiquette!!!
why please the minority online gaming community when you can drag the offline gamers online and increase the community with nothing more than a solo game with the chance to play with other people if they wish. its why swtor is so rediculously easy. its why there is no challange. its why it has companions. its why they put a voice over story system into the game.
bioware didnt design the game EA did. bioware just put their list of features together in their own little way.
its about money and nothing more. as of now developers do not care about product.. their primary interest is sales and proffit which is perfectly normal. sure it will make us old school players not want to play mmo's again. but on the flip side its making the mmo business a far mroe proffitable one. and thats all that matters.
when you start a business in real life. you try to find something that a majority of people will want!! its the same mentality. we can all cry and sulk crap game or childs game but the truth is they dont give a shit as their are more children than grown ups on the planet. thats a world wide known fact.the average adult over the age of 20 has atleast 1 child!!! the average adult over the age of 30 has 2-3 children or more. the average adult over 40 is thought to have 3 or more children with some families having upto 5 or more.
i know of people who have more than 10 children.
now ask your selves !!! if you owned swg!!! who would you rather sell your game to.. the working adults who go out drinking with friends or for meals that have other hobbies and interests and are not utterly taken in by modern games!!! or the vast majority of children who are still overwhelmed with cartoon style images, loud noises and completely fake fantasy and high entertainment products.
its why you buy your kids all the latest gadgets and games for christmas rather than a thermos steel flask or pair of fleece lined hiking socks. its why you got your kids the xbox one or ps4 rather than a nice warm water proof coat and wellies.
its not about making the perfect game for the old school elite crowds that gave gaming its life.. today its all about cashing in on it. and it will be this way until it dies because something far more entertaining came to be such as spaceships for every one that are as cheap as cars. or a third world war.
this is my pledge to the older gaming community!!!!
If by any chance of a miracle!! lol i win this saturdays national lottery draw , i promise i will start building the ultimate adult sandbox title that would bore the shit out of children but completelty dominate a grown ups life. it will have everything to the point that its available if you have the patience to go and get it. and ill do it for 9.99 a month it would take roughly 5 years to build the entire game, but i would build in sections releasing one poliched and complete module at a time so players had reasons to stick around and keep playing. expansions would be utterly free and no cash shops of any kind. no world auction houses. no group finders! only local chat!! no zone chat or world chat. the most indepth and comprhensive crafting system ever devised.. better than swg!! millions of blue prints to give an unimagined level of customisation.
the graphics will be alright !! but not OTT the work will go into the game, no voice over shit, no story, open world guilg v guild pvp. no npc towns. by guild v guild i mean you have to be in a guild to pvp. for a guild to own land and build on it they would need an alliance with a set number of member guilds and other restrictions so its not just one player owning vast amounts of land.. player owned towns and cities are completely destructable.(no take either as this means the conquering force would have to start from scratch, this means if your not the most dedicated team of guilds then you stand a good chance of loosing your land.) it keeps empty cities and houses out of the game. (remember how swg was)
but i have to win first or some one with money could always do it. this kind of game would thrive obviously alot more aspects to it in terms of leveling or training and so on.
Call me crazy but I don't see a problem with the F2P model of swtor. Games aren't cheap to make or run and they have to lure people into buying and subs somehow. If you could access most of the game when you want and how you want for free then why bother paying and then who pays the bills. Yes you have to pay for almost every little thing unless you get a sub but games like WoW for instance don't even have a F2P model. F2P models like swtor are really more of unlimited time length trials to try and push you to subbing. They hope you get hooked for a bit, some spend some money on cartel coins, then realize every month you spend so much on CC that you sub.
My issue is that as a sub you still get so much pressure to pay more in the cartel market so you *stay cool*. IMO they market should have almost nothing a sub can't get for free and that doesn't mean dishing out 20 mill for some rare item from a pack as *free* to subs.
I don't think a single sane person thinks the restrictions on free/preferred players in SWTOR is okay.
I think its ok. And yes i am sane. People need to realise it is like an extended trial and for full game you have to pay 15 bucks a month. No such thing as free in this world.

To be honest I feel all FTP mmorpgs should follow this pattern I believe that catering to freeloaders is not a positive step for mmorpgs. In my opinion the only valid reason for a ftp model is to allow people to trial the game and for that purpose the restrictions placed by SWTOR makes sense. Play the game for a few levels if you like it PAY FOR IT.
These games need steady revenue to enable them to develop and grow so I am sorry but I have no sympathy for people protesting that they want more for nothing.
