Fast travel ( especially teleporting to players) = no buy
You can't teleport to players. Apparently you weren't paying attention when they described it in the video. There are wayshrines in strategic locations across the map. You can only teleport to those positions. You can only teleport to a player if they are standing by the wayshrine that you are teleporting to. Not only that, it costs gold to use the service. It's not free. You can't teleport to dungeons either. They are a fair distance apart from each other, so you will have to choose the closest one, and then run to your destination.

Well apparently I'm wrong then. You can teleport to a group member according to that video. Horrible design choice. Something I will not be partaking in. People can complain all they want while waiting for me to run the extra twenty feet to get to them from a wayshrine. Put a damn spell in the game, and allow people to summon players. Don't create a stupid artificial system to bypass all of the work world designers did.
The travel example in the video was the fast travel to a wayshrine of your choice. Travel to player teleports you to the nearest wayshrine of the group member.
Ok no more feeding the trolls, so the game play was really really good looking imo. I cant wait to make it to higher levels so i can do stuff like that. I wonder if you will get expensive crafting items or just gear when you complete stuff like that?
What I'm wondering in ESO is if the ranged aiming is off in 3rd person. In Oblivion and Skyrim I always melee in 3rd person but I have to switch to 1st person to be accurate with the bow. Is ranged viable and accurate in 3rd person in ESO?
Bow is very to use in third person, because of soft/hard locking on the target, either mouse other and get the soft sticky lock or press tab to get a hard lock and it homes in on the target.
I don't know for sure, but I would assume the magic staff attacks work the same way.
Some abilities might not use the locking, but the early ones appeared to (either take or latency was making it look like they were locking on).
Ahh, thanks for the answer. I didn't know ESO used a combo of sticky lock and homing arrows. I guess it makes sense sort of since it would nearly be impossible, or at least really lucky to hit someone with arrows at a decent range in PVP without it.
i am fine with the fast travel, but i hope at least they also include mounts ( horses etc ) for those who prefer to just explore, just like in any other TES games
other than that, i think the game looks solid, maybe not the best graphics around, but i think the game will keep me busy for a very long time at least!
So the first part of the Vid, the 2 man, the melee guy dies. The second part 1 archer and 3 casters(1 in hvy armor), no one engages in melee, just spell spam. So it's a nuke fight? I am having WAR flashbacks... Hopefully they will get some melee videos up.
Seems they have beefed up the animations since the last round of videos. Nothing amazing, but I definitely wouldn't be put off from trying the game in its current state. Animations are still a bit too floaty, reminds me of GW2 or The Elder Scrolls on Ice. Ice skating all over the shop.
Are you sure you're a huge TES fan then? Because Morrowind's combat was utter crap, Oblivion's is pretty bad as well. Skyrim has very empty strikes as well. Only reason that Skyrim's combat felt alright was because of the sound assets. Something that was missing during their show of the game in Cologne.
I'm getting a bit tired of all the people claiming to be "Huge Elder Scrolls fans" and then proceeds to complain about some feature that's really weak in all Elder Scrolls games. Like the fellow complaining about fast travel.
His argument will most likely be "Well, I don't use it in Morrowind". But he won't have to use it in TESO either. It's an option, just like in all the other TES games.
About TES combat system, it's either you like it or you hate it.
I like TES combat, it is different from any other mainstream RPG, and to me it is one of the trademark of TES.
Many people complained over the years about TES combat being too clunky, but Bethesda never budged and kept the combat consistent (more or less) throughout the whole series (this is an example of how Bethesda does it its own way...............just linking to the other thread BTW).
But I don't get how people can complain about ESO having fast travel since TES introduced fast travel in RPGs with Daggerfall in 1996 (together with mounts and housing)
A real TES fan should not complain about an ESO feature that is also integral part of the TES series, that's just pure whining, this is not constructive criticism.

I agree about the ES single player combat. I enjoy it too, feels real.
I don't mind fast travel, I'm glad they have implemented it the way they did. First and foremost they're games not a virtual worlds. If you want to treat it like the former you can by not using fast travel.

Melee always requires more situational awareness than ranged (unless game developers decide to build encounters that can engage ranged players as readily as they do melee).
If you're standing next to something and it decides to attack you, it just turns and starts swinging - you've got to react immediately. But if you're ranged, you'll see it turn toward you and start it's march in your direction which gives you time to cast another spell or two, run about and maybe dodge if you have to. So melee players will die more often unless they build for survival or are more aware of what's happening.
Let's not forget, just because someone is developing a game doesn't necessarily mean they're a good gamer, they might be terrible players, but great coders/designers/ etc.
Looking better, but still just looks so disorganized and chaotic/spammy.
I like a game with very solid trinity in place, I guess I'll have to wait and see or try and try it out myself.
There is a trinity, don't worry.
It looks chaotic because it is an action combat system like all modern MMOs, but if your group don't abide the rules of trinity (AKA if the Tank doesn't hold aggro or doesn't raise the shield at the right time), the group will wipe pretty fast.
ESO combat is similar to TERA, but without the rooting in place, that's all I can say.
Ok quick, really dumb stupid question....what is a NDA, I'm assuming Non-disclosure Agreement..? And is that with the game company or with the website? I would think it would be with the game developers so wondering why a moderator is enforcing it for the forum?
Game looks pretty solid, this just came on my radar in the last month or so, so haven't looked at it to much. Haven't played any of the other TES games, mainly because to my knowledge they just regular RPG's and I get tired of solo games, I'm a multiplayer gamer through and through.
To me I think I will pick it up and give it a shot, looks like a lot of fun, although I agree the video seems to show rift 2.0. Seems way to similiar IMHO, although I am a bit biased cause I played rift for the first 2-3 months and absolutely hated it.
The only way I won't pick this up is if Archage comes out first and really grabs me, although they seem like 2 very different games so we will see. Would love to see more grouping videos but as I said, haven't done much research at all so I don't know whats out there. Grouping is what gets me investing years in games, so really looking for that myself.
Mate, I agree with you, I dislike fast travel too. Even in TES IV and V. But I rarely used them, I just walked because I knew I could discover more interesting locations and treasures. I usually walked in Morrowind too. But your logic is so awfully flawed. "It has fast-travel, that means I'll hate it" yet you still play TES games.
That's true, more happens in the world and one experiences more if you don't use fast travel.
Like in Obvlion when I saw the leader of Bruma with a guard making the trip to visit her sister.
Or in Skyrim when I am attacked by cultists or High elves or when I am suddenly beseiged by two dragons.
so, can't talk about beta but at PAX I learned that one found quests by heading out into the world. Now, this is not the same as "finding places" but if one does want to do quests then heading out into the world is definitely the way to go.
As skyrim stands now, I still actively play it but have made the move to no longer use any type of fast travel.
makes me laugh to myself but I wonder how many skyrim players ever "walked" across skyrim. I actually found two "role play" reasons to do it so I decided "what the hell".
Riften to Solitude and an intended Dragon Bridge to Fort Dawnguard. That one had to end prematurely becuase the NPC just "stopped".
Like Skyrim? Need more content? Try my Skyrim mod "Godfred's Tomb."

have a good one buddy....bye bye now...

It's not as it looks.............. it is not like GW2 at all.
I can't be specific because of the NDA, but you cannot do that indefinitely.
Players don't have an "free" insta-rezz skill like in GW2, and Healers have Cool Downs.
There is something else, but you gonna know what it is when you will play the game or they lift the NDA.
Im not sure either since I loved melee combat in ESO
Looks really good. Like how the devs speak casually to each other.
