I don't get the purpose of add-ons in ESO now anyways. It's the first game I've played where I actually liked the UI. It's minimalistic, I used to play WoW with shadowed UI, which pretty much took out everything except health, mana, and hotkey bars.

Cause, shockingly enough, not everyone shares the same opinion that you do. I know it might be hard to believe but there are people who like to play MMOs that look like MMOs.
I hope what they do is supply in world indicators of poisons, diseases, etc. For instance, a green aura around your character when they are poisoned. Maybe some glowing wings when they are buffed, etc. Whatever. In world indicators would be better than interface indicators.
I think they are all meant to have them although I think some might be bugged and some are missing at the moment. For example, the Light Armor active skill, Annulment and its morphs put a semi-transparent white cage around you, the DK skill Draconic Armor puts spines on your back, etc.
Even some procs have a visual effect like with the Sorcerer's Crystal Fragment, the morph of Crystal Shard that gives it a % chance to become instant cast and cost half magicka after you use any other magic ability, which puts a purple glow around your hands when it procs.
I also would like to see them all be visual, in-world indicators.
Do that for all buffs/debuffs and add a combat log and I'd be 100% happy.
My main issue with this is that people playing on older systems with low graphics settings will not be able to see any of this. My 5 year old PC really struggles with newer games, so I was forced to play with all gfx on Low or completely turned off. This made the game a complete blurr with very few fx appearing on screen. (Have a new gaming pc delivered tomorrow) People who cannot afford an updated system would be penalized here.
I still feel that nothing more than a simple dev tweak to the ui, adding a few buff/debuff icons is needed. Add ons are not needed at all.
SOE changes name to Daybreak games, cause dey break games.

If spell effects are turned off, wouldn't that turn off enemy spell effects as well? And if this is the case, wouldn't you need something like an enemy cast bar to have any idea that they were doing something?

Not if the caster used a very distinct animation for each spell.
Originally posted by Otakun As someone who tested addons in the PTS, I would like to know what addon that people on here are talking about that apparently gives auto-blocking, aim bot, auto debuff and auto buff bot capabilities.
If you ask those anti addon guys every single addon automatically makes you win every pvp and pve fight there is.
There's no reason to take such comparisons literally, besides an advantage doesn't lock in a win, it simply creates an imbalance the devs reacted to. Most of us are just trying to reinforce the reasoning of why this happened.

I feel I have to accept full responsibility for this change to the addon API.
I finally caved in and thought what the hell so I went and dug up the info on the API released so far, downloaded the foundry add on and wykkyd's framework. Even came up with my own addon name called "WoofWoof" in memory of soulless cats and that dog who lost his master.
7 hours later I woke up and read API nerfed. Trust me I am not paranoid or psychotic, they are after me. They monitor my every move on the net.
Slightly more serious, anything taken out of the API during beta can be added back in with ease post launch.
Anything taken out post launch, well if the gods drink tears they will need buckets to catch them.
I respect the effort of beta testers but having never been one I always wonder if they realise that, like developers, post launch the only way they can be a majority in game is if the game fails.
If that pigeon makes a noise again I am going to shoot it, just need to get a gun, or derive some kind of contraption that flings stuff at high velocity in a specific direction. I don't blame Americans for the passenger pigeon and I don't blame the British for the dodo. If we had guns in this country we would have taken out the pigeons to. As for seagull's they are annoying, like seagal and cantona always playing for the wrong team. I might help them get back on board.

Okay so you understand that, yet why do you not understand the opposite? Why is it so hard to understand why this was done? IF you're going to white knight on an issue like this, shouldn't you white knight for everyone rather than just one small group? Wait...do you belong to that small group? That would certainly explain it.

