Fast travel ( especially teleporting to players) = no buy
I guess you wouldn't play any of the singleplayer TES titles then.
Im playing Morrowind at the moment.
I'm playing Morrowind too and it has fast travel also - Silt Striders, boats and the mage's guild teleportation not to mention the teleport scrolls and spells you learn. It's not that big of a deal man let it go and don't fast travel if you don't want to.
It looks very Elders Scrolls and I can see it having an appeal to die hard Elder Scrolls fans.
Personally, I would not be able enjoy this game, due to bad combat animations, bland colors and irritating screen shake.
I m a huge ES fan, but damn I hated TESO, the combat sucked, IMO.
Are you sure you're a huge TES fan then? Because Morrowind's combat was utter crap, Oblivion's is pretty bad as well. Skyrim has very empty strikes as well. Only reason that Skyrim's combat felt alright was because of the sound assets. Something that was missing during their show of the game in Cologne.
I'm getting a bit tired of all the people claiming to be "Huge Elder Scrolls fans" and then proceeds to complain about some feature that's really weak in all Elder Scrolls games. Like the fellow complaining about fast travel.
His argument will most likely be "Well, I don't use it in Morrowind". But he won't have to use it in TESO either. It's an option, just like in all the other TES games.

Well, Morrowind has fast travel. So does Arena, Daggerfall, Oblivion and Skyrim.
It is limited and in order to used it you actually have to walk up to the point that offers the service. You do not get a "developer map" and make your way across the world with a click.
Oh, I guess you refused to play Oblivion and Skyrim then?
Mate, I agree with you, I dislike fast travel too. Even in TES IV and V. But I rarely used them, I just walked because I knew I could discover more interesting locations and treasures. I usually walked in Morrowind too. But your logic is so awfully flawed. "It has fast-travel, that means I'll hate it" yet you still play TES games.

Lol as similar as TESOs combat is to the 3 , it s also way different. Yes I m a big ES fan, and yes, on a standpoint from the melee, it sucked compared to the ES games.

Exactly.
Wow, that's pretty petty.
Kind of sad, really. That you can't enjoy a game if a single feature doesn't fit your standards. Especially since it's such a tiny difference between Morrowind's and Oblivion's fast travel.

It's better than Oblivion's combat, I can tell you that for sure. The only difference is that you can't avoid projectiles as easily as you could in Oblivion. But no, your not a fan. Fans don't play TES games for their combat. No one plays TES for the combat.
Only negative I have is the Over the shoulder viewpoint in 3rd person. Hated it in Skyrim and Defiance so hopefully Modder's will be able to place that reticule over the head at all times. And yes I realize you can scroll all the way out to place it over the head but for me that opens up the F.O.V. too wide.
Sandbox means open world, non-linear gaming PERIOD!
Subscription Gaming, especially MMO gaming is a Cash grab bigger then the most P2W cash shop!
Bring Back Exploration and lengthy progression times. RPG's have always been about the Journey not the destination!!!

Only reason why Skyrim's combat was better was because it actually supported 3rd person view.
Still wasn't nothing to write home about without some serious Modding though. I used no less then 5 Mods to give Skyrim's Combat a lot of oomph!

Originally posted by Rockniss Dare I let myself actually become excited for this? I thisatisfieust do that, they have been open enough and at this point my expectations I think are realistic. They are not the same expectations I had when I first heard "ESO" but those expectations were impossible toaachieve. Time to dig in a little deeper to ESO.
That highlighted part right there is one of the main reasons we cannot have good things. People get brainwashed into accepting low quallity stuff.
People can offer free beer to forum users here and still people would be pissed. And we can't have "good things" because of free to play. Ever looked into why your never satisfied? It's because your expectations are out of this world.
Still not sure about this game, not sure if this is going to have GW2 like endgame or traditional themepark endgame. I've tested out every major MMO that's come out since SWTOR, and always returned to my first MMO. That said don't think I'm going to hop on this one, going to wait and see what this game offers.

Your loss then because you missed some of the best RPG fun because of your petty reasons. Even when all you have to do is 'to not use the fast travel'. But i guess unless developers do not force you into a specific kind of gameplay, you are incapable of making decisions on your own. i mean how hard can it be to not use fast travel option.

You claim to be a Elder Scrolls fan, yet you haven't played but 50% of the title games..... LOL
I will waste no time on your non-fandom self... you are not a fan.
Originally posted by Arkade99 I'm guessing that people who didn't like the melee combat didn't use stuff like block, interrupt and heavy attack.
That is not the reasons people are saying the melee combat is weak. It had no impact value to it's swings. The animations were lack-luster. As far as the core combat mechanics it is good.
MORE MORE MORE GJ at last Zenimax GOOD JOB show more people already are hyped by some so called beta testers that game is trash show more.
I want to play right now .
WTF morrowind has a fast travel? LOL it has those insect or boats but it never had teleport. Plus in morrowind way it dont is not immersion breaking at all. Some time you can spend 5 hours trying to found some quests.
What I'm wondering in ESO is if the ranged aiming is off in 3rd person. In Oblivion and Skyrim I always melee in 3rd person but I have to switch to 1st person to be accurate with the bow. Is ranged viable and accurate in 3rd person in ESO?
"O Im so awsome because of this I must post a retarded comment abotu the game i hate because i'm unicue and cool and every one love me "
To people with this mind set FUCK OFF you nothing and nobody care what a Rage baby says behind monitor. Cry me a river haters.
Oh the irony.
The people comparing fast travel from a single player to an MMO boggle me as well.
Fast travel is not compulsory you know...you could walk everywhere if that's what's important to you.... alternatively, you can whine about it and say deep things in forums such as "teh fail!"

The gameplay is looking very solid. Combat seems fluid, animations don't look stiff, and the aesthetics show signs of being cohesive. One thing I appreciate greatly is how clean the screen is throughout the entirety of the clip. Particle effects don't appear to get in the way as much as say Guild Wars 2, and the UI is minimalistic, with non-existent clutter. It definitely gives off the impression that the players were focused on the encounter at hand and not on the UI elements. I can only hope the AvA system proves to be fun and that character building is complex and not overly restrictive.
Originally posted by Margulis I will say again the ranged combat is pretty much fine and solid, which is probably why they made the video with ranged mostly. I'm guessing they are still polishing up the melee because that is what played bad and had the most complaints - by far - to do with combat. They have 3 months to get melee solid, obviously we'll know more come next beta.
Melee was pretty floaty, unresponsive and non-visceral....I don't think this will get any better without using Motion Capture to improve animations and without using some tricks of the trade to increase responsiveness and weight. TBH Archery wasn't that good either.
What I'm wondering in ESO is if the ranged aiming is off in 3rd person. In Oblivion and Skyrim I always melee in 3rd person but I have to switch to 1st person to be accurate with the bow. Is ranged viable and accurate in 3rd person in ESO?
Bow is very to use in third person, because of soft/hard locking on the target, either mouse other and get the soft sticky lock or press tab to get a hard lock and it homes in on the target.
I don't know for sure, but I would assume the magic staff attacks work the same way.
Some abilities might not use the locking, but the early ones appeared to (either take or latency was making it look like they were locking on).
Guys, discussing any aspects of the beta is not allowed. You should know this by now. Had to clean up a few blatant discussions in this thread already.
