One day the devs will actually listen to our comments, and make SWTOR more attractive so that a lot more people will want to play it. That is my intention. I am not here to bash the game, but improve / enhance it. Everyone else just wants the game to stay what is - mediocre / sub par / boring / constrictive.
if not SWTOR then another MMO, and Smedley is the only one listening, although yet has to prove he can pull it off.

Yeah, I love the claim that "a lot more people will want to play" if they just make the game more like a game that was substantially less popular.

I do not tthink STO is a good game either, but it has more replayability than SWTOR, and has more support than SWTOR with the cast of Star Trek getting involved, getting expanded every other month. Plus no one I know plays SWTOR, but they do play STO
/facepalm
you do realize there is more of a world out there then what you think and who you talk to right? Swtor has more players on one side of one server then STO has in the entire game. Big deal they are getting a couple old (seems to be a pattern with you) actors to continue their horrible awkward cutscenes dialog.
Back when he first mentioned STO cutscenes I checked the game out because those weren't there at release. They were pitiful. Characters mouths were flapping and didn't match the dialog. It was like watching an old Godzilla movie.Hardly anything to crow about.
I do hate the game, why, because it was extremely disappointing from my point of view, any time I log in a game and stand around for a hour out of boredom then the game has failed me.
Any time you spend an hour doing something you don't enjoy which you could have spent doing something you did enjoy, you've failed yourself.

I honestly think the easiest way answer that is to make the question more specific. Not simply "What is TOR doing right," but "What is TOR doing right that other MMOs aren't." There are a lot of MMOs that have done most of the same things right that WoW did, but never managed to be even a blip on the radar as far as becoming massive money makers.
I really think it's all about two things; the class stories, and the full voice acting. That's it. There are other elements that are good enough that a fair number of people stick around once they've got their level 55s, but not so good that they would have bothered to stay long enough to hit the cap in the first place if the class story and voice weren't present. Regardless of what you think of the narrative quality of the class stories as measured against some objective standard, they are better, broader, and deeper than any other narrative available in a released MMORPG.
The interesting test, to me, is going to be seeing what happens after ESO has been out a few months, because I suspect it is going to be almost as strong on narrative grounds as TOR, slightly stronger on the voice acting, and substantially stronger in every other element of the game.
Not really, I couldnt say i gave it a real try if i didnt spend some time on the game.
I partly agree with the class stories and voice acting, other elements such as companion's are all factors to the games success imo.

^This.
SWTOR is a solid MMO. Sure, it lacks some features other games have but the class storylines are great and the group content is challenging and fun. PvP is mostly enjoyable aside from it being gear-based but what MMO isn't. Galactic starfighter is a great addition for those who have been wanting off rails space combat. I think alot of people who are critical of the game never really gave it a fair shake. The first 30 days after launch left bad taste in their mouth or the F2P model was too restrictive for their liking. It's certainly not the best MMO ever made but its still quite enjoyable.
I have given SWTOR a godd fair shake as have been playing it since launch on and off. The only good thing about SWTOR is the storylines. BUT you can get a lot better in other games like Dragon Age or Mass Effect without paying more than the box. I do not look for great storylines in MMOs

Not really.
LOTRO is not a sandbox and does not suck. There are so many missions and side quests in that you do not get to do the same quest so frequently, it has more / better seasonal events, has player housing, and better crafting
Being able to repeat some past missions could be start, like you can do in STO, and get rewarded with items that are to your level. Also STO has a much better space game than SWTOR, and STO is not a sandbox either
Those actually are good suggestions IMO, not what I was expecting given the vehement hate towards the game on these forums at times.
My SWTOR referral link for those wanting to give the game a try. (Newbies get a welcome package while returning players get a few account upgrades to help with their preferred status.)

Yes it is. Good thing that the game ALREADY allows you to repeat every heroic mission in the game along with every flashpoint for which there are many.

Flashpoints and Heroics are only good if you have other people to play with, considering none of my online friends play SWTOR and I do not like playing with strangers then they are not doable unless out levelled and then it is pointless. I want to b e able repeat the story missions (not all of them, some are pretty good and those will be the ones) which are a lot lot more than the flashpoints and heroics.