Thats strange... cuz my PC is older than that & ran the game flawlessly at MAX setting with everything turned on (except some minor things). I was impressed to say the least, but its true. ( PC is about 7 y.o.+)
My spec are:
Q6600 OC @ 3.2GHz
8 gigs of DDR2 ram
nvidia 460 GTX ( the only part I upgraded from when I bought it)
Can I say I call BS on your claims? Maybe not, but I would advise you to look on your side, cuz the problem isn't the game.
I have a feeling you did not read the whole post. No one is blaming the game for anything lag-wise. My current gfx card/system configuration sucks and does not load new areas in any game w out 10 second screen locks. If you don't believe me, not sure why you even care. My whole point was that the lag is on my side; you are creating a non existing argument.
That being said, I would not recommend to anyone to use a 7+ year old PC to participate in 100 v 100 pvp battles. Glad you updated your old GFX card.

Here's the deal. FTC is made by Altrops AKA Andrew. He has a lot of friends and followers on the website he also created. The guy is smart and idolized by a lot of people of Tamriel Foundry. They flipped out because his mod is under attack. That means he is under attack and they run to his defense. Plenty of them have little to no experience testing any game and are only PTS testers due to directly or indirectly associated to him. You start to understand where this venom is coming from. And the misinformation. Like the fact that you can still parse your own damage. Plenty of those so called testers claimed you couldn't test your own abilities until other non Tamriel Foundry members had to come forward and challenge the claims.
Simply put. This is more about entitlement and ego, then it is about a game. Of course you won't see a post like this on the Foundry for obvious reasons, so shedding light on the lack of objectivity becomes problematic.

+1 Altrops has always handled things with class ....when ftc first came under fire I watched how well he handled himself on the podcast ,but as always there is the vocal few that think the world revolves around them
Originally posted by Iselin Originally posted by XiaokiOriginally posted by KyleranAfter all of this, all I can think to say is.... learn to adapt. That's what life's all about, learning to adapt and overcome. Gaming is no different.
Can say the exact same thing to the anti-add on people. You tell the pro-add on people to adapt and overcome but whats your message to the anti-add on people? The status quo is fine?If the anti-add on people dont like others having additional information then just tell them to adapt and overcome. You don't seem to understand the basic difference between a) what comes with the game vs. b) what can be added to the game.
When "b" gives you a significant advantage, especially in PVP, they should be nerfed and those who use them are the ones who need to adapt... not the ones who play the game as released.
It's hilarious to me how the same people who moan and whine about the tiniest of class balance tweaks in game because they give class X" an advantage, are the same ones whining when the 3rd party add-on advantages are removed.
Zenimax has add on support in game so this isnt some kind of outside 3rd party program being run without per mission like damage parsers in some MMOs.
So add on support comes with the game. Like it not, add ons are a part of the game.
Also, not everyone that supports add ons are advocating huge advantages in PvP. Thats merely a Straw Man Argument invented by people like you to demonize add ons.
So, go ahead and lie about the intentions of the other side if it makes you feel superior.
Fully support this change to the API. Many of those addons were giving folks a big advantage and left things open for other shall we say methods to do other shady things. People really enjoyed the game without the addons before and I am sure all will be well.
Besides most of the addons still work just fine - you simply do not have the one addon that gives every piece of information it seems about the other player.
The developers took feedback and decided to stick to their vision.
No offence to you for bringing it up, but frankly, the idea of DEVs having any kind of vision a pile of crap. If they had any kind of vision, they would have included it in the game's default UI instead of including nothing and making add-on makers try to figure out just wtf the intended "vision" is supposed to be.
They decided to save themselves some bucks by farming the UI development to players instead of spending time making a good UI of their own. In a "shocking" turn of events, players created a bunch of stuff that wasn't expected, so now without the time or resources to formulate a vision of their own, the DEVs are stuck with a model that makes just about everyone unhappy.
Oh well. It'll get fixed somewhere down the line. Just the nature of the MMOs. Years from now, people that are still around will be all telling stories like: "hey, remember when on launch we couldn't even tell what killed us? that was lol"
