because the game is now everquest with a space skin on it......

--> Thats your personal opinion. They added some stuff from WoW and EQ that work ... in contrast to some "innovative" things in SWG that DID NOT work. They made SWG more mainstream. But its STILL Star Wars ... as much as one wants it ... SWG gives as much as you put into it. If the game gave back little too you, well ...

SWG or SOE gives back? maybe to BHs and BEs since BHs are the ranged CU version of TKMs and they made BE more useful but other than that u dont get anything unless u have a full combat template rangers medics entertainers and most crafting professions all got screwed with the CU
AND they didnt add 'a LITTLE' EQ they changed most of how u fight to EQ style and if u play GW u will see that they made obvious changes to SWG to make it as close to GW as they could get (color icons, zoning on kashyyyk, ect, ect) im not saying its a bad game they have just taken the whole reason i play out of it (ranger, the GCW, most of my friends left)

rough awakening? apperantly u have only played SOE games (lucas arts also releases buggy ass games) because theyre the only ones ive ever seen release such buggy code small bugs dont matter too much but when theyre gamebreaking bugs like not being able to use attacks or force powers (jedi) and most of the player base is now jedi (stupid PUB9) there are some problems
most games i have played hardly have any bugs and when they do have some theyre usually very small and only some ppl even notice them......

    Lets see ...

AO ... buggy as hell in the first years, makes SWG look like first class coding

EVE ... good game, CCP much better than SOE , but duping errors can be VERY serious if there is only one server for all players, and imbalances and server offline for days does not endear them to their player

WoW .... just played that. Nice game, but has buggy quests (e.g. searching for the King), enormous lag in trade cities and I pity everyone trying to play a hunter in PvP. Ahhh, did I mention player harvesting for "honor" points, with corpse camping and all ?

So .... I dont see a perfect MMORPG anywhere. I still think one can enjoy them. But they are all projects in the making, even after years. And as you see above, none of the games I played is a SOE game.

What bug-free games did you play ?

    ----------------

The adjustments you mentioned sure did not come by copying GW. Zoning might as well be from KOTOR. Same with quests, although I detect a good mix of EQ and WoW in there. Basically they made SWG more like all the rest of the games out there .... because it WORKS. I have no problems with copied game principles if it WORKS and what has been before did NOT WORK well.

    ----------------

Hmm ... I am not Jedi. Neither am I a Bounty hunter. Not even Bio Engineer. Darn, not even a TKM. I HAVE to be doing something wrong ! Crafter fighter hybrid and pure crafter toon ... with smuggler as combat profession. I must be one of the screwed ones. Strange, no one told me !

Anyway ... whatever game you choose next, I wish you fun in any new project.

Erillion, I've appreciated much of what you've added to the overall SWG discussion for many moons with your many intelligent posts. I direct this only to you, I guess, because most of the rest of the CU supporters ...or more accurately, continuing SWG supporters, do so out of ignorance. You don't. However. I'd like your feedback on my main point, the one that's been central to all my (not so many) posts on the subject of the CU. Namely, Jedi.

Most people dance around the big picture of SWG and the CU. Screw the big picture - enough arguments, good and bad, have been made for and against the CU and the version of SWG that's resulted. Screw those details. I'll stipulate all that crap for now (not permanently, I'd take issue with many of them, ...but let's come to what I think is the indisputable point).

Jedi are broken. Assed out. We've said it over and over again. It's not just a nerf, it's a smash-and-drop. It felt like they'd dropped Jedi from the list of supported features of (helllooo) this Star Wars game. I don't recall catching any posts or threads that can legitimize this problem. People bicker this way and that about what their opinions of the role of Jedi and Force Sensitivity in the game should be. Screw the bickering. It was what it was... now it's gone. As has been said over and over, well-developed Jedi could survive, could continue to level and make progress and could (gasp) even hope to fight off the BHs (although I don't know about that anymore with their new demographics). Most Jedi, the alleged "hordes" of us that had made Padawan in recent months, couldn't do squat.

We just can't play the game anymore, dudes - that's how it is.

SOE should have known this (I bet they did) and prevented, avoided, dealt with it well before releasing the CU live. Bottom line. I would not equivocate and justify them if they released a sudden nerf toasting any other profession that wasn't my own, if it caused any significant number of people to leave in disgust as this one has. Nothing pisses me off more than the many ignoramuses that post everywhere about what their opinion of how many Jedi there should be, how powerful they should  be, what restrictions and what impossibilities there should be imposed on Jedi, etc. etc... screw you guys. I didn't go around saying there shouldn't be so many TKMs, I don't begrudge all you new BHs (except those that griefed me), even though I wish there weren't so many new ones (that's SOE replacing the uber-desirable TKM with the "no longer one uber profession" uber-desirable BH). But I don't tell others how they should be able to play their game. I didn't throw off the balance of PVP, I didn't raze people's faction bases... I just wanted to play PvE solo and develop my Jedi in peace. Oh well, can't be done anymore.

I miss SWG terribly, but I'm just committed to kick the addiction. There's no likelihood of getting satisfaction from SOE on this issue. If they prove me wrong and change my mind, great - I'd love to come back. Let me know if they do, I won't be holding my breath. Enjoy the game, Erillion, and everybody else, ...I used to.

    Hi Tark,

in my personal opinion SOE has chosen to make the game much harder for Jedi, especially padawans and young knights , to reduce the number of Jedi by attrition. There are too many Jedi by far in the game (especially for the chosen time period) and it has often be said that something needs to be done about that. Once again SOE has chosen to apply the hammer.

In my personal experience its also a fact that many of those people that have become highly ranked Jedi Knights are exactly NOT the people that SHOULD be Jedi .... hard core exploiters, L333T talkers, PvP junkies ... with Jedi that have been chain levelled up by guilds for the sole purpose of ruining PvP for all others but them. And its almost impossible to get higher in rank yourself if you dont belong to "them" as they can simply demote you in the Jedi council.

However ... having said that I do know quite a few people playing Jedi and Padawans ... I would say about one third is still having a blast post-CU (and gaining XP, soloing etc.). It seems to me that these people dont really care about being on the terminals ... they join others often.  Another one third is playing their Jedi less and less, describing a lot of broken things ... they seem to be levelling Jedi like they did pre-CU and did does not really work well and its SLOOOOW. And another third of the Jedi I know has left the game ... either quietly or with some very strong words.

I recommend to people to get padawan for the second free character slot, but dont waste your time going up Jedi as I have seen too many good friends suffer SWG burn-out syndrome because of that.

    Have fun

I must say that the downgrade is the worst thing to happen to this game in 2 years.  I have been a complete SWG addict as have the 62 members of my guild. Well in the space of 2 weeks i now have on a good day 10 members left.  An afilliated guild now has 1 left, combined the game game has just lost around 60 od players, now how many other guilds also have that problem. I hink only a complete rollback will save the game before servers start to merge because there are no players.image