Doing right for whom? The gamers or the investors? Rhetorical questions of course...
They are milking the fans of one of the biggest, if not the biggest, IP on the planet with the F2P scam model & advertizing it like a plague everywhere on the interweb.
Not that hard to figure out really.
No, no other SW games was ever advertized as much as this one by a long shot & on top of that, being free as to hook the suckers in their hamster Wheel.
It could have been an ok single player game with coop option though. But only if it was fully featuerd & sold for the box price only.
To each their own I guess.
Players...about 500k subs and around 1.7 million f2pers so it's a success for gamers yep. Investors....f2p alone brought in well over $100 million in revenue and they are currently profitable success for investors yep. Well thanks for stopping by and jumping on the hater wagon it's always fun to inform the ones on that wagon.
Being a SW fan & clicking on an ads a gamer it doesn't make. Just a cluless casual that doesn't know better.
Though, like I said, to each their own.
Being another simplistic hand holding casual trash is enough for me to say it isn't a gamers game, but a money grab.
Since gaming became mainstream, who would blame them. A fool & his money are soon parted... & god knows there is a lot of them in this new market.
The question was "What SWToR doing right?" Sorry you didn't like my answer.
Now, good day sir. Not going to argue with you any further, that would be pointless.
Oh I'm not arguing with you I'm educating you with facts from a video game. You asked "doing right from whom, gamers or investors" I gave you facts that say it's doing right to both. Sorry you don't like facts.
Hey! I'm back... So why not indulge myself a bit more.
The only right answer to my question was "Investors" my friend, thats why it was rhetorical/not really a question.
Numbers doesn't make facts... You can make them say whatever suits your need.
I'll give facts:
- Millions eat at McDonalds even though its bad for them. Its known to be unhealthy, if not toxic. Why? Because the sheeple are easily influence by mass advertizing. Thats it. Eating there doesn't make them food enthusiast, just clueless fools wanting to be part of the herd. "There's adds everywhere, it must be good!" Thats the farthest their unused critical thinking braincells are able to go. These are the kind of people that you can sell less for more while making them say thank you for it.
- Advertizing/marketing (or the science of parting a fool from its money) is a HUGE multi billion industry working against the commun folk for the suits/investors. It spends hundreds of million in psychological studies & mass trending campaign to manipulate what people think, want & feel.
In light of those facts ( Do you understand what facts are now?), the main thing that SWToR does right is mass advertizing the most popular IP on the planet, lining up the pockets of investor full of money they scamed out of clueless sheeple using what they learned from there million dollars psychological mind trick studies.
Very little as been made right for gamers there I'm afraid. Sorry.
McDonald's doesn't operate in a vacuum. There are competitors to McDonalds in the same space as McDonalds. Burger King, Hardees, even Taco Bell. If McDonalds is #1 in their market, then they are providing the best product at the best price. SWToR doesn't operate in a vacuum either. There are other games that people could play, with fewer cash shop restrictions. That they continue to play SWToR means that SWToR is providing some value for the price they are charging. People aren't going to SWToR because it's the cheapest, they are going to SWToR in spite of the fact that it's not the cheapest. PR spin will only carry a game so far. It didn't carry Age of Conan as far as SWToR and it certainly didn't carry Warhammer as far as SWToR.
This isn't any better of an argument than the "It's Star Wars" argument. The floor is littered with games using the Star Wars IP. It certainly wasn't enough to help those games. The floor is littered with games and a couple MMORPGs where the PR spin did nothing to save them. If EA's "PR Machine" was as good as you are implying, they never would have gone back on their insistence that Sim City must have an online component. No, try again.
I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.

You are not surprised because you knew full well that I was on about class stories and not heroics/flashpoints. For once the discussion gets to a point where it is amicable amongst us, but you have to come along and stir it all up.
There is a lot of stuff the game can never be, but I am sure this is something they could do, but of course I forget they stopped working on the game so it will never happen.
The game I play with my friends is STO, and the ironic thing is that even if they do not, it is all easily playable solo, as the missions are scalable to level and how many are in group - easy if solo, harder if grouped. That is why STO is more playable than SWTOR.
It's just the IP and its loyal Star Wars fans, it doesn't matter how good or bad they will follow it up or down and all around. SW has the biggest fan club ever at like 30 million or something. So to have 500K SW crack pots willing to pay for it is not shocking one bit.
I guess you must have missed SWG, a Star Wars game that never came anywhere close to having 500k subs. It's not just that it's Star Wars. It may be as simple as "Star Wars + BioWare" but the BioWare is at least as important as the Star Wars.
THIS x10.
SWG was shitcanned for a reason. You don't do a complete makeover on a game twice if it's doing well. The bottom line is the CU and the NGE happened because the game was losing players hand over fist. Lucas never would have given the rights over to Bioware/EA if SWG was anything resembling a success.
I don't know what to tell you. You complain for example you can't repeat missions...someone comes along and educated you that you can repeat a lot of missions you then of course have an excuse as to why that's not good enough for you. Like many have said this game will NEVER be for YOU. You will continue to find things to complain about even when other posters provide you with th knowledge that your issues really is not a game issue but an issue with you.
To be fair, it really would be nice if there was some kind of replay/rewind function on the class stories, so that you could play through a mission you particularly enjoyed again without having to start a new character to do so. If, for instance, someone's favorite part of a given class story was it's Chapter 3, the necessary time investment to play that content again is a little daunting.
Maybe make it so that after we have finished a given class story, we can play through a level 50(or 55) version of the whole class story again.
Peace is a lie, there is only passion. Through passion, I gain strength. Through strength, I gain power. Through power, I gain victory. Through victory, my chains are broken. The Force shall free me.

