Are you sure you're a huge TES fan then? Because Morrowind's combat was utter crap, Oblivion's is pretty bad as well. Skyrim has very empty strikes as well. Only reason that Skyrim's combat felt alright was because of the sound assets. Something that was missing during their show of the game in Cologne.
I'm getting a bit tired of all the people claiming to be "Huge Elder Scrolls fans" and then proceeds to complain about some feature that's really weak in all Elder Scrolls games. Like the fellow complaining about fast travel.
His argument will most likely be "Well, I don't use it in Morrowind". But he won't have to use it in TESO either. It's an option, just like in all the other TES games.
About TES combat system, it's either you like it or you hate it.
I like TES combat, it is different from any other mainstream RPG, and to me it is one of the trademark of TES.
Many people complained over the years about TES combat being too clunky, but Bethesda never budged and kept the combat consistent (more or less) throughout the whole series (this is an example of how Bethesda does it its own way...............just linking to the other thread BTW).
But I don't get how people can complain about ESO having fast travel since TES introduced fast travel in RPGs with Daggerfall in 1996 (together with mounts and housing)
A real TES fan should not complain about an ESO feature that is also integral part of the TES series, that's just pure whining, this is not constructive criticism.
I agree about the ES single player combat. I enjoy it too, feels real.
I don't mind fast travel, I'm glad they have implemented it the way they did. First and foremost they're games not a virtual worlds. If you want to treat it like the former you can by not using fast travel.
Why don't we just get of the world all together? See how your 'games, not virtual worlds' argument looks silly here?
Let's just all play counterstrike. We can sit and lobbies and pop dungeons together. No? Didn't think so.
I will never understand people who wont play a game based on some minor feature such as fast travel. I mean, if you dont like it, then dont use it?!
Anyway, people can do as they like.
It is a major feature. Just because you don't have the ability to recognize that it affects more than just travel, that doesn't mean it isn't important. It means you need to think a little harder.
Looks great, indeed. But ... I'm very sceptical about that silly low number of active keys. Main reason i left TSW and why I'm not returning. It is impossible for game to be anything but button masher with 5 to 7 keys. I do not wan't at all to think about that horror when mouse buttons are used for 2 attack options.
And second ... i no longer - since wheel ... ekhm, ... tab targeting :-) was invented - enjoy games with targeting recticle.
So no matter how good, actually great, it may look ... i have my doubts I will buy and play. Many will enjoy exactly because of this features, but they are just not for me.
Elder Scrolls Online fans will want to check out the latest developer video from Zenimax as the team takes everyone on a tour of Tamriel from a group perspective. See what you think and leave us a comment or two.
My marriage is in peril when this title releases. By the way, for those who complain about fast travel lessening the pve experience (while this is true to some extent)...in Asheron's Call 1 and 2...(since 2000/2004), their portal travel really added a lot to the game. It actually was awesome. So - definitely happy about this.
Fast travel ( especially teleporting to players) = no buy
Guessing you come from the more recent era of gaming? With all respect, you ever play Asheron's Call? Portals add heaps to travel in a massive world. My guess is you aren't aware of the sheer size of this game's world (put a few of the Elder Scrolls maps together with Skyrim and you start to have a picture).
I get that you might be thinking of where Dark Age of Camelot went wrong with quick travel between keeps - (post portal keep era)...and folks just about vanished on ground. This I agree with. If it's for pvp acquisition, then folks should be forced to butt heads.
So I'm not the only one who saw The Elder Scrolls: Rift?
Ok.
Ha, fair enough, ESO rift, with Never Winter Nights ground effect warnings, and DC Universe Online with all classes being able to roll all over the place.
Yeah, not happy about some aspects but Ill play it anyway since nothing but WOW Gear Score Grouping or turd exists in the industry.

I guess you wouldn't play any of the singleplayer TES titles then.
Im playing Morrowind at the moment.
Oh, what a ground breaking game! I'll bet that's all your computer can play. So you were never interested in ESO to begin with were you? And NO I don't expect a truthful answer...
Its just that saying you will refuse to buy a game just because it has "fast travel" destroys your credibility. There's got to be some other reason that you aren't capable of admitting to us.

If I had a lot of time on my hands I would love to go back and replay Morrowind or some of the old Baldur's Gate games.
While fast travel isn't so much of an issue for me, I can kind of understand it. When there is no or very limited fast travel, the journey becomes more of a focus. When you can jump back and forth on a whim, instead of exploring that cave over there because it will be hard to get back where you are, you know you can just teleport back so you say screw it. It means you can get away with speeding around everywhere instead of valuing the moment and the place you are in.

Folks say this about GW2 also. Simple enough fix, just don't use it if you don't like it.
Death is nothing to us, since when we are, Death has not come, and when death has come, we are not.