I do apologize for not being a mind reader and knowing that out of all the different mission types there are in this game, you were reffering to class missions. Please do enjoy STO. I hope it makes you as happy as TOR has made me since its launch
For me SW:TOR did a lot of things right....it just did more things wrong that I couldn't live with after a few months. But what it did right for me was
1.Class Stories these were fun to play through and at times challenging.
2.Animations. The animations looked great and had weight to them.It didn't feel like you were fighting air like TSW amongst others,The animations also flowed together which is just as important as individual animations again TSW is a culprit at doing this wrong IMO.
3.Warfronts.These were fun if way too few particularly huttball if you weren't constantly gettign it.
The fact that its all voice acted and that every quest has cut scenes is a very good thing. Its not perfect, but its better than anything else on the market.
Then you have the Star Wars Universe, a lot of people only play for that...
Also, if you have 1 friend that is a subscriber you can just do unlimited Warzones, as if a subscriber queues the group, every player in the group will get in, bypassing their 4-5 games a week limit for F2P players.
This is most likely the best leveling experience you can get in any MMO....
The only reason people quit at launch was that their engine sucked and there were a lot of game breaking bugs they kept under the rug, for example there was one that prevented people from entering the same instance as the group he was in, who had the bug had to wait a few weeks until they fixed it or follow some shady work around involving creating and deleting a character and so on....
Also, with Star Fighter, a lot of people came back, so they should do better next year... all that remains to be seen is if people stay or if its just another 3-4 month thing like at launch.
One day the devs will actually listen to our comments, and make SWTOR more attractive so that a lot more people will want to play it. That is my intention. You do not need to be a mind reader, just need to know the game.
If you have played the game and enjoyed it siince launch like you say then you know that class stories can not be repeated, and that is what I was on about, but your main intent here is not to help but go out of your way to make me wrong, so all you do is mention heroics and flashpoints and not class stories / side quests which I clearly was going on about.
In your aggressive attitude towards me, and to try and make me wrong, you have now made it clear to everyone else that the game will unlikely be getting any better.
What kept me going in SWG was the thought that SWG was going to get better, and I ignored people who were against the game saying it will not get better / updated / what I want, but never did fans of the game post to anyone that the game will never be better / what they wanted, if they did then I may have lost interest in playing SWG.
Just out of curiosity when has any story content been repeatable in any Bioware game? Heck in most RPGs it's not I can't think of any off hand so I really don't know what you are complaining about niceguy.
Don't remember being able to repeat storyline content in any other theme park game either so not really sure what the issue is....
Whatever they are doing right it is certainly not support. E-mail support is useless. To get access to my account after a long break I would have to call and take it up with American phone support. lol f--- that.

"What did STO do right?" is a different thread. It might not be a bad idea for a thread either, but that would be someplace else.
I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.
I did not want to start a thread and decided to ask this here since we are discussing SWTOR doing things right. What if any do you think are the chances of EA/Bioware introducing two new classes for both Republic and Empire with class story up to 50 and everything. Are the chances really slim am thinking of starting another character with a Cathar race and was really hoping someone caught wind of some rumour they might share or some such thing. Sorry Lizard don't get mad at me it does obliquely suggest doing things right by introducing reasons to come back to play

In other MMOs there are either many more quests to do, or there are ways to grab extra missions. After you have done one char in Imperial and one in Republic, then you are repeatring 90% of the content. In LOTRO you get 100% different set of missions for each race, and that is 4, SWTOR only has 2. WOW is the same as LOTRO with even more varirty.
City of Heroes gave you newspapers and tips with random missions, and later they allowed you to repeat older quests. SWG had many mission terminals on top of the main story quests. STO allows you to repeat all missions, and also has extra missions in the Foundry, which are missions created by the players, and random missions come from scanning anomolies, making loads of varied ways to level up.
Basically, it just gets tiring / boring levelling up 3+ characters in SWTOR
None of those games are as story driven, leveled a few classes in LOTRO didn't find to much variety, SWG for the longest time had no story and City of Heroes was the same content repeated I know I tired to make an alt got bored redoing everything, sure in TOR you do reapeat stuff but you at guaranteed a few specific fantastic unique missions. The games you listed aren't much different at all. Maybe an extra hub or two.....

Those actually are good suggestions IMO, not what I was expecting given the vehement hate towards the game on these forums at times.

Yeah, that's the arguement I'm used to seeing. =P

"Turn it into a sandbox or your game sucks!"

THIS x10.
SWG was shitcanned for a reason. You don't do a complete makeover on a game twice if it's doing well. The bottom line is the CU and the NGE happened because the game was losing players hand over fist. Lucas never would have given the rights over to Bioware/EA if SWG was anything resembling a success.

Even after deciding I don't like the game, I'm willing to say that running around with a light saber is a lot more fun than it should be.
I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.
4.Sound.It was authentic to the SW universe.

Don't remember being able to repeat storyline content in any other theme park game either so not really sure what the issue is....
